    This is why people shouldn't take pregnancy/engagement announcement pics on the edges. It's sandstone! They crumble so easily. I grew up here, it's always sad to hear of people falling because they got too close to the edge. I'm happy no one was hurt when this happened.

    With the lake levels dropping I'm surprised people haven't seen more of that. I would put out a warning about being to close to the walls of the lake

      @Christopher Lellis well for one when it's got plenty of rain and the lakes full then there's obviously plenty of rainfall but when rock that's used to being under water comes exposed then dry for so long it loses its integrity. Then when rains come back it can cause mudslides and sides of cliffs fall in.

      @Christopher Lellis Plus these walls are never exposed as much as they are now. So lots of people probably use them for shade since they wasn't tall enough before to provide that so they should let people know some people just no common sense.

    Well you should probably reevaluate how much water really goes through the Colorado River.
    Like its been documented that they believe it was a very wet year when they put the water rights in place.
    So now that it was normal for long time now there a drought and you don't have enough to do anything with.

      before lake mead existed there was no really accurate way of determining the exact flow of the colorado river, there were river gauging stations in place but they were still guessing a lot... once hoover dam was built it became possible to measure the exact flow, but the water rights were established before that was known and even 10 years after the dam was built the experts knew the figures were way off, long before drought became an issue.

    Im glad got to enjoy lake Powell before it started to disintegrate. Learned to wake board there, an Indian set our camp ground on fire and a jet flew over our head in the canyon at 100 miles per hour its was a pretty epic place to vacation.
