There is absolutely no surprise here that people will once again, completely misunderstand what happened to Denji. There are still people who think that Denji is just on the spectrum and just had little struggles.

It's VERY easy to understand a woman's sexual trauma, but a man's is different.

People are saying why Denji isnt learning his lesson. Like dude, the man has a childhood trauma that is still unresolved which is what made him the person he is today. All these things are ingrained into his mind since he was a kid and isnt so easy to just shake off. Its made even worse after he lost both Power and Aki.
Old habits, die hard. As they say.

Tbh I love this chapter and how Fuji's handling Denji's trauma
Before, Denji knew that what he was doing was wrong, but he mostly just said in his head that he'd probably be able to get over it and that he's done with all this
And it's all led up to this chapter where he finally broke down because he hates himself so much for not being able to change much. Although I'd say that the very fact he broke down this hard means that he recognises it, which is indeed development imo ( Addiction in general is indeed an ugly thing )
I also love how Denji's speech about wanting girlfriends here is a big parallel to the time he did it in Part 1. Back then it was about him realising that he was allowed to live more selfishly and do his own thing, whereas now he hates himself because he has been living selfishly ( to an extent anyway )

Same for the theatre scene with Fumiko where he was thinking about what he should have done, but unfortunately fell back into old habits again
I'm not saying it's bad that he did this, I'm just saying that it's what finally led to him breaking down in this recent chapter about how he wants to change, but can't completely do it

I just let the storyteller tell his story. CSM has never been a typical shonen jump manga, but among even shonen manga, high powered action every week isnt the norm anyway. JJK, 'bachi, and even One Piece are on their high action arcs right now, and CSM is thinking at the same time. Its not a big deal, and I genuinely enjoy it.
I do think that the dive onto Denji's character (and everyone elses) maybe a bit artificial. There is something going on a little more than being blase about the world being terrible.
Denji should, and normally would be thinking about Nayuta and not his...pecker. Asa barely cares about a missing arm...pretty traumatic for most people. It feels like the only strong relationships that exist are between our misfit companions right now, as if an overwhelming force has isolated them from the rest of the world.

Dude, I get if people want action, but part 2 has already been established as more contemplative. There’s a literal focus in the first few chapters on perception of the self clashing with the perception of others.
Responsibility for people that don’t fully understand responsibility that they have. Denji wants to live a life that he’s not allowed to because of responsibilities that have been thrust upon him. Denji isn’t a good guy. He’s a sexual deviant with extreme curiosity. It’s the perspective of people who wish for different things coming together over their similar feelings in concept, but different goals and places they wish to be.
The importance is the characters and how the world effects them, rather than how the they effect the world. Denji is currently lost in the world, even more so than before. Before, even if it was forced together by Makima, he had a pseudo family he subconsciously cared about, he had a job, a purpose: killing the gun devil, even if it was to fulfill a perverse desire.
Even though it was different in some ways from the world he grew up in under the yakuza, it was now a world that he continued to develop in up in under Makima’s rule and watchful eye. He has been under someone’s control all his life. And now he’s more free than he’s ever been, even with people still watching over him, he’s made more choices for himself than he has ever been able to before, but is still held to be responsible, responsible for nayuta, to live as “normal” as a life as he can as he raises her, while still being chainsaw man.
Denji doesn’t know what a “normal” life is, he never has, and he can’t ever know due to all the circumstances his life holds.

Love the thumbnail for this one, good shit.
These last 2 chapters were the most engaging for me? i don't know if that's a hot take or not lol, the whole thing at the devil prison while funny felt boring except from the Pochita/Denji segment, the lack of bombastic art to accompany the action and goofiness of the situation made it kinda whatever to read through as opposed to part 1 and early part 2 where the panels were filled with so much detail you could look at them for a while before turning to the next page, anyway the art discussion about CSM has been talked about to death but i felt it was worth mentioning.
Denji had a breaking point for the eleventh time and i can't help but feel awful for him throughout 166 with him trying to make sense of his need for sex instead of focusing on finding Nayuta. While what Dennis talks about is weird it's not really meant to make you laugh and Fujimoto says as much by having Devin shout "it's not funny!". He thought about it before but it finally broke on him the fact that almost everything wrong in his life has had to with sex and he's stuck in this cage created by Makima that he hasn't been able to escape all this time.
Asa isn't helping either, all the events throughout part 2 made her become jaded and dismiss many awful things in front of her while still being picky about things like Katana smoking in the train and also being moved like a chess piece by Fami and not questioning whether their actions are really being done in good faith, Denji himself calls her out on this. She also doesn't take his words into account and just repeats that she will save him, ignoring both the idea that she doesn't have as much free will as she thinks nor whether what she's doing is really what Damian needs and for those reasons i just don't feel comfortable about her want to save him just yet lol.

    10/10 chapter.
I love how Fujimoto mixes humor and real dark shit. You could remove the words and just Denjis face will break you, adding Fujis comedic touch, its just genuinely insane. I dont understand how he does it.
I fell in love with part 1, but I am drowning in laughs and smiles with part 2. That last couple pages, omg. WHY??!?!?!?!?!?! lmao.
I swear Denjis getting ready for a pull my cord joke and its NOT GOING TO GO WELL.

I believe the "rescue" of Denji, in this arc, is still happening. Getting him out of public safety building was only the first step. And I think Denji's recent actions is humanizing Chainsaw Man for the other characters. They have had this idealistic vision of who he was, and Denji is showing everyone how broken he actually is.

I feel like this is kinda similar to what happened with Shinji in End of Evangelion when he masturbated in front of Asuka. Denji has been through so much turmoil physically, mentally, emotionally, and so on, to the point where he feels he has no to emotionally lean on for support. So as a result to help cope with everything, he goes with his primal instincts in order for him to cope which in this case it's sex/masturbation. He's in so much pain, that they just for a brief moment of pleasure just for the pain to go away. It's a coping mechanism a lot of people go through, especially when they're alone and they are dealing with loss.

Denji is spiraling a lil, and it comes off as childish, which is beautiful. Denji is still a kid who's drowning in problems. He's chainsaw man, but that responsibility of being a hero has cost him a lot fr. Asa came in clutch though, and I love that Sideburns is getting more time to shine

Seeing Denji have a breakdown like this was a tough watch but still a huge step forward for him. It reminds me that Denji is someone that had no parents and missed out on a decade of education and peer socialization. He’s realizing the goal of sex was an awful one.

Personal every time I hear people complain about a chapter/episode being boring, I instantly think they are just your typical shonen action anime viewer who only wants a cool fight scene. I have yet to read a chapter of part 2 i didn't enjoy. It's way different from part 1, and i get how that can throw people off, but it's still CHAINSAW MAN! Just let the man do his thing. Part two has some amazing character writing and mysteries about it. Let it cook!
I guess I'm just disappointed that people are so closed-minded to part 2. I dont think it's reached the heights of part 1, but it has the potential to!
Sorry about the rant. Chainsaw man fan here.

Honestly if you are still reading it and expecting some spectacular frenetic action and gore flying everywhere every chapter, you will be extremely disappointed. Fuji is fully focusing on his strengths since chapter 1 of part 2 that is the world and characters.
Denji's growth was never going to be linear, people underestimate how much the shit he went through in part 1 has affected him. Hell I have seen stupid takes like him killing and eating Makima solved most of his problems and that everything for him should have been smooth sailing in part 2. It doesn't work like that, I am sure Denji will have to take more steps backward, so he can learn more about the issues he has and work on them and I am afraid it is not happening withing next 10 or even 20 chapters, it will get more messy and this is just the start. It is never that easy to take the first step, never!
Regarding this chapter, It is absolutely the most important and one of the best CSM chapters, Denji not only recognizing but also voicing out the problem is very big for his character and I know everyone wants him to find Nayuta, grieve for the pets and wants Fuji to move the plot blah blah blah... but this has to be done right now, Denji needs to face these issues right now, he needs to learn that running from them will just haunt him more and that he can't fix them right away and it is going to be painful but he has to endure it and face them. I just hope there is someone who listens to his problems and stays with him till the end because he definitely cant do this all on his own.
Also hope Fuji takes more breaks and focuses on his health, this chapter was also a step up in terms of drawings, some great Denji expressions(Fuji's expressions are always on point especially the way he drew Haruka's reactions these past few chapters) and framing was beautiful too.

He didn't cry because he couldn't go to the brothel...he cried cause he became more self-aware of his own patheticness, the fact that he can't change. I haven't been enjoying Part 2 much, but this chapter is step in the right direction. This is a unique issue that Fujimoto is tackling here, and no doubt a very personal one. At this point, I think this series has lost a lot of entertainment value, but still has the potential to be valuable in general, especially to people like Denji. It all just depends on where the story goes, and what meaning we can find in it. I'm hoping for some amazing catharsis down the line.

Chainsaw man has always been a love letter To me, and everyone like me. Why is it a love letter? To really understand it you got to look at it from my point of view. My father’s a gambler. he beats me. my mother is missing. at school I don’t really relate to anyone. I don’t understand them. I never really succeeded at anything. Every time something good comes along, it is taken away. And… I’m just so horny all the time. This chapter is so polarizing, because there are two kinds of people who reads it. People just coming off the high of part one, and people like me who was with it from the beginning. New people’ll read this chapter and ask? where’s all the action? Well for me, the action only hits as hard as it does because Denji/Asa is like me. This chapter is great because they’re both me, and they’re doing something they don’t understand, and they’re alone, and it’s weird and funny. And here’s the love letter part. It’s only a love letter, because it doesn’t really care if people, unlike me, hates it. Fuck you if you don’t understand, because this chapter is not for you. It’s for me.😂
