Save Your Dying Calatheas | Calathea Issues & Solutions | Tips for healthy Calathea

This video shows how to save Calatheas from dying by this simple method
Calatheas naturally live in South American jungle. They love lots of moisture, and do not like soggy soil. They are shade loving plants. I have a huge collection of Calatheas. And they all started showing symptoms of unhappiness. So I ran some experiments to try and recover them which in turn became successful. This video will provide you the detailed steps of how I fixed it and hopefully if you follow the same steps you will be able to fix it too.

Thank you for yr comments on calathea...they are my favourite plants and I too through experience have adopted many of yr methods. Yes, sea weed solution is very good for them. Also, another idea is to put perlite into the potting mix for good air circulation and for water to pass through quickly. Calathea hate wet feet, but at the same time need lots of moisture in the soil and atmosphere. They grow well in Kerala but not as well in Bangalore where we have very dry spells. But I will report all of them now, and as you suggested put them in many pots. Thank you again!

My experience is also the same. We cannot use self watering pots for plants, especially Calathea, Alocasia and Philodendron plants.

Thank you so much for your nice words 😊. You can only use ANY fertilizer after establishing the plant. While potting you can use compost, neem cake, bone meal, etc. You can use the other fertilizers after 45-60 days.

Hello! Your video was extremely helpful! One of my calatheas has only 1 leaf that is dying, and a new leaf forming on the same stem of the dying leaf. I have tried many things to help the dying leaf recover, and nurture the new one, but I don't think I can save it. If I cut the dying leaf off, will that hurt the new unopened leaf? Could I combine this plant with another healthy calathea? I would greatly appreciate your advice!

You have to check if there is an issue with its root system. If it has a healthy root system, then you can repot it to a new soil mix. If the root system is not healthy, then it will gradually die 😢

No. Plant need sunlight for growth. Some plants can survive in low light.

Try fertilizing it with organic fertilizers like vermi compost and keep the plants in a group so that they help each other in providing humidity. Water it well till the water comes out through the drainage hole when the top soil is dry with chlorine free water
