- Dave possessed an innate ability to listen, to connect, and to make people feel understood. Throughout his short life, Dave applied his unique interpersonal skills to further his impassioned agenda - making the United States Wrestling Team the best team in the world. Part elementary school teacher part Russian gangster, Dave used his relationships within the international wrestling community to create a free exchange of knowledge between Eastern Europe and U.S. Athletes; something that had never been successfully achieved before, or since. From 1988 to 1996, with Dave Schultz acting as athlete, coach, and all-around spiritual leader, the U.S. Wrestling Team steadily rose through the world ranks until ultimately capturing a first World Title in 1993, and then another at the 1995 World Championships in Atlanta, Georgia. Bruce Burnett, U.S. National Team Coach, and beloved friend reads a letter written by Dave the night after the U.S. won the Championship.
Dave was a true champion in every sense of the word. Dave’s death proved catastrophic to everyone whose life he had touched both on and off the mat. Dave has been posthumously honored in almost every way possible and today we especially honor Dave on his birthday.

RIP Dave Schultz❤❤❤
Awww...at the end, he says, "I love him." So heartwarming.
When he read "i had a blast, Thanks" is when my tears hit the ground... RIP Dave... if you only knew how much my son wants to be like you on the mat!!
Great piece... Bruce Burnett and Dave Schultz = two truly great legends in the sport. RIP DS🙏🏾
Literally crying right now after watching this.
Dave will always be the best.
I never wrestled before but Dave Shultz is awesome
I can only imagine what was it like being friends with Dave. Must've been a dream.
Nice observation, thank you for sharing. I agree.
I'm not crying, you're crying
Jeffrey Houska don’t cap
So inspiring. So tragic. So Dave Schultz.
GOD bless You Dave.
R.I.P DAVE👊🏽🙏🏽👊🏽🌹🙏🏽🌹
Definitely got something in my eye
Wow. Great edit of the video footage to the coach's audio. Powerful. Thanks.
Coach Burnett was the most positive person I have known. He made practice extremely hard but worth it. I could be losing by a bunch and he would be encouraging and tell me I got what it takes to win. I usually did because I did not want to let him down.
In my summation, Dave Schultz was the purest competitor I have ever seen. Regardless of the sport. LOVED to train, practice, drill, coach, teach, mentor, guide, share, learn, etc. Win or lose, loved to compete. The most passionate athlete I've ever seen. Kevin Green, Sam Mills, Chris Spielman, Michael Jordon, Charles Barkley, Jerome Bettis, Frank Gore, Charles Oakley, Kenny Monday, John Smith, Bruce Matthews, Kobe Bryant, John Stockton, Kyle Snyder, Tom Brands, Alan Fried, Pat Smith, Joe Gonzalez, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Tom Brady, Steve Wiznewski, Larry Allen, Corey Dillon, Cortez Kennedy, Erik Williams, Mike Sheets. All great. But, Dave Schultz was the most passionate in it's purest form. And by the way, he's singin you a lullaby if he hits you with that front headlock lol
Kobe Bryant and Dave Schultz died on the same day...Bryant 24 years later, just like his jersey was a 24.
All those great names you mentioned and somehow you neglected to name the greatest competitor of them all and that was Larry Bird who was the ultimate competitor and teammate...I'm sure you just forgot so just wanted to shoot it out there.
Charlie Babbitt33. OMG! Im embarassed that I forgot to mention the great from French Lick. Outstanding. Great point. Thank you for contributing.
Whoever dislikes, has no idea what D. S. is to wrestling! Do some homework and you’ll realize what a great man he was not only to wrestling but his family as well....
At least once a month, specially when i am a bit down, i watch this video to feel better. Such a energetic relation those two had.
Tears of joy
Thank yoy
Who is cutting onions in here

The sly fox was on another level when it came to wrestling.
Dave Dave Dave Dave ! hallelujah Schultz -^ Ω we love you & miss u
Thank you for this wonderful video description
Just make'em better brother.........
Ok, ok....I am crying 😭
Damn, I like and respect that he used a similar double wrist lock reversal as his brother Mark got DQ'd for on the 84' Olympics. But, he just didn't crank it the same way that Mark did.
Like almost everything on the mat, Dave used it tastefully.
As a senior in high school faves pinned chuck yagla
Dave was the man
🥺🥺🥺🥺
