  • When an unexpected arrival turns up at the scrapyard, Bert begins to question what he does and who he really is.
Hello, one and all. Well, I'm back exploring deep and dark parts of an engines background. I'd always wanted to write a story about the "Iron Brothers" and now, here it is. This particular episode was delayed as so many new and amazing releases came out during the filming. So I wanted to make sure they were involved in the production of this story.
So many wonderfully, talented people have created a wealth of fantastic Trainz assets, that we must be incredibly grateful for. Without them, these stories wouldn't be able to come to life.
A special thank you must go to SteamySudric for his incredible scrapyard route. It was a privilege to be able to use it for filming and so graciously, kind of him to offer it up for the purposes of this story.
A reminder that you needn't look to far to see such good and kindness within the TTTE community. Thank you again SteamySudric!
I hope you all enjoy this story.

Man, Arry's reaction to a diesel being scrapped was a bit.....alarming. The fact that he's indifferent towards one of his own sent to the scrap yard, while Bert wasn't, makes me think that he has a some what nihilistic view on locomotive life in general. This mindset alone, at least to me, makes Arry more dangerous than Diesel, Bert and to extent Diesel 10.

Despite their dark nature Arry and Bert did become rather comedic after their initial debut in "Stepney Gets Lost"; the one time they would be dubbed grim messengers of doom in an official tv series episode as they literally tried to scrap Stepney with no remorse but were toned down in later episodes. Though there was a very brief reminder of how dark they can be in "Fergus Breaks the rules". Outside their scrapping duties they did love to tease the other engines such as in "Middle Engine". It really is a clever idea for Bert to end up having to address a whole new prospect to his job. Sooner or later there would be no steam engines to scrap and that would only leave obsolete diesels being phased out by more modern ones. These two really do have an impressive array of character development potential. While both Arry and Bert do enjoy their job it's nice to see their personalities can vary from the other. The idea of a dead train is an interesting idea and does actually fill gaps with why there would even be dead steam locomotives on Sodor. Though no attention was drawn to it in "Toad Stands By" Oliver passes several dead steam locomotives at the start of the episode for example.

Something about a twin getting some potential to a story that would show something different from the other one. Like one would be menacing and cold-hearted, whereas the other feels a bit softer on the inside but still the same as the other twin. I adore how you have a Bert a soft spot for when he saw the lifeless diesel after the beginning.
I too can relate a bit to the story like how Bert gets treated like a pariah to the steam engines except Edward when he’s at the docks.
The consists in this looked interesting like when Gordon pulls the red express coaches, reminding me of “Heroes” from Season 3, and those 2 consists like Henry pulling the long line of vans similar to “Something In The Air” and Edward pulling the 4 vans from “Bye George” both episodes from Season 5.
Even if someone can change, there may still be something suspicious people might find in them, but others can do for the good. Arry and Bert may not be my favourite diesel characters, but I think this production did an excellent performance.
