Dude I just realized that the pipe that came in with my overflow box was upside down. Thank you so much for this video! My house is not extremely loud anymore LOL what a difference thank you again
This was extremely helpful for me. Just replaced canister with a sump/refugium and getting to much noise. Never thought of experimenting with lengths of tubes. Still looking for video on how to adjust box for water flow in.......
I have a 150 gallon with a skimmer bar type overflow made from 1"pvc. It runs the length of my tank with a slit at the top of the pvc. The back of my tank has a veticle T fitting coming out of both bulkheads. The top of the T is capped off only about an inch tall with a hole drilled in the top of the cap. The noise is too much, any insight or tips for a setup such as mine?
Two options. Drill out the holes in the caps larger until the sound decreases or even put a valve instead of a cap so that you can tune the pipes both ways. Alternatively if you have two lines going to your sump you can run a herbie setup - restrict one until it creates a continuous vacuum and have the second only handle a dribble of water which will run down the side of the pipe and make no noise. Google herbie overflow.
Jack P You can try going with 45s instead of 90s so the water flows down the side of the pipe instead of falling down the center of the pipe. Flex tubing might also decrease the noise for the same reason.

Wait so the little tube that comes is upside down? Lmao
Hi and many thanks for the tip, I just used it on my system and it’s much quieter. It was the solution I have been looking for.

Great video!
Did you install a gate valve on the pipe to prevent bubbling on your sump? I have that problem now and I can’t figure out how to fix itn
please help i have the same overflow i need it quite how did you do that
brian silva as you can see in the video I cut pieces of pvc with different lengths and different side hole sizes.
i seen 1 pipe i couldn't make out the second pipe new to this sorry

Any advice for an overflow that is quiet in itself but loud due to the water flowing down the inside of the 1.25 inche pvc pipe to the sump? Thanks
