    The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

    I've not seen this interview with her, it's delightful. She's just mesmerizing, a true screen goddess. So captivatingly beautiful, feminine, charming and natural. BB always wanted to live the retired, bohemian life, surrounded by her animals or tucked away with her next lover. Unlike most other actresses and movie stars, fame and fortune more or less found her, and career ambition wasn't what motivated her. I think she has interesting contradictions in her like Marilyn Monroe, that child-woman quality. Presented as the ditzy blonde and sex kitten, yet sensitive and intelligent underneath. Hard to believe she's almost 90 now, and to think she attempted suicide more than one, survived breast cancer. A strong and resilient woman in the end!

      Animals and Lovers seem to have played a huge role, maybe a guiding force for her. Roger Vadim and BB had a long friendship. Jane Fonda followed in her role with Vadim for a few movies, and it seems that connection you speak of, the 'bohemian' life fits well with Movie directors and producers as well. Gifted with spectacular features and personality, the French have always been critical, Americans idolize her, and Germans are envious. Bardot was not known for her acuity and acting required more than she had in many productions. Her great delightful French personality makes her a seemingly naive target, but French criticisms drove her into exile, the one she imagines after ten years with Sullivan here. She has spent her time with her dogs, especially, but has been very philanthropic to many animal support organizations for nearly one-half century. A gifted and blessed woman, who attempted to love and be loved, but resigned to a hermitic existence, but one with a remarkable personal style. I digress...My Mother Colette looked so much like her, but without the pouty lips, worked as a makeup artist in Hollywood about 15 years later--Sans my Dad. My friends used to remark how 'hot' my French Mother was. I thought so too. She was a brunette, from Meaux, near Paris, and met/married my Dad, an Army GI from Kentucky, who was stationed in Europe during WWII. A liberty ship named "SS Brazil" brought us from Le Havre to New York in 1948. I'm biased but I must say that many "French women are the sparkling jewels" of ' beaucoup les juene filles' and they age very well too!

    She actually kept working for another 12 years, and even added TV specials and albums to her resume...so this may have been a publicity stunt. David Bowie did this, at his peak...and kept working. Her swinging 60's film Two Weeks in September is her stylish best, in my opinion...

    It must surely be the strangest interview in the history of the Show... Virtually nothing that is said in it ends up being true... B.B. ended up making over 27 films, she didn't retire 10 years into her career, once she retired she kept "doing things" like becoming an animal rights activist or a prominent supporter of French ultranationalism. The film that Mr. Sullivan asks her about is "Vie privée" (Private Affair), by Louis Malle, with Marcelo Mastroianni.

    • @pauljet
      @pauljet Před rokem +5

      It's true but at the time BB was fed up with cinema and for a long time she was claiming "Repos du guerrier" (English - "Rest Of A Warrior"), her next film, 27th after "Vie privee" (translation - "Private Life") will be her last film as she wanted to leave cinema for good. She was saying that after "Rest of a warrior" there will be time for "Rest of Brigitte". 😅 She didn't plan on becoming animals rights activist, it just happened. In fact, her first tv campaign against slaughter houses cruelty happened not even a year after this interview here, in 1962.
