It was Arif Mardin who worked with them producing their album.....he ask if anyone could scream in tune for the song "Nights on Broadway" Barry volunteered to go out and try it and that's when he found out that he had the ability to sing falsetto and the rest as they say.....is history. The Bee Gees are also the first group to EVER create a drum loop on "Stayin' Alive" the drums you hear are also the same drums you hear in "Night Fever" their drummer had a family emergency and had to fly back to the UK when they were getting ready to record "Stayin' Alive" so Carl Richardson, Albie Galuten and our boys went into the studio and created the first EVER drum loop. The Bee Gees and their team are legends and icons.

I feel the same. I should have been born in the 60s because I love 70s-90s music. Especially the 70s and 80s. I was born in the 80s. But I appreciate the older music. To quote Bob Seger "today's music ain't got the same soul".

Yes,Barry was 9 and the twins were 6,when they started their journey.
They worked hard, and boy did it pay off.
Barry said they didn't make a lot of money, but we reaped the benefit, because we are blessed with their music.

Ummm…they actually wrote ALL the music for Saturday Night Fever! They did it in 2 days even!! It was a producer that listened to the song Nights on Broadway after it was recorded and the producer said, “it’s too bad one of you can’t scream in tune!” Barry said he would try it (even though he has the lowest voice of the 3 of them)! Barry’s falsetto was then born.

From my earliest memory, 3 to 4 years old, very beginning of the 60's, to my High school Graduation in 1976 and of course beyond to today, this country of ours went through a titanic personnel social upheaval and change. Let me point out that this song and the rest of songs featuring in Saturday Night Fever were written before Robert Stigwood had told them he was producing a movie and he needed a soundtrack, so the brothers weren't thinking of a disco related film when they wrote the songs. All of them were going to be part of a new album but they were included in the soundtrack.

The Bee gees found their Falsettos when recording Nights on Broadway. The Producers asked if they could make a screaming or excited typesound. They started Harmonizing Higher and higher and discovered they had the falsetos voice. They discovered Barry could hold ot the longest. One of the First Songs they recorded after Nights on Broad way was Fanny Be Tender WithMy Love. Please react to that song. Admire how you celebrate very good all time classic and here indeed the biggest smash from the seventies 😎funfact: the matter of 'Stayin' Alive' is about survival in the streets of New York inspired by the Nic Cohn paperback Tribal Rites of the Saturday Night who was the plot for the classic Saturday Night Fever Movie.
It is actually claimed by a survey i guess it was 2017 of all international radio stations around the globe what is the most airplayed song of all time - every 20 seconds - this tunes with Barrys legendary falsetto with Sir Pauls Yesterday in second place by far - all time classic and here indeed the biggest smash from the seventies.
This epic video was filmed on MGM Studios in Culver City in Hollywood California. It’s a part of our shared cultural heritage now - one of those pop miracles that just never gets old, never wears off, never loses its charge. It remains alive. And indeed one of the most covered pop songs in history and fifth best selling tune of all time with 32 million sold singles. 🍾

Thanks for your reaction! The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988. The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born. Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1966. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin'. From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too czcams.com/video/7niXSh7vWRI/video.html Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: czcams.com/video/WH_j90fCIk4/video.html, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out czcams.com/video/vfHUS5Mf00Q/video.html. In the sixties, they had also huge success with songs like 'To Love Somebody', 'Words', 'Massachusetts' or 'I've Gotta Get A Message To You'. In the early seventies, US-Nr. 1's with 'Lonely Days' and 'How Can You Mend A Broken Heart'. Came up with fresh new sounds in every decade, up to 2001 with 'This Is Where I Came In'. Comin' into them, is like falling into a black whole.

That was Arif Mardin, their producer at the time, suggested some "screaming" ad-libs at the end of Nights on Broadway and Barry said he would give it a try, and thus his falsetto was discovered. Yes, Barry is the oldest, Rob and Mo are fraternal twins, and Andy was 12 years younger than Barry and had his own solo career, but did join his brothers sometimes on tour and he was supposed to join them on their One tour, but died of a virus that went to his heart before then and he was only 30 years old. He had a great career before then and his brothers helped write songs for him! Musical genius for sure! Their father was a musician and their mother was a singer!

"Huge" is the right adjective to describe the impact this song had on the listening public. The Saturday Night Fever movie and it's soundtrack album were humungous. This song was played almost endlessly on the radio. Along with "Night Fever" from the same album. A local New Orleans radio station played Stayin' Alive back-to-back one night at the height of the Saturday Night Fever mania.
A first for any local radio station back then. 1977.

This song just a few weeks ago became the most played song on the planet. I believe it was said that it is played on the radio somewhere in the world every 15 seconds. Not bad for a song that's like 45 years old ;)

Stayin' Alive is also the song recommended to use when giving CPR to someone. The frequency of beats on the song matches the rate of heart compressions used for CPR. Barry said when he found this out, he was quite pleased that their song is helping others. Their music is a lifesaver, not only musically for those who need emotional/mental healing, but physically, too!

@@generationgapreacts It was love at first sight for Barry. He went to Miami with Robert Stigwood but he couldn't get Linda out of his mind and told Stigwood he was going back to the UK for her because "she is the one". He knew it right away and 52 years later, they are still together. He said that he believes in love at first sight because it happened to him. What a beautiful love story.

Just FYI, Barry released a new album in 2021 called Greenfields Vol 1. It is an awesome collaboration with him singing with other artists. It has become a Number 1 selling album in a number of other countries but don’t think it has reached No 1 in the US yet. You should give it a listen. He was 75 years old when he did this and has been married to his wife Linda for 52 years now. They have five children! Four boys and one girl… just like he and his brothers. Sir Barry Gibb was and is a musical genius. All three brothers were self taught! All quit school at the age of thirteen! Great history on these boys. Enjoy your adventure into bliss. 🥰

@@generationgapreacts - The documentary is really good. The Bee Gees were sadly never recognized for their incredible talent during their hay day because of their unfortunate attachment to the disco period. They were banned for being too successful! No other group was disrespected like those three brothers. And they were so amazing from the time they were little kids with a dream. All self taught. Couldn’t read or write music but wrote some of the most beautiful lyrics and soundtracks ever heard. I could sing their praises forever and they have a huge following to this day. Barry had a dream to be a pop star at the age of nine. His six year old twin brothers said “we want to do that too.” And so it began… Glad Barry is getting the respect he truly deserves. They worked their butts off and supported their family and hundreds of others throughout their career. May God continue to bless us with Barry Gibbs talent!

It’s a deep rabbit hole but I believe y’all will enjoy it! Subscribed.

Yeah, great track, of course… Saturday Night Fever sold more copies than … well, it eclipsed Carole King’s “ Tapestry album which had held the sales record through most of the 70s. But what is rarely mentioned, I find, is that despite all the great disco music, Saturday Night Fever was a pretty dark movie, tragic in many ways. So kids, if you watch that old film, don’t expect everything to come up rosy, like real life, it didn’t.

Yeah that high sound originated during the the sessions in Miami and it was a producer that tried to get them they wanted them to do a scream a controlled screen type of thing there and Barry and Maurice both were able to do it but Barry became the main thing because Maurice's big thing was on the instruments and riding and and the harmonies he left the singing the main singing things to Robin and Barry who were very Adept at that but you have already noticed a little bit in the song to love somebody how high Maurice's voice can get but if you really want to listen to his high voice check out the song Nights on Broadway when he does the echo singing when he does the repeats and you'll be able to see that it's him singing If you get the right video because it's shocked me I didn't know that he was able to go as high as Barry but he's literally literally got a range as as large as Berry does so just thought I'd put that out there.

If you really want to see a really good song that they did when they were kids they did several but one that sticks in my mind real good is the Bob Dylan song blowing in the wind they did that on live TV too but if you look that song up you'll get to see them heck I think Robin and Maurice can't be much older than about 13 14 years old and that in that video.
