How about a Zen benchmark to show improvements. Like a 1700x, 2700x, 3700x, and a 5800x?
@@GregSalazar That would be awesome! I have a Ryzen 1700 (oc's to 3.8Ghz) on x370 and was looking to upgrade to a 3700/x because I wouldn't have to change motherboards. I could be swayed if the 5700x/5800x on b550 is leaps and bounds better.
@@seoulglo1999 I use 1700x at 3.8 too. With 3600MHz memory, it's very close to the R5 3600 when using RTX 2070 super.
A lot of the x570 motherboards will unofficially actually run a 1000 cpu so can be all done in one motherboard
Currently in line at microcenter with a 5900x. I’m pretty excited to get home and instal it
Paper launch at our Microcenter unfortunately. 10 total 5900 0 total 5950.
dallas microcenter had only 20 5900x :( but was able to get on b&h preorder. hopefullly can get one
I think the sweet spot is the 5600x and 5900x. The 5800x has more competition especially since the i9 10850k, which is hitting $425 lately, is seemingly pretty close in performance. But damn that 5900x is nice
The intel for gaming sure, but you'd be surprised at how much performance zen offers for other things. Like you see intel do well on games right? That is on fresh installs. Zen will smash intel on the average PC. I would argue that its much better than shown here due to being able to handle everything else much better.
yeah i agree that the 5600x will be the way to go. I really don't think going to the 5900x will be worth it at this point till AMD lowers the price if you already have intel's top offerings at the moment
@Valhalla Rising No point. 4K is completely GPU bound with almost no CPU input.
5900x all the way. It's only $100 more for an extra 4C/8Ts -- which be much better in terms of future-proofing for the next 3-5ish years.
Great vid buddy thanks, just found you whilst trying to get back up to speed with PC tech, chose an ironic day to do it huh.

Price is what determines the best option... in my country 5800x was $720 and the next option was the 5950x at $1250... it was a no brainer for me. Happy with my 5800x !!
There's also more than the price of the CPU. There is the price of the motherboard. During this time, equivalent Intel vs AMD motherboards were $60-$80+ higher for Intel.
That is why I chose a Ryzen 3600 + Asus ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming Wi-Fi for my nephew instead of an Intel 10400 + MSI MAG something something.. and even that MSI board didn't have the same quality as Asus, nor did it have the same amount of USB ports or as robust of a chipset. AND... while my nephew is STILL running his awesome little R5 3600 + B550-F Gaming Wifi, he has the option to slap a 5800x3D in there now whenever his CPU begins holding him back.
He currently has a 6600XT in it (mind you, I built this around 2 years ago for his birthday (just before Christmas). And he already has some great RAM... Crucial Ballistix DDR4 3600 C16 2x8GB. He can throw two more in, which will put him in dual rank, slap whatever GPU he wants in there and upgrade to a 5800x3D and be ready to rock for another 5 years (with maybe one more GPU upgrade).
Intel honestly just didn't have anything to match that bang for the buck. Not then and ESPECIALLY not in regard to the future upgrades.
And after seeing his board and how nice it was, when I built my new PC (upgraded from a couple of PC's I had, one was FX-8350, one was Pentium G4560 which was for a mining rig), I went with the same board as him, except it was the revision II model. Only difference was that his is Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 and mine has Wi-Fi 6e and Bluetooth 5.2. So I have the Asus ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming II + Ryzen 9 5900x + 6700XT + 2x16GB DDR4 3600 C16 dual rank. It's the only dual rank kit in that Ripjaws Series V line up. I've went through all of my timings (well, okay, 65% to MAYBE 70% of the options) and fine tuned the timings. She's a BEAST. I get around 65,000 MB/s (65GB/s) Read/Write/Copy speeds in AIDA64. Everyone else gets 55GB/s. I guess it's a combo of the dual rank and timings. Maybe just the dual rank. I dunno.
Know what the issue with these builds are? THEY'RE BORING haha. He hasn't had one single issue with any single part or anything that I bought or built for him. That's great, yes, but also... it's boring if you know what I mean. For the first year, I was always like "How's your computer doing?" and he'd always be like "good."
Aww... no problems at all for me to fix 😞
Great Video Greg!! Not sure what you did different, but this video had a really nice flow to it. Your info, and graphs were great. Keep up the awesome work my man!!! You're the cream of the crop my man!!!

@@Truth12345 the line at my micro center was at least 50 people. Everyone walked out with a CPU :)
edit: Heard the same about friends near other micro centers and big stores. It's always going to be sold out online. It sucks for people that don't live near a micro center or their Best Buy has 0 stock, but a lot of people were actually able to get these CPUs unlike nvidias RTX 3080 Launch.
In the NL it sold out in about 15 sec. The in stock counter also only showed 30 cpu's. One store went straight to per-order, delivered 2021. But I also checked DE web shops. They were also very fast to sold out. 5900x weren't even listed.
There were 10+ of every model at my microcenter and they didn't sell out until 4pm

Whoa! Those Cinebench stats are WAY better than I was anticipating.
I was more excited for the alleged memory compatibility. I heard these new processors could handle higher frequencies without the diminishing returns due to the infinity fabric. I don’t know if that it is true and/or could be tested.

Great review as always :)
There is only 15$ between the 10900k and 5900x here in Denmark
The best possible situation we can hope for is that Intel and AMD keep swapping the "crown" back and force with each new release. That controls pricing and compels both to keep innovating. I play games at 3440x1440 and generally upper range settings on a 3900X/2080Ti, so I'm largely GPU bound. These new CPUs wouldn't be a significant upgrade for me, but I'm happy to see AMD continuing to do well.
Couldnt agree more, we need competition and intel just needs to get it together and come out with something new. Hoping they stick to the next fall time frame for 10nm. Yeah i know its not the GREAT 7nm that AMD has, but if they can get this type of performance out of 14nm, I'm interested to see what they will do with 10nm and how it will compare to AMDs new 5nm process. We should have many great years ahead of us for choosing fantastic cpus
Considering recent developments by Intel with massive amounts of bravado and an OG running things again, it seems Intel will come back on top finally. However I believe their crown will be very short lives, as I see Zen 4 absolutely annihilating Intel with a DDR5/AM5/5nm launch. Meanwhile the newest Intel chips years after will STILL be on DDR4 and 14nm, maybe 7nm. Unless Intel adopts DDR5 and AMD's philosophy, there won't be much crown switching. Maybe Intel can better compete with GPUs. Maybe Nvidia destroys Intel with their ARM x86 CPUs.
Thanks for uploading this. =)
Did you ever come out with a video about overclocking or tuning these chips? ive looked but i cant find it.
That box design do be looking nice
Hey Greg, Can you see how the 5900X & 5950X compare in gaming with 'hyperthreading" enabled vs disabled 1080p, 1440p & 4K? Is there any benefit with the higher core count CPUs to disable hyperthrerading if only gaming, with minimal office/browsing work.
All hail the new king!!! I just secured the last friggin unit from my local store... Demand is massive!
I just went from the 3800x to the 5800x yesterday and noticed a huge change. I mainly play esports titles which are cpu intensive so in valorant I gained 200-250+ fps, Fortnite I gained 300 fps, Rust I gained 20+ fps, minecraft I also saw an increase in performance. I’m not sure why fortnite got a huge boost, but playing a normal game I averaged 600-800 fps lol! I’m selling the 3800x to my friend so everything worked out for me.

You said it, they’re not beating Intel in performance, they’re just catching up
By using a 550 board that amd said isn't exactly ready to use the chips yet, and then gimping the cpu, sure...
You can see every other review shows amd doing way better.
Either there's something wrong with his setup, or all of theirs.

Gonna jump from a 1800x to a 5600. I'm glad I resisted the urge to buy a 3600

I have my 3800x pre sold just waiting for money off him so I can buy my pc so he can have my "old" 3800x (Asus prime pro x370) system
Reason for not waiting was because the 1800x was just to slow for factorio (as 1800x is comparable to a 4th gen i7 cpu for factorio, ONI and KSP)
Hey Greg, thanks for making this video! In case you want suggestions for another video, could you please test which memories and motherboards would be the best to buy for the 5800x and the 5600x? I got one of each, but I'm kind of puzzled which motherboard and RAMs I should buy. People are telling me that I should go for RAMs that are not faster or slower than 3600-3666Mhz with a CL16 latency.

~ Find support
~ Checked memory QVL Vermer (maybe soon)
I'm just wow. Its so weird seeing AMD on the top of gaming benchmarks. Its awesome. If they keep this up whenever I replace my 8700k I could switch platforms.
Actually in purely gaming benchmarks Ryzen is mostly the same as Intel. If you looks closely, all gaming benchmark average might have been in favour of Intel. Granted that you compare same core count chips (5800x vs 10700k).
I was tired of waiting and bought a z490 motherboard online, I was gonna pair it with the 10700k, and rx 6800xt. However, now that these 5000 cpu's are out, and are most likely out of stock, should I keep my i7 10700k along with my motherboard, or return them?
What’s the best motherboard & CPU to go with an RTX Asus TUF 3080?
Would you recommend upgrading the 2700x to the 5800x?
thanks for the coverage Greg! i actually was able to preorder my r9 5900x at like 11pm mts from b&h even though i have a rog Crosshair hero 7 wifi i assumed these would instantly sell out so i jumped on it while i could because my 2700x died on me so im stuck with a athalon 200ge for right now until bios updates roll for x470. My question is do you think the potential 2 month+ delay for x470 board support was really necessary? or do you think it was to give 5000 series buyers on a older am4 platform more of a reason to upgrade boards?
Hey Bryce, the software/BIOS support delay could have been for a number of reasons. Obviously, X570 is gonna be a priority, and it'll trickle down from there. But since they're all motivated to _sell_ motherboards, the delay was also (likely) at least somewhat strategic for X470.
should I upgrade my 3600x to a 5700x ? I am currently thinking about it but dont know if its worth it ?
I'm confused? Why does LTT show 5600X smashing 10900k but yours doesn't? Can someone explain?
should you get a ryzen 7 3700x or a ryzen 5 5800x if you want to stream?
Is a 240 aio good enough for cooling for a 5900x?
What about for streaming?
If you're testing AMD on a B550, shouldn't you use a Z470 for intel tomake that even due to VRMs, thermals, etc? (Either z490 v x570 or B550 v z470?)
completely agree about the gta 5 benchmark...i am glad that somebody did that...Now i know ryzen did came a long way in gaming.
Thanks a lot for the review.
Subbed!
Will a b550 micro atx board work with a ryzen 9 5900x.
I mostly agree with your conclusion! However I do believe a large swath of gamers are already on a Ryzen platform making this upgrade a no brainer. I also believe the 5800X will drop in price, the 5900X as well. The 5600 and 5700 will definitely be the sweet spot and I'm willing to bet that gaming performance will be equal or close to the benchmarks shown today! The 5600 may even perform better with over clocking! Less cores may give it more thermal head room. The reason i believe this is because as we've seen with the 3300X, thermal head room can give a great OC and a great OC on Ryzen can give amazing in game performance! It only has 4 cores 8 threads, but most games don't use much more than 4 threads.
I am actually glad you did the testing on the B550 board. It shows what more budget oriented people would purchase. Great video thanks.
You really think most people buying a 5900x are going b550? That's a bit of a stretch imo.
Linus @Linus Techtips was talking about different youtubers got very different results and maybe the memoryspeed is playing a much bigger role when using the new AMD Cpu:s, which memory frequency did you have @greg?
Nice video, its good that you used an RTX 2080TI, since it will show what a RTX 3070 should deliver with those CPU. But probably the gap between intel and AMD would get bigger with a RTX 3080 / 3090.
Not all Zen 3 cost more than original zen price, for example, Ryzen 7 1800X price was $499, when the Ryzen 7 5800X is $449. Not to mention the performance delta is huge.
I have an asus x570 tuf, 3800x, with 5700 xt. I will try to get a 6800 xt. Should I upgrade the cpu to take advantage of the 6000 series gaming boost??
In my case, I went from 2700x to 5800x not simply for the upgrade but to invest in Smart Access Memory once the 6000 series cards launch. This is going to be a long term build for me and while I’d have to upgrade from a x570 board I think by then the value will be there on a generation per generation level to upgrade much much later in the 5nm line. Potentially towards the end of that gen or beginning of whatever is beyond that.
The 5800x is the perfect gaming CPU, especially during the time you got it. All 8 cores and only one CCD, unlike my 5900x with 2x CCDs. Not that it matters in benchmarks, but theoretically...
However, the 5900x does run WAYYYY cooler than the 5800x. I average around 4.75ghz in games. I use Curve Optimizer, though. I get 5.55-5.6ghz in CPU-z stress test pulling 142 watts, too, and barely touch 65C. Only if the room is hot. However, I do have one of the better coolers over it... a Fuma 2 Rev B. Better than any $120 AIO water cooler.
Hello Greg do you think for a 5950X on R20 a 10800 score on multi and 576 on Single Core is good im wondering if i lack performance? as im rocking a 5950X on a X570 A PRO MSI motherboard
what about the coolers? same as before? will they be enough?
