now imagine this: if ToHo could have made THIS Godzilla in 1954, with all the special effects! The original Godzilla was terrifying enough in black and white back in 1954...
and I love Shikishima's character arch: a failed kamikaze pilot returned home in disgrace, everyone dumps everything on him and he feels the extreme weight of his shame, meets Noriko and Akiko and starts taking care of them (while still dealing with the shame), and finally regains his honor and his life in the final confrontation (and shows what a fearless fighter pilot he really was!) and comes home with a real reason to live; Noriko and Akiko (who was soooo adorable, btw!)
I understand the film is called Minus One because post World War II left Japan in ruins. They had to start all over again from ground zero to rebuild.
But before Japan could recover, Godzilla shows up to wreck more havoc. Turning them from zero to Minus One. Even worse than before! -OG

I think the only reason they were able to “outrun” Godzilla during the boat sequence (that highly reminded me of Jaws) was because Godzilla was just playing with them. He was enjoying the chase.
A Kamikaze pilot is supposed to die ramming their fighter plane into American warships.
That's why a surviving Kamikaze pilot means he didn't do his duty
Fun fact: Takashi Yamazaki the director of this film is a big fan of Godzilla, he also featured Godzilla as cameo in "Always: Sunset on Third Street" on 2005 and he is the director of "Godzilla the Ride: Giant Monsters Ultimate Battle" which have same design for Godzilla in this film

I saw this movie in theaters 3 days after it debuted masterpiece Godzilla's footsteps Godzilla's heat ray in the city scene and at the end and at the beginning scared the crap out of me when you see him for the first time this movie was awesome it shook the concrete floor in the theater for some of those scenes above in my comment❤ this movie's a platinum masterpiece of a Godzilla movie this is what we've been wanting for years for Godzilla fans human characters very well written Godzilla's and evil son of a monkey bad word implied❤

I saw this twice in theaters. Tje original colored version and the colorless release. I ugly cried both times. Lol.
I got teary-eyed this time too, but not full tears. I think the human story is way better than typical godzilla movies.

Whenever I hear the original Godzilla theme music, it takes me right back to my childhood and watching these movies as a kid. So nostalgic!
About 7:30. My wife’s mother was in wartime Japan. A child then. Her little brother born during the war died of malnutrition. She says she is permanently short due to lack of food while growing up.
My favorite Godzilla movie next to Godzilla vs Destoroyah I highly recommend reacting to all the Godzilla movies in order most are pretty good

The Monsterverse and this movie portray Godzilla in two different ways
Monsterverse Goji is somewhat like a combination of Heisei goji and somewhat early showa Godzilla where he's willing to save the earth (leas humanity) but still cause some distraction.
This one is more like the 1954 Gojira.
A movie you really should watch to see how this 70 year old franchise started. I say we can have both versions. They're both what makes Godzilla awesome and at times like this movie terrifying and a reflection of mans sins for using nuclear weapons and how we created our biggest monster
4:59 that's one of the inspiration that created Godzilla hence why he has the dorsal plates on his back. Also the reason why he's called Gojira is because it's a combination of the Japanese word for gorilla and whale. And his biggest inspiration is thanks to the 8th wonder of the world himself king Kong. Without King Kong being a huge hit back in 1933 we wouldn't have Godzilla nor three amazing movies with Godzilla and Kong together

Good reaction! Godzilla is unique because he can be anything. Some interpretations he’s a hero while other versions like Minus One treat him like a villain (a tragic one really) Please watch the Monsterverse. It’s the current shared universe of Godzilla & King Kong. So far it has 5 films and a tv show. They are Godzilla (2014), Kong Skull Island, Godzilla King of the Monsters (2019), Godzilla vs Kong, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The tv show is called Monarch Legacy of Monsters. There Godzilla is portrayed differently than Minus One. ^^
I would more so recommend the Showa Godzilla movies. Many of those movies feature Godzilla has a hero, and generally I think they are higher quality in story than what is seen in the Monsterverse. I know many people enjoy that universe, but I think it kinda dumbs down story and takes some of the charm away with the sheer amount of CGI. Also you should definitely watch the Godzilla anime trilogy. The animation kinda sucks, but the story is actually a really intriguing spin on the Godzilla formula.
you might say Godzilla is a revenger or guardian of the Earth, but it won't be a hero, in every version of Godzilla movies (except the cartoon 1978), it has no intention to protect human being !
Well just because it's made in Japan and it's a different version of Godzilla the OG not Americanized one which is fine but to me the OG one always stand first cuz a lot of times they do movies way better than America does most of America ones nowadays are trash
The mark on her neck at the hospital is said to be a Godzilla cell. It's perhaps the reason why she survived the blast.
I've also heard that the tattoo on her neck is a symbol for Mothra. Perhaps Mothra will be featured in the next 🤔 movie? -OG
I wasn't expecting Noriko to have survived. If the impact of hitting the ground after that shockwave from the Atomic Breath didn't kill her, the radiation surely would have. It was a very pleasant surprise that she was still alive, don't get me wrong.

Yeah, don't worry about Godzilla/Gojira, the japanese all say Gojira, but it's easily misheard by many folks from many countries as Godzilla (including us french :p).
It's all the same name/character (although he is different in many movies), and even japanese accept the us term nowadays (even if they keep writing it and saying it their way)
After this, all the others are just disappointments.

In the original Japanese version, Godzilla is a tyrant. Violent and Dangerous. In the piece of shit American versions, godzilla is portrayed as a hero. Theres a reason why Minus One won an Oscar and the bullshit monsterverse in America never could.
I always wondered why he is a hero in the west when he is a symbol of the bomb we dropped on them. Its an insult.
That's a gross oversimplification. There are dozens of Japanese Godzilla movies where he is everything from hero, villian to just a big animal.
