    Simple, straight to the point, easy to convey, and under 10 minutes! Guitar videos like these days are hard to come by! Awesome video!

    John is what I believe guitarists should strive to be. None of his lead parts are overly complex in a way that makes them difficult to listen to, but he always through enough interesting stuff in there to excite the listener. Clearly learning the techniques of Jerry Garcia has evolved his playing. He’s clearly so comfortable on the guitar, to the point that he can fully speak through it without having to think about it. And that’s an ability that every musician wants.

      In what way? Sorry if that’s a dumb question - I’m not a guitar player

      @@matissepascal1238 Have a look at Isaiah Sharkey who plays with John. He has a beautiful style of playing, which combines blues and jazz. (And Gospel and Neo Soul etc...). I feel like you can hear that in John's playing. His time with the Grateful Dead (Dead and Company) seems to have taken him up to the next level too, inspired by Jerry Garcia and his beautiful lead lines.

    Can somebody explain why he uses Bm pentatonic over that Em vamp? I mean I get that by doing that he's basically playing E dorian, but was he thinking about that?

    • @NastySoulGuitarLessons
      @NastySoulGuitarLessons  Před 4 lety +1

      Essentially that’s correct (e dorian) but specifically playing the pentatonic variation singles out some pretty tasty notes. Very common to play the pentatonic up a 5th from the minor key (e->b)

      @VictorTadashiOficial Před 4 lety

      @@NastySoulGuitarLessons Yes I've seen some people talking about playing the penta up a 5th from the key, but I've never really tried it. Guess it's time to! Thanks man

    Lick #6 is definitely wrong, he's doing a bend and a tap then pulls off with a bend release.
