Scarra is definitely an Italian surname. Fictional character backstory: Scarra's great-grandfather was an Italian-American mobster in Los Angeles who fought in WW2 in the Pacific, became part of the Occupying Forces, stayed in Japan after being discharged, then fell in love with a Zainichi Chinese woman, settling in Tokyo(Shinjuku District). Since the mafia Scarra's great-grandfather was a member of didn't support the war, those Capos who didn't like him took advantage of it, and have the Don send one of them to asssasinate him. Luckily though, Scarra's great-grandmother was warned beforehand by her husband, so she assumed a new identity and went into hiding while pregnant. She died giving birth to Scarra's grandfather. As a kid growing up in an orphanage, Scarra's grandfather was a delinquent, but had a sense of justice, often having run-ins with Yakuza wannabes, eventually started a gang that protected those who are bullied after graduating high school. The gang gathered fame among the Yakuza since they're a constant thorn on their backsides. So every mob in Tokyo tried to either bribe, intimidate, or start an all-out war with the gang. The gang prevailed may times but with great cost, and they're forced to move to Kyushu. The gang was forced to ally with the local mob there since they needed protection, and over time the gang took them over, changing the mob into an honorable force. The Tokyo Yakuza didn't like this, since the previous regime of the Kyushu mob were allied to them, albeit uneasily, so they started to conquer the Kyushu Yakuza. They succeeded, but failed to find and kill Scarra's grandfather(again). Hunted and the only one left in his original gang, Scarra's grandfather vowed vengeance. One by one, the Yakuza bosses fell, their assassin aided by a mysterious woman. This woman was revealed to be Scarra's grandfather's bestfriend from the orphanage and was forcibly adopted by the last Yakuza boss killed, meant to be the heiress, but the woman resented it, since she was Zainichi Chinese as well. After taking down both Tokyo and Kyushu Yakuza, they found out that the adopted father of the Yakuza heiress was the one working with Scarra's great-grandfather's mafia to kill him, so they migrated to America, acquiring a safehouse in Los Angeles and assuming fake identities to infiltrate the mobs. Scarra's grandfather and the Heiress take down the mob together. When it was all over, Scarra's grandfather finally took his father's last name and married the Heiress. After some years Scarra's father was born. Scarra's father lived a clean life, eventually raised a family, not knowing his family's violent past. A past that eventually caught up with the family. Scarra's father was a political activist, aiming to end the influence of the mafia. That greatly irritated the Don of the Italian mafia, who was the Capo that killed Scarra's great-grandfather back then. The Don sent his son, the mob's best mafia, to dispose of Scarra's father. The Don's son succeeded, while also killing Scarra's mother as well. Scarra, along with his younger brother flees to his grandfather, who revealed the secret of the family only to him. Scarra swore to protect his remaining family. So he trained under his grandfather, always vigilant. Once his training was complete, he had to make a hard choice. Will he avenge the deaths of his family alone and in stealth to keep his brother's innocence? Or will he confront the past, recruit forgotten allies, and make the biggest mob alliance on both sides of the ocean, only to destroy it from the inside? Find out in Scarra 2: Don of the Pacific.
