Very interesting! Do you think your transistor test trick would work on other electronics or is that more a quirk of the boards you're working on? I'm thinking like a desktop motherboard.
It might but it depends on the design of the board. The design of these boards switch the pin connection to ground. If shorted, they are always switched to ground.

This is the first time I've seen this trick! Super cool! I now know I have a bad transistor on my board. Now if I can only find someone to replace it.
