WALKS IN DORSET at WEST BAY & BURTON BRADSTOCK (THE JURASSIC COAST) [4k]

- This is another video in my series “ Walks in Dorset” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode, I take a walk in and around West Bay which is located about 1.5 miles South of Bridport on the Jurassic coast.
I park my car at the West Bay Road car park on the East side of the resort and start off with an exploration of West Bay itself. After gentle stroll along the beach under the impressive East Cliff, I commence my 4.5 mile circular route by heading Eastwards up a hill and through the Bridport & West Dorset Golf course.
Passing around a holiday park, I reach the pretty village of Burton Bradstock and take the opportunity of looking around. I continue Eastwards and climb to the top of a hill that has a Bronze Age barrow (and a WW2 Pillbox) on top.
I then start my homeward journey by first visiting Hive Beach & Burton Cliff and then joining the South West Coast Path back to West Bay. The West pier at West Bay makes an ideal final destination - to enjoy some sausage & chips!
The weather was perfect for my walk - a sunny, bright Spring day.

I use a GOPRO HERO 7, 8 or 10 Black Action Camera (sometimes with a Gimbal) & a Rode microphone (either a “Shotgun” or a Rode Wireless Go) together with a Canon Powershot SX530 HS.

Great video Dave in one of my favourite coastal locations. We had some lovely holidays at the caravan park when the kids were young. In recent years we’ve holidayed further along the coast at Branscombe , which is now a favourite of ours.

Cracking video again Mr Logan, sorry it took so long for me to comment, I didn't see you hiding in all that sand. Nor did your mate Dave (and his ice-cream). The harbour/pier looks like a great place for a bit of ultralight lure fishing. I may be too rusty for a gallop on the beach but if get the chance, I'll race ya (no fences, I'm a wimp!) Crikey, that would have worn me out with the uphill walk on a day that certainly looked very hot! A fantastic walk Dave with beautiful views of the coast, especially from the top. Brought back a lot of nostalgia for my days walking SWCP. I stayed at a b&b in Burton Bradstock one year - I think it was nearby the church. Logan had a lovely day with his run on the beach and seaside fare! Beautiful weather too. Thanks for video.

Another great video Dave. I always watch them with an OS map on a second screen. Also, we can always see clearly when you worry about low light.
Thanks Roger. Gopros do struggle a bit with low light .... they have such small image sensors & it seems to affect the image stabilization a bit. It is good to know that viewers can see everything though . It always helps if I can find the light switch (which can often be a challenge)! Cheers. Dave.

What a wonderful day for a walk - and Logan had such fun on the beach, plus his well deserved ice cream! That made me laugh! I think you may have almost got wet feet a couple of times, too! I enjoyed learning the history of the various buildings, and the scenery is very familiar as we often walk our spaniel around the fields at the Hive! Thoroughly enjoyed this one, thank you for sharing!

Dave this is as ever a great video. Love the views on the walk. I remember holidaying in Burton Bradstock as a child but have not visited since. A lovely village for sure. The ice cream was well deserved and Logan certainly enjoyed it. The beach at looked amazing. Not sure I would make the 46k. I think West bay may be a destination this summer. 🤷🏻♂️. Dave, those cliffs at Burton Bradstock bear more than a passing resemblance to Petra or other ancient sites hewn out of the rock.
Yes, they do have that rose red / orange colour when the sun catches them for sure.
I loved this walk, those sea views are just spectacular! The Dorset coast is a wonderful and often overlooked gem, as people are in too much of a rush to get to Devon and Cornwall. I think the TV series Broadchurch may also have been filmed in this area, in addition to the other films and programmes you mentioned. Thanks for another classic Dave.
