  • A New York City firefighter broke a car's windows to access a blocked fire hydrant. He then threaded the firehose through the car and attached it to the hydrant. They were fighting a major four-alarm blaze in the Bronx that destroyed multiple businesses. As for the owner of the car, reports say he's racked up 33 fire hydrant violations in the last two years. The violations totaled more than $9,000.

No, the firefighter did NOT _HAVE_ to do that, he CHOSE to do it out of spite. Moreover, he WASTED TIME breaking the windows instead of just going straight to the fire-hydrant. 😒 The law says 15' as a BLANKET rule, it's not a scientific necessity; clearly in this case, they COULD have used the hydrant without 15' of space. 🙄 People think the driver having 33 violations means he's a serial scumbag, but they're ignoring more statistically-likely scenarios: there's a fire-hydrant in front of the guy's house or work or something and they keep ticketing him as a dick-move despite there being enough room to connect a hose (also, people assume the violations mean firefighters had to actually _connect_ a hose 33 times, but that's not true, cops just saw his car was near a fire-hydrant and gave a ticket; this might have been the only time a fire-truck was actually around). 🤦
