Underrated car. Australia had a unique supercharged 220S version.

Great video. Glad you’re enjoying the car and it’s gone to a good home, I miss it dearly!
FYI for next winter, I used to spray silicone spray in the door latches and that stopped them freezing.

I drive both a Rover 75 & MG ZT-T. The ZT-T certainly feels different to the 75, more modern in aesthetic & function, it is less old school. Their are many differences in under skin parts as well as the different bodywork but it’s also very familiar. I thought your review was good including the camera angles, choice of music & commentary it had professional feel.

As you would have probably guessed, I completely agree with you on the ZT being less "old school"!
Thanks for your kind words on the camera work too. Keep posted for more like this!

I have both - Rover 75 2.0 KV6 150bhp and MG ZT 190. Driving both cars is like day and night - 75 is gentleman's car. The "sluggishness" is its charm and VERY soft suspension is also very, very comfy - especially here, in Poland, where we have a lot of really bad roads :/ When driving 75, it's classy. You don't want it to be quick. 75 gives you peace and comfort with a very nice sounding engine if you have the KV6 under the bonnet. It's fantastic. ZT on the other hand is a different beast. It's quicker, that's for sure and you feel that when you're driving it. It has a slightly tuned engine, quicker steering rack, couple modifications and that surely feels BUT the problem with it - besides hard suspension which is not comfy at all - is that it's not enough. KV6 was never a sporting engine and even with mods, it's still too slow, especially within the 0-3000rpm. It has no low down and even if you reach the 3000rpm when the TERRIBLE VIS system kicks in, you still got the feeling that you have your foot all the way down to the floor and nothing is happening.I don't know if it's a NA engine issue or just the KV6 isn't good for acceleration but truth is - you always got the feeling that the car is too slow. What's interesting - you don't have that feeling in 75 which is done the way you don't want to push it hard. KV6 with Turbo could have been better solution than the horrible VIS system. One - the system itself gives you a tiny "kick" when you reach 3000 and 4500rpm but it's only tiny and VIS motors and the whole inlet manifold can break at any moment because of oil contamination. That's simply a bad desing and going as cheap as they could those days. The motors can be fixed and even you could still buy the new ones, but inlet manifold is a big problem since it's not "fixable", there are almost no new ones and even if you find it - they cost HUGE money, going form 1000 to 1500GBP (!!!!). Also, the engine is VERY thirsty. It's only 2,5 but you can get the fuel consumption like in V8! Completely inadequate to the engine performance. Other than that, both cars have issues with production quality - water leaks, door handles falling apart, door cards fall off, the winter issues like on the video, door locks can simply stop working, ECU screen has always bad pixels, there are thermostat problems that causes leaks, the clutch is a weak point too, the timing belts change can be really expensive because there are three of them. The conclusion is - MG ZT 190 is an expensive car to run. There's always something to fix, it can get very costly to maintain, it sounds good but the performance is underwhelming and the suspension hard and uncomfortable. Project Nigel sums up this car perfectly in his video - czcams.com/video/zEHzYsgjfEU/video.html. Things can get better if you have a Diesel engine - no VIS motors, no inlet manifold problems etc. but since it's only 116 or 131bhp, it doesn't make sense to have it in MG version with that hard suspension. Better have it in 75. You can remap it to 160bhp which is way better but still it's only 160... The best ZT is 260 with 4,6 V8. Although it's still anot too much with power, you can place the supercharger to it and make it almost 400bhp. Now that sounds like the proper ZT! :) Shame they are rare and - in my case, LHD - EXTREMELY expensive, reaching almost a prices of the new cars. 75 and ZT are interesting cars but I prefer 75 over ZT - drives like it was design to drive. It has it's issues with quality and the KV6 engine can be costly horrible to run it properly but the joy from driving it when everything works is unmatched. ZT on the other hand, has nothing to offer - performance is poor, suspension is hard, it drinks A LOT of petrol (KV6 engine), can be expensive to run just like the 75 and has all the same quality issues. Other than 75 and ZT I have also BMW e46, only one year younger than ZT (2003 vs 2002) and BMW is waaay better produced. Nothing is falling apart, all handles, doors, locks, headliner - everything works. The only problem with it is the "comfort module" that can stop working anytime and it breaks like every year, but other than that - bulletproof. I love both 75 and ZT - there is this "charm" to them, they look FANTASTIC and there's that feeling that I'm driving something different than all those AUDIs, BMWs, TOYOTAs etc. but the truth is - they could have been great cars, unfortunately they are underdeveloped and cheaply made because of the money problems. Shame :(

    LOL great review.😅
Funny thing is most of the Audi's BM's and Mercs of the same era as the ZT are long gone at the pearly gates 😂
    I've owned a 2003 Rover 75 Tourer 50mpg since 2007
My wife got a 2004 MG ZT in the same year. 50mpg
We still use them daily .
Compared to folk paying £500 per month for lease package we have calculated
    500 x12. = £6000 per annum over 17yrs = £102,000 each
    That's £204,000 we've saved ⚠️⚠️
That's not including all the deposits and balloon payments we've saved 😅
Our maintenance bills averaged out have been no more than £500 per year.
We have 4 luxury holidays per year instead of owning new cars.
Happy days we are literally laughing all the way to the bank ! £££££

I had a late base model zt which I discovered had been remapped to about 160bhp after buying it. I loved that car, it had some grunt and handled brilliantly. I'd definitely have another but good ones are creeping up in value no.

It's noteworthy to me that all the Rover 75/MG videos I watch are made by people that are true patriots. Its a shame Rover went under. Personally I think that the 75 and its variations was a last hurrah from a once great car company. I have a 75 sat outside my house as I write and I do get it. They were well made "proper motorcars" mainly for grownups. Im the end I suspect you already get that anyway. One last point, these cars are now classics and if you buy a good one and keep it in good condition I suspect you will never regret it. 13:43
