Probably the best tent review I’ve ever seen. Thanks for taking the time to do the review.
I really appreciate it man. It's a great tent. I have the 2 man and 3 man tent now.
Bought the tent, then found your video. What a great demo and made me even happier for the selection I made. You added to my moto-camping confidence.
I purchased my Northface Stormbreak 2 yesterday and did some living room assembly today with the aid of your video. I did enjoy watching your assembly demonstration; thank you very much. There is a learning curve, particularly with the disassembly and return to the original packing bag. I would like to see a slow, step-by-step disassembly of the tent with a few pointers as to why a particular ordering of steps is important. For example, I learned that if the fly zippers are not closed prior to disassembly, then when attempting to zip them afterwards they tend to catch on the underside fabric.
The zippers always catch unfortunately. The key is to push out from the inside to unzip. If it gets stuck use your other hand to pull the flap tight downwards then unzip. You get used to it. It's not hard to get it back in the bag. Add the poles after it's packed. You can also use a collapsing bag like I do for my sleeping bag and tent.
Thank you so much for this video!! We just bought this tent and had no idea how to set it up. We camp tomorrow for the first time in about 35 years and it's going to rain, so all of the fly configurations you showed will come in handy. We really appreciate it!
Thanks for the vid. I will be buying this tent as well. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the video. Been on the fence for a while but you definitely made up my mind.
I have the Stormbreak 3, and your set up tips were better than any videos I have seen. Great job.
I just picked up a stormbreak 3 the other day and I gotta say I really appreciate your in-depth tips and everything, well done video and great channel!
Thanks Garrett, the only thing left is to get out and use it. It's the only tent I feel safe enough to use anymore.
Great review!! Exactly what I was looking for.
The best how to video for Stormbreak! Thank you!
Got this tent about year ago, always revisit you for refresher on deploying it.
Tks Mate.
Thank you for your video. I am about to buy this tent and i needed a person who can talk about it clearly.
Thanks again!
Anytime man, my only gripe is the zipper of the rain cover. Just hold it tight then zip and it's fine
Great video I just purchased this tent and had no idea you could have so many configurations. Thanks for the demonstrations!
Great video! It answered a few questions I had about setting up this tent. Thank you! 👍
Thanks for the video, really gives a good overview. I have North Face Talus that i got some time around 1996 and have used the heck out of, still in great shape but the zippers are finally giving up the ghost, though it's still a functional small tent. Just ordered a Storm Break 3 to have a little more room (and since I don't do too much back pack camping any more) and your video is super helpful. Cheers.
Really helpful video thanks! Love this tent
I know which tent I'm getting now. I appreciate you doing this review an actual used tent. Most folks put it and put it together and say look it's great but this is the best tent review. Thanks.
Just got back from a 2 day backpacking trip and had no idea how the rain fly could be used, although I attached it. Thanks for all the info- heading out to the back yard now to practice for my next trip!
I’ve watched a LOT of videos on the Storm Break 2 and yours is by far the best review out there. I bought the same tent but in the Agave/Pavement color scheme, otherwise it’s identical. For anyone looking, don’t get the older versions or you’ll miss out on all the features shown here. Make sure the color says either Golden Oak or Agave Pavement and you should be good. The doors are larger and you get 4 pockets instead of 2.
I just bought this tent and this video is amazing, couldn’t imagine a review being better. Also I bought the tent without knowing anything about it and now that I’ve set it up and watched this video I realize this tent is amazing, and an incredible value. I bought mine for like $150 or $160. Probably too heavy for backpacking but if you’re not backpacking this tent is amazing. So if you’re watching this video and haven’t bought the tent yet I highly recommend it.
I'm glad I corps help. I love this tent so much I have 3 of them. 1 of the 2 man and 2 of the 3 man. If the zipper get stuck just glad the loose flap and pull down while you zip it up for the rainfly
I am gonna start backpacking in 2 months now and after a week for searching for tents u sold me on this one. Perfect review !
It's a great tent but a little heavier than the rest. However it's a much stronger tent. Depending on how far your hiking you may want to look into it. Good luck
This has helped me a lot today, thank you so much. I hope you make more videos in the future! ❤
Thanks for the most comprehensive and honest real life tent video I've seen. While it's a bit big and heavy for backpacking, it certainly looks really great for bike packing (or bicycle or car ditto). Lot's of great ways to improve secure tenting in stormy weather. The base goes up pretty high, which is not always the case, and those extra loops on the outside, you can just add on more guy lines and make it even better. Smart features. I think the 4 inside corner hooks can be used for lines to dry wet stuff and/or hang a mesh wall with stuff and/or a gear loft. Really many tents today are pretty small inside and doesn't have room for modern wider mats, but this one does. That is really great.
Use walking poles or as you say your bike to make a comfortable place in the shade while outside cooking etc.
The only question I have is regarding the setup. Can it be done in reverse, so outer fly first in bad weather to avoid inner tent getting all wet?
Also, while I came to think of it, can it be used in the Winter with snow?
I think it fits my old Laverda triple just fine. The clipons on my bike begin to be a bit low after 36 years of biking, but as long as I can swing my leg over it, it's fine. Ride and live!
Thanks a ton for making this good video.
Kind regards from Denmark.
Great review mate you have made my mind up with your honest video Thanks.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I'm thinking of camping solo in death valley, and I needed a in depth on this one, and can't believe I lucked out and bought a good one first try.
Love your video mate, I just bought this tent to go hiking and camping in Australia. It’s a beauty of the other thing.
Fantastic review, well done, well spoken. I have a better appreciation for this tent. Thank you!
Absolutely, I actually just bought another one. I rainfly finally ripped since I've slept in it for over 2 years now. Next one is the stormbreaker 3. Thanks man
I saw a guy in another video in a tornado warning storm with sirens going off and rain and wind pounding. Stayed dry and held up. I immediatelt went out and got one. Thanks for showing me how to put it up. 🙂
Anytime man. Don't forget the loops for the poles on the rainfly. It's doubled up so it's stronger
Great review I’ll buy it great video thanks 😊
I hope north face pay u if not I think they should.
Best and honest review I saw so far. U can definitely see this guy is use this tent for a while...
Fantastic review mate. Great for a change to have someone who knows the product and has used it extensively..
Looking at one over here in the UK.
Mine finally broke after 2 years of everyday use. The rainfly ripped. Im looking to get the 3 man tent next. Just to have the really hard shell helps me sleep better at night from widow makers. Thanks man
Thanks -- Just got one of these pre-pandemic / looking forward to putting it on the bike for some great trips...
Thanks, man! Great video!
great review friend
thank you! I just bought this tent and the instructions are lousy. Your video really helped!
Very helpful video- Thank you! :))
LOL!!! BROTHER, YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME! Dang you rock! This video was epic, exactly what I needed to see, I started to feel bad when I saw you unload this tent to show how it’s done, but holy moly....man I appreciate what you did!!! I’m not even going to shop around, I’m getting this tent!!! Don't care what they try to sell me, this tent is a nonnegotiable... don’t care what color it is... gotta tell you, this past weekend I’m out driving thru the mountains in my SUV, and got caught by one ferocious rail & hail storm, to where I had to drive off the highway and get cover in the trees because the hail sounded like it was going to break my windshield. Sitting there waiting for the hail to quit, I actually thought to myself... “how would a tent withstand this violent weather?!” Bro you just dropped a ten pound log on this tent; golf ball size hail doesn’t make a dent on this tent. No doubt this thing keeps a guy dry, it breathes well when you want a breeze on a stuffy night... zips up tight to keep mosquitos out, great corner pockets to keep your things in...love the idea at times using it as a lean-to connecting to your bike.... And I was amazed how fast you set it up.... that’s another dealio, when you’re tired, or nightfall is coming, or bad weather is in the distance, you just don’t want a tent that you have to wrestle with, to set up... I’m all in brother. You made my day. I’ll keep you posted when I land the tent... by the way, what kind of roll do you like under your sleeping bag, that gives you the comfort you’re looking for, and packs up nice on the bike? Gotta get my riding subscribers hooked up with you and your content brother; you’re the real deal. Sorry so long winded; can u tell I’m psyched about this tent?! Semper Fi brother!
Just bought this tent after having a horrible experience camping in a torrential rain/hail storm. Sounds like it was a great buy!
Like many here, just got this tent as a gift and was looking for a solid explanation of all the straps and ties. You delivered! Great, thorough video. Hope you're well
Thanks man. Enjoy it. I have 3 of then now, after a year you need to recondition the rainfly if you use it alot.
@@ScootsTrades I have. Ive slept in the tent every night for almost 4 years now. It last about 2 years before it tears. I always had back pain in my sleep number bed but once I went outside I never came back in.
@@danshea9754 damn you're still doing it!? That's great, man. I'll break mine in this weekend.
Thank you Dan !
Excelent video my friend!!! it is very good tent, next week i will buy :D thanks for share!!! and sorry for my english, greeting from Argentina!
That's great. The only problem with it is the zipper. It gets caught if you don't unzip it right. You have to pull on the fabric tight before you unzip. Good luck
Thank you for this video. It was really useful but what’s the purpose of the little brown rope ?
el video es simplemente genial, exactamente lo que andaba buscando
Hello. Very helpful video. How do you roll the fly middle door to the top? Our seems to not sit properly. Thanks.
Thanks man
Sold me on it thank you!
Awesome video bud, thanks. I've been researching tents and am now sold on the storm breaker after watching both your reviews on it. This one definitely shows the UV wear on the rain fly but that means it's also held up too, right? I'd say The North Face owes you a new tent for boosting their sales lol. Nice bike btw. Cheers brother.
That would be nice to have a new one but honestly its still like new except the discoloration. I appreciate it man. Enjoy
Really great review, thanks. Am looking to replace my 19 year old North face Roadrunner 2. The only thing wrong with it is that the plastic 'windows' in the fly have disintegrated. Won't ever buy another tent with windows, but love the set up and mesh inners which are so amazing for stargazing and hot weather chill outs in the shade...so want something similar. This looks just the job. Cheers!
Sorry I'm so late, your comment must have passed by me. Windows are great but are a pain long term. Thanks man. It's a great tent
We returned our Roadrunner2 to the North Face because of the perished plastic windows and they gave us a full refund on a 20 yr old tent. Amazing. Used the voucher for a new Storm Break 2 and footprint with a bit left over. Can’t wait to try it out. Hope it lasts as long as our 35 yr old VE24.
Thanks man, i want to buy this tent
@Dan Shea Nice review. What do you think is better for 1 person and 1 dog Stormbreak 2 or Stormbreak 3?
So the SB2 is better for hiking. It's Basically a roomy 1 man tent. The SB3 has alot more room for great. It all comes down to hiking or cat camping.
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!! i’ll be living in my storm breaker for the next 3 months. did you ever experience any leaks or bad uv damage? not sure if i should add a water/uv protectant before i have it set up for so long. thanks again!!!
I always add the water protector on all my tents. The uv damage takes about a year before it does any damage. Make sure you have a good foot print and dig around the perimeter to help remove standing water. I'm still sleeping in my tent every night
@@edeboeuf just the normal tent spray at cabellas or dicks. I don't have a specific one
Can you tell us which country was this tent was made from? Thanx
I already bought it, I would like to use the rain cover entrance as an extended tent , what kind of long stick would you recommend ( I know you are using your bike 😊) . If is an AMAZON option will be better for the fast shipping ( since leaving in 4 days) however REI can work since I have a store near by ( hoping the have it ) - THANKS IN ADVANCE !
Personally, when I hike I use walking poles. They are adjustable and the bottom has a spike. Any stick you find will work just make sure you have tent stakes and cordage.
I'm debating between this and the REI Passage 2. The Passage 2's rainfly attaches with buckles and has ventilation at the top. Does having to pull up the tent's stake to attach the rainfly become bothersome to you? Also what is the hottest temp you've camped in this?
Attaching the rainfly is fine for me. I had a tent with buckles and mud would get inside it and piss me off. The northface is so much stronger but maybe the passage is a bit lighter.
Hottest is 82° at night. You can channel the air in so many ways. The top of the rainfly has a double zipper so it can zip down on all 4 sides
Good points, thank you! I've decided to get this tent. I wish they would advertise the top venting option, it's not mentioned anywhere. They should really sponsor you 😂
@@spamandkimchi i appreciate it. I just love this tent. I've slept in it for about 18 months now.
I plan to use this on a 3rd floor porch in Nag's Head in March. Could be very windy. Can I just attach it to porch railings since I can not pound tent stakes into the ground?
Sure, it has big loops at the stakes. You can easily attach cord to it and tie it off.
Hey I just got a question for you I just bought one same one and the poles didnt come with any bag or anything to keep them in?? Am I missing something or is that just how they come. We plan on taking it back parking and will probably split the polls in the tent body between two
He says, "I have a nice house." Dude, you don't owe anyone an explanation. I too have a nice house, but just prefer the outdoors. Thanks for the video. I bought two of these for my girls. I was curious how the rain fly was set up. ✌
Thanks man, the cross poles from the tent hook into the rainfly also then velcroed down the side with the bottom of the poles attach to it. I think that's one of the reasons it's so strong.
A great tent must buy one . But i dont know if i can in britain i hope so regards
Defeito achei nela, ao lado da porta deveria ter o sinto de regulagem para colocar as estacas. Mais é ao contrario esta na porta o sinto de regulagem
they quit making this tent amazon has some left so i bought a 3 man my one concern is those 2 short poles are sharp so i hope in a wind storm they don't poke a hole in the fly
The short poles should not be sharp. It's should be a reduced rounded pole. I have slept in the 3 man tent for almost a year now every night and it's still holding strong. The zipper has its problems getting stuck but just pull the fabric tight the unzip. It's easy enough.
I know its been a few years that you've posted this video (Which is a great tent review!!). Any updates regarding this tent? does it hold up still?
I have slept in this tent for 4 years now and I had to buy 2 more tents due to the rainfly drying out. They last about 15 months for everyday use
@@danshea9754 not too bad considering everyday use! Probably last year's if using for the odd camping trip
@@dougp4009 absolutely, the sin was beating down on mine and the winter freezer dying it out. Besides, it's only $150
@@danshea9754 it held up in the winter months too? Damn. Well man I hope you make some more vids on reviewing stuff that you find interesting.
Out of all the "CZcamsrs " that usually review stuff I found yours to be rock solid!
Hi! Just want to ask if there’s no leak even on heavy rain. Planning to buy one thank you! 😊
What I do with every tent is get 2 bottles of water proofing tent spray, 1 can for the rainfly then 1 for the bottom including 1foot up on the sides. When you feel the rainfly it's much better than ask the others. No water should come through but I always double up with the spray. The tent us an extremely well made tent using great materials. I've slept is this tent style for 3 years now so almost 1,000 days.never an issue with rain
The situation that a thug may want to harm you, it is the situation that i want to know before buying this tent. Thank you so much.
aaaah im about to buy one but its only in the the neon green color.. not sure about that :D found it for 142USD
Nice video, does stormbreak use a DAC frame?
I just purchased one of these and was disappointed to see that there was no DAC printed on the poles included. Perhaps they did away with the higher quality poles?
How do u use the canopy?? Mine came with a rain fly and a smaller canopy and for the life of me I cannot figure it out!
If you want to set up the canopy by itself there are the support holes under the canopy that you put the 2 small poles in it. Then the cross poles get velcroed into place. It's not easy to do but it can be done.
It doesnt have roof ventilation which means its more likely to have condensation. Is that a problem?
It does have ventilation. A double le zipper that you can zip down to open the top. I've slept in it about a year and never had condensation
@@danshea9754 thanks for replying so fast and for your help! Awesome review👌
Did anyone else find that the rainfly doesn't make it across the support poles to get the ends into the grommets? Looked very easy in this video, if I pulled the fly far enough to reach I'm pretty sure I would ruin it. Anyone else?
I've learned to stake down the fly and the tent separately in high winds but if you loosen the fry strap you will have plenty of room to attach both together
What brand poncho you using I didn't catch it?
Something I got out of battlebox. It's very thick and durable. I'm moving the tent this weekend so I will check and find out for you
Do you think that would be a good tent to take like on the Appalachian Trail backpacking thank you sir
I guess it would depend on how many miles you plan on hiking. If doing 200 miles or less I would definitely bring it. It has just enough room to store your gear and sleep comfortably. If you plan on doing state to state or a couple months you might want to look for ultra lite tent.
I also did a video on "motorcycles camping styles" it might give you a couple more options.
Is it good for backpacking though I know it doesn’t come with tent pole bag so how can you pack pack with this when space is important
I've always attached the poles to the side of my bag. This way you can pack the tent smaller.
@@I_AM_DJ no it doesn't. I use a military poncho as my footprint since I can use it for multiple things
What tarp do you use underneath?
I actually use a military grade poncho. It has alot of different purposes so it works great
Can you fit a full size air mattress in there?
I know this is late - but my mom and I are going roadtripping with this tent and we figured out that a twin size air mattress fits :)
@@SavannahBurris that's good to know. I always wondered but never tried it. Thanks for the info
Would I be able to fit a cot in there ?
@@danshea9754 Thank you for the response ! yeah just wondering , thanks brother!
@@zacwhitehead7957 once I get home tonight I will put my coat in and see. I'm here to help
So I put my cot in the tent. I have 6 inches left at the bottom however, since the tent slopes in you loose 3 inches. The width only gives you a foot or so on the sides. I hope this helps. It can be done but probably not the best tent for it. Maybe a 3 man tent
You mentioned you're not a fan of the color. Me neither. Why are tent colors so horrible these days? All I want is a nice muted green or tan that doesn't stand out when I don't want to be noticed . . . which is always!
I just bought this tent and set it up!! Wow!! I love it!!
Great, it's unbelievable how hard the top is. I feel so much safer in this tent than any other. Enjoy
I have this tent too and it really impressive tent I would say! Thanks for the video mate, cheers from Norway
@@danshea9754 That would be great! :D You should visit Preikestolen that's in my city. The view is amazing here especially if you are touring with your motorcycle, but mostly the weather cold here :D
you’ve changed my camping life by showing all of these rain fly tricks .. had the tent for two years and had no idea!!!!
Thanks man, improvise overcome and adapt. Glad I could help. It saves me alot of space on my bike.
