Hi Rick, I realize this video is a bit older now, but man it’s incredibly informative! As a younger guy, I appreciate this sort of knowledge getting passed down for these old machines. Thank you!!

It might be getting old but compared to these old Jeeps it’s practically brand new. When I first started the T-90 rebuild guide (written version), it was back in 1999. Then the first rebuild guide was shot in 2005. When that one became unavailable I moved on to the CZcams version. I hope it will still be around when I’m long gone. I’m glad you found it useful.

Thanks for all the help. Your suggestions fixed my problems with transmission slipping out of 2nd gear

Thanks Rick. I am back into my transmission after about 1500 miles since my throw-out bearing disintegrated. It was loud from the start, but didn’t think anything of it until the clutch started engage less than evenly. I do have the 2nd gear problem so I am going to investigate while I’m at it. Interestingly I found a single one of the smaller needle rollers just sitting in the bottom of the transmission, so I am going just take everything apart to be safe.

Mr.Stivers, I watch a video of metal shaper and he installs the washer with the flange towards the front bearing, which way does the factory install it?

Rick, thx for the videos, I have my T90 rebuilt now (Novak kit), and tested to see if 2nd gear is all the way against the clutch, and there is still a gap. I'd like to shim it. Do I need to make my own shims or does someone carry some pre-made shims I could buy?

In this T90 the synchro keys passed the 2nd blocking ring destroying it. After replacing bearings and input, clearances are tight, yet the when shifted into gear the keys barely hold into the opposite blocking ring. Looks like they need to be longer? Is that a thing? Thanks for the video, I found a worn shift fork bcz of your information!

My T90 pops out of second on decel. I noticed as much or more play in my 2-3 shift fork (actually on both) that was on yours. What size roll pin did you use for yours? The shift tower fixes are something I can do quick and easy, I'm supposed to take my CJ2 to Arkansas in a few weeks and am tracking down the last few little issues.

Hi Rick, Thanks for this great info. I'm hoping you may have some tips to help me with my situation. I just got a '48 Willys up and running and got it out on the road for some short rides. For the most part all shifting went well for the first few days but then at one point I started having trouble with shifting. Now when the Engine is running I can no longer shift into first or reverse. It just grinds the gears. However, if I stop the engine I can then shift into first or reverse and then fire the engine back up to get going. The shifting continues to be an issues though after doing this. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! -Bill

Hello Rick, I just picked up a 1945 Jeep Willys CJ2A. It won't go into 2nd gear. 1, 3 and Reverse work fine but it will not shift to second.
What do you suggest may be an issue? I would like to have some idea of what to look for before I go opening it up.
    Thanks

The shift lever has a lot of play in it as well. I was going to replace the entire shift tower assembly.

Are the syncronizers made out of brass?

A brass alloy. Probably closer to bronze. They take a lot of abuse.

Hey Rick, thanks for the great videos. I have a question, I just purchased a 65 Scout and it has a T90 transmission and T18 transfer case. What oil do you recommend when it comes to serving it? Thanks
