    Denial is the natural tendency to avoid the pain that is caused by thinking & talking about serious problems.

    Denial = fear of REALITY

  • @LearningForPsychotherapists

    Point well made! Facing the truth of things is where it’s all at, isn’t it?
    Just one point of confusion: by categorically labeling the son, albeit a son with a track record of lying at times, aren’t we seeing the son in a very one dimensional manner? As if the son always lies and never tells the truth. Isn’t this akin to splitting - seeing the son one-dimensionally as just “a liar?” If the son’s name was Donald Trump, I retract the question 😜

      1. no one is labelling the son, the son is self labelling.
      2. The son has a pattern of lying. Patterns form habits, habits form character, character forms personality.
      3. The issue here is SPECIFICALLY on drinking not any other issue. The son lies about drinking not smoking or fighting. In that case, he is a liar as pertains to drinking. The therapist solves specific problems not general problems.

      I had met people who are one-dimensional 😝 always lying, even in little things, even when we all can see they're lying, they can't help themselves 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

    Wow I feel still hurt when my ex break his promises when he makes empty promises

  • @IntuitiveCoachTheresa

    Seems this can also apply to addictive processes.

    I feel like I am denial of wanting this girl to like me. I keep ignoring her not liking me and keep making things worse. I can't stop the fantasy though. I don't know how to stop feeling this way emotionally. Do you have a video of how to overcome fantasy and denial emotionally?

      For a start, I suggest you read my book, Co-Creating Change: Effective Dynamic Therapy Techniques. You will find some ideas there.
