It's more a tribute to the old 60's and 70's Japanese movies like Godzilla.
Exactly. Which in turn, influenced the Power Rangers.
Tokusatsu is what it’s called. Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, Zone Fighter, Kamen Rider, Super Sentai (Power Rangers in the USA). It’s all cut from the same cloth of suit acting and heavy use of practical effects.
@@Shlankyman545 thank you. I couldn't remember the term even though I grew up on those movies in the 80's.
.....and the video was filmed at the old Godzilla studio. The footage of them is just running around Japan.
You should also checl out them doing
The New Style
To see why their known to let the beat Mmmmmmmmmmdrrop
Definitely need 3 MCs and 1 DJ- its good to understand in that video: 1 take, 1 record… you will understand the greatness from the get.
.....live piped in as their performance at the MTV music awards, 100% Hip hop at it's finest.
Check it out (live on letterman) is epic as well.
@@joshuatmanion8010NO! SLEEP! TILL BROOKLYN!!!
Beastie Boys' Licensed to Ill was the first rap album to top the Billboard 200, reaching No. 1 on March 7, 1987. They have a discography worthy of a deep dive if you're at all into Hip Hop/Rap.
It's a reference to Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot, Ultraman and old Godzilla movies. Also Rock Em Sock Em Robots...all which precede Power Rangers.
True OG’s. Try “Paul Revere” they literally invented that beat. ✌️
Paul Revere is my favorite Beasties song. Those reverse 808s are EVERYTHING.
The Beastie Boys rabbit hole goes deep. Rap legends. Check out "3 MCs and 1 DJ" if you wanna see some legit old school hip hop. Check out "Paul Revere" for one of the sickest beats you ever heard. Check out "Sure Shot", "Shake Your Rump", "Whatcha Want" for some of their greatest hits. Check out "Get It Together" for their legendary collab with Q-Tip.
"Phone is ringing, oh my God" was my ringer when I first learned how to record with my phone in 2000 or so.
“Shake your Rump” may have one of my favorite beats of any Beastie Boys song. It’s hard to not dance to it, it’s so jammy.
I 2nd everything in this comment. Bestie Boys was definitely underrated four what they brought to hip-hop back in the day
Sabotage!!!
@@chadhutton6554 still getting sampled to this day
"Sabotage" live on Letterman. You won't be disappointed.
"I like my sugar with coffee & cream" ❤️🔥
That was your first Beastie Boys video and this is my first JayTDion video
I'll tell you right now your energy is a perfect match for Beastie Boys. SO WATCHA WANT is a great next track. Peace!
If you want to know how OG the Beastie Boys are, they got LL Cool J his break into signing to Def Jam in the 80's.
The Pioneers of Rap/Hip Hop,when you hear the term OG… they talking about these boys
The Boys always brought it.
No filler tracks. Always quality
2:49 lol it DOES look like a megazord. The person dancing in the robot costume is from a famous breakin' crew, I forget their name. I love watching people reacting to Beastie Boys. Beasties love old movies, I think the big monsters & robots were a Godzilla homage. Much love from the midwest
Beastie Boys - No Sleep Till Brooklyn (Official Music Video)
My brother this is a huge rabbit hole From one of the godfathers And inventors of hip hop.... Whatever request somebody gives you It's gonna be rocking From them
So Whatcha Want and Shake Your Rump would be excellent choices for your next reaction.
Beastie Boys - So Watcha Want
I get so funny with the money that you flaunt
GREAT!!! WELCOME ON BOARD!! Can't wait for you to see 3MCs and 1 DJ. ///I so feel its a KEYSTONE to the beasties rabbit hole;). ENJOY
These guys were the shit. Saw em live in st Louis in like 92. Small ass place on the river. Got annihilated in the mosh pit. Was sore for a month.
This is older than power rangers. They just share the same old school Japanese monster movies inspiration as this video.
Beaasties grew up as Gen Xers and were raised upon kid tv shows like Ultra Man, Space Giants and all of the old school 60s/70s Sci Fi Giant Monster movies like Godzilla, Rodan, etc.
1:20 facts. Love or hate hollywood...the 1940's to 1970 ish era definitely created some dank music.
The orchestral theme for "Lawrence of Arabia" is often very underrated. That music is most excellent.
This references Johnny Sokko and his Giant Robot. It was syndicated back in the 70’s. The Beasties grew up on it like a lot of us back then. The villain looks almost identical.
My favorite of theirs is Sabotage.
Their rap cadence can be a bit repetitive, but the music and beat are always unique.
Can't go wrong with Beastie Boys! Paul Revere next!!
they actually play this song in the rotation pretty much every day on the "rock" radio station that gets played at my workplace..
song is FIRE!!!!!!
Beastie Boys is in another league! You need to do "Three MCs and on DJ"
The Beastie Boys alway put me in a good mood.
Beastie GOAT
and their punk owned it too
Beastie boys always spittin bars
The music video references the old Japanese Godzilla movies
3 mcs and 1 dj, check the mic, whatchu want?, and then any live tv performances you can find cuz they were amazing live.
The Beastie Boys also have a handful of instrumental Acid Jazz, like “The In Sound From Way Out” and “TheMix-Up.” I highly recommend giving those a spin. They make for great smoking music and driving music alike.
The mix up is definitely in my top 5 beastie songs.. no order. Maybe even top 3
YES!!!!! Want more old school rap? React to the Beasties’ “PAUL REVERE”, EPMD “So whatcha sayin’”, and my favorite of all time, PUBLIC ENEMY’s “NIGHT OF THE LIVING BASEHEADS” 🔥 Brooklyn and Bronx in the house 🗽🗽🗽
It's a reference too 70s Japanese movies
2:53 - You're absolutely correct, but not because Beastie Boys were referencing THAT, they're referencing the 60s and 70s monster/mech movies that inspired the early 80s Japanese shows that also inspired the Power Rangers.
B Boy representing from the get go! Go Beastie's! Kors Rock! KMH crew!
The style of film is godzilla and ultraman from the 70s.. godzilla movies have been made since the early 70s in Japan.. but only a few American productions within the last 25 years.. power rangers was "originally" a Japanese show.. when they created the English version, they used the Japan footage for action scenes with the American footage scripted scenes. Eventually in the second season they used action footage of some of the rangers from the usa show
Before the age of the internet, we kids, who grew up in that time period (including the Beasties and myself) turned to television. There was no direct programming for kids like there is now. The closest you could get was Saturday morning cartoons (a roughly 3 hour block of Bugs Bunny, Flintstones, Scooby Do, and such), and a handful PBS children's shows (Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, Electric Company, Zoom). So, after Saturday cartoons, Networks knew that kids were still watching, and given the lack of kids content, they just filled in blocks with stuff they thought kids would like. One of those things was old Japanese Godzilla movies. There were a bunch of them, but they all featured actors in big floppy monster suits, cheesy special effects, and cheap miniature cities to be stomped on. Power Rangers, coming out over a decade later, was heavily inspired by these films, and copied the formula of goofy costumes, cheap effects, and cardboard miniatures, a style which, by then, kids had already latched onto and Power Rangers proved to be a comeback for the genre. The Beasties videos (Sabotage" is another, for example) often pay homage to TV of that era. It was our "Internet" and the source of our... "memes", so to speak.
Great reaction. Please react to their song/video "Pass The Mic".
No sleep till brooklyn, sabotage ,(great video), 3mcs and 1 dj. They started out as a punk band. Pretty sure you can find it on here.
And all thier videos are fun, they were biggest when music videos were peaking.
Glad to see someone who can appreciate hiphop and understand the references. Check out pass the mic by the beastie boys next
I guarantee you just got a lot of people who were young in the 90s dancing and rapping along. I wasn't really into rap or hip hop in my teens but everyone could do Beastie Boys and The Bloodhound Gang raps and this was one of the songs that would get people doing the poses and rapping confidently.
Always love to the boys boys! They iterated hip hop ,mixing old school beats with new futuristic style. Put a mark map! The early stuff was raw, but Kutting ! they evolved into master MC's. The mix from the 80s and onwards blended beats alternative and rap, rock, punk , funk! Every single song. It's all about classic funk!
Their era (Gen X), my era, was more of the Godzilla old type Japanese movies. I used to watch them on TV when I was a kid. They would have Godzilla movies on Saturdays.
Power Rangers were definitely the rage at the time. I used to babysit my cousins in '99-2000 when this came out. Power Rangers were a rip-off of the old godzilla movies and the beasties had fun with it on this one. Check out "beastie bouillabaisse", "pass the mic", "3 emcees and one dj", "ch-check it out" live on letterman, "sucka emcees" tribute to run dmc... there's so many. Welcome to the rabbit hole... 😂❤
It's a throw back to movies like Godzilla. Power Rangers are from japan too so the theme is something they did a tribute to as well.
Few fun facts... The Beastie Boys started out as a punk rock band when they were young. They used to do a few rap songs as a fun joke. Rick Ruben and Russel Simmons put them on Def Jam after having success with Run DMC and LL Cool J. Generally they are considered one of the founding groups of hip-hop, with break beats being their thing. (They actually put out a few break beat albums - no lyrics - way back as well). Their first studio album for Def Jam was probably the first albums with gangsta rap elements that got radio play and was considered mainstream. Their albums are a sample catalog and you will find their beats sampled in lots of songs that came after them. Ultimately, they became considered true hip-hoppers and laid many of the foundations for the modern rap scene we have today and took the expansion of rap to new audiences. That started with Run DMC, but they did it to a much bigger level mainly through colleges.
You really should start with their first album. Intergalactic is the refined version of what they do, tight, crisp and less rock influenced. The song Paul Revere is what put them on and anyone in school when it dropped remembers how the school dances would get when it was played. Was very popular and got radio play despite the lyrics...
The old movie vibe music you mentioned is a sample from a scene in the wizard of Oz
If true, that would make cents.
dont forget sabotage from beasty boys it is great to
I would only like to add my two Beastie Boys selections..... "Gratitude" and "Pass the mic"
Watch the Beasty Boys sing Sabotage and they play the instruments live on David Letterman
You’re close. It’s a Godzilla reference which power rangers takes from
The architects of rap
My wedding song! 🖖🏻🤖🤖
So Watcha You Want, Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun, Hold it Hit It Now, Shake Your Rump, Pass the mic.
Now go.
Probably a reference the the old Super Sentai series like Bioman, Changeman, Flashman... All of whom heavily inspired Power Rangers :D
I love they name check Kool Moe Dee.
Their videos are always fun. I guess this is a bit of Power Rangers meets shows like Ultraman or Spectermanm
Send this beat through some 15’s and feel our ERA’s Bass!!
The song was made in 1998 I think maybe 97 it was a play on the power rangers as well as Godzilla
As a white dude that grew up in the 80s and 90s, Beastie Boys was my real introduction to rap or hip hop. I cant compare them to other old school rap, not my place to say, but i can say Beastie Boys made some awesome music. Checkout "Shake Your Rump"
It was your first time because they pioneered hip hop/rap … there was nobody before them. True OGs
It’s a reference to all the Kaiju monster battles
No cursing. Just clean spitting❤️🤘
Wait till you hear Brass Monkey by the Beastie Boys
yeah, this video was more or less a take on the entire 'Kaiju' genre-- ultraman, godzilla, power rangers/sentai, the entire works. Spike Jonez directed a lot of music videos and worked with Jackass before he got into movies. the dude knows his onions.
they helped LL Cool J get his first record deal. The album that Intergalactic comes from (Hello Nasty) is just banger after banger after banger. But then again Beastie Boys were known for banger after banger after banger even back when they were a punk rock trio.
it could be for power rangers, power rangers came out when i was in 8th grade that was 1995 this song came out few years later when i was in High school, im old lol, power ranger still cool RIP Tommy /Jason
It’s from Super Sendai from Japan.
Beastie boys just playing around and always having good times. They keep it fun. And their music always brings a big smile to my face. But don;t get it wrong. Their beats and bars are supreme. 3MCs and 1 DJ, The New Style, and Brass Monkey are good reactions. Keep the good flow going.
I believe that this was before power rangers, it’s like Voltron’s from when I was a kid
If you dug this then "3 MCs & 1 DJ" will blow your mind.
nice
The power rangers were a spin off from the Godzilla movies and yes that cut is nasty I play this song with rump shaker
Whatchu want
YOOOO, if you liked that look up Sabotage, from same artist.
This NOT a reference to Power Rangers. This is a reference to cheezy '50's and '60's big monster movies that were mostly from Japan. Lots of slo Mo, guys in rubber monster suits, that sort of thing.
The late 90s were filled with “trip hop” style bands, NOT old skool at all. Modern School, New School. This is the influx of techno and house music into hip-hop.
Trip hop sort of originated in the UK tho...no?
Moby and Prodigy and Beastie Boys probably incorporated that style...yet it wasnt reeally triphop imo. Massive Attack is kinda the group that defined a large swath of triphop. I think I know this because I tried to learn what glitch-hop was, and specifically the LA style.
A few nerds from and around LA + the ableton DAW basically created glitch-hop. They were Glitchmob. And they are awesome.
Their new music is like dark dub rave lol. And that is also kinda epic af.
Drink the Sea? Not yet. Check out all the people and vertigo first? Idk
Some people hear a think break, an amen break or "ashley's roachclip" or whatever...and they is like "that is oldschool". And they are not incorrect. They are just not most correct.
Paul Revere baby Paul revere best track on license to ill
Everyone is saying Paul Revere, which fucking slaps, but I feel like High Plains Drifter is Paul Revere but with more energy, more chemistry, better storytelling and one hell of a beat. Both are bangers though
In the before times of the long ago...
Radio stations were bribed to play specific music.
In the now times of whatever it is...apparently we have youtube reactors being pirate radio stations lol.
Check out their songs with Nas (Too Many Rappers) and Q-Tip (Get it Together)
You should react to black thought - thought vs everybody or his legendary flex freestyle...
👍
If you havent gone down the Beastie Boys rabbit hole...prepare your jaw to be in the ground...40yr old songs/beats are better than today's:
Try:
Paul Revere (the beat on this one will stun you btw)
Shake Your Rump
Three MCs and One DJ
Sure Shot
Pass the Mic
New Style
Make Some Noise
Rhymin and Stealin
No Sleep Til Brooklyn
Too Many Rappers (ft Nas)
Sabotage
Brass Monkey
And sooooo many more...start and u wont stop..and youll see their bars, beats, and flow holds up even today..do these reactions and watch your views and subs skyrocket from Beastie Boys fans!
more
Paul Rivere is dope
Dude check out sabotage by beastie boys
Dude, if you like beat changes like that, you should really check out Pass the Mic.
I’m not sure if Power Rangers was out at this time… Although I think the Super Sentai shows that the first were based on were out by then… In Japan anyway… I think Japanese Spider-man was out by then at least and that had a mech too… Although I expect this is more likely based on stuff like Godzilla and other similar Japanese shows/movies with giant monsters.
Voltron came b4 Power Rangers...& this is like old Godzilla movies
Yooooo high plains drifter
.
How wb get down
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
Nobody ever realizes that the "beat" is them saying "intergalactic planetary"
Man If you want some new 🔥 popular bands that have new music out you gotta react to The Lemon Twigs - My Golden Years and Vampire Weekend - Ice Cream Piano or Classical. The Lemon Twigs are really inspired by the beatles and bands like that they just have a really fun nice relaxing vibe to them. Vampire Weekend is made up of a bunch of college kids from New York that put sounds from rock, rap, jazz, etc into their music it’s a combined mix of free and a little unhinged to being just what you want to listen to. Both of these bands are just really good give ‘em a try. 😊
One of the best group ever, top selling rap group. This a good intro but far from their best track. “Rhyming and stealing,”((which the official video was filmed during a live concert and is pretty dope) “looking down the barrel of a gun” “sure shot” “gratitude”
Gotta let the beat mmmmmmmmmm drop
Mussorgsky intro!
Marilyn's employee says: this song came out about a decade before the power rangers. Voltron would be more accurate.
If you havent heard it already check out Asshole by denis leary
