    GW keep saying that they're in the business of selling minis, not rules.. and yet they guard the rules like their life depended on it

    Just wanted to say it’s been very cathartic watching you these past 12 months, my daughter was born a month after you started so I’ve almost been living my hobby journey through you and it’s been a great time. I hope to get back in to the hobby one day.

      Thank you so much! I haven't really talked about it on the channel much but our first kid is coming in August so I may have to start living this hobby through someone else too soon!

    I love your channel as a new player, I too am a death guard loyalist, here in San Antonio TX. Your channel is exactly what a new player can relate to. In the same age group as well and started 1 month ago assembling the army and researching. Your vids inspired me to really enjoy my new hobby.

      Thank you so much, I really appreciate it :) I hope you are enjoying the hobby! You've come in at a really cool time as the Pariah Nexus missions have just dropped and everyone is kind of learning the game all over again.

    Been following you since the beginning basically! Love your honesty and Appericate the motivation! I have about 6k of death guard with 0 of it painted. It’s been kinda a thing where I’m alittle anxious to even start. I have it all spray primed, hoping to get started soon lol but we will see!

      Wow, that is a lot of Death Guard haha. I totally understand. Sometimes I look at my pile of shame and it just seems so overwhelming. We'll just have to tackle it little by little!

    Amazing progress over 1 year! I commented on one of your earliest videos that we started 40k at the same time, and we are both in Auckland. I've only managed to finish around 25 models and don't make youtube / play games at the same time! I'm hoping I can build up an army big enough to play some games, as it would be great to play against people like you

      @Rokkis_Gaming_Lounge  Před měsícem +1

      Hey! Yeah I remember! (typically don't get a whole lot of comments so it's easy to remember names haha). That's awesome, 25 is still a lot! Feel free to drop me a line if you ever want a game. Happy to play at any point level :)

      @hshepherd1 to be honest, my advice would be to take it at your own pace and not worry about rushing anything. If you're looking to get into games, aim for a 500 point army first :)

    Playing in a timely manner is a whole other skill set you have to sort of learn. And yeah its not for everyone but it helps. As while I do love chatting and chilling while playing a game, I also have a family and work etc. So I really appreciate when people can get into the game and play efficiently. Not at mach 1 or anything but just being aware of what's happening. Planning ahead. Making moves in a timely manner and not being in the tank for so long. Eventually I want to start playing with a clock just to train myself to not get so much AP (analysis paralysis).
    Sad that you don't enjoy events more, as I find it a great way of meeting new people. But I guess that isn't too much of a thing for you with a robust local scene :) anywho, good luck on your journey!

    • @Rokkis_Gaming_Lounge
      @Rokkis_Gaming_Lounge  Před 2 měsíci

      You're absolutely right! Planning ahead makes a huge difference in the time department. I've played one game at a tournament using a clock (opponent had brought one). The biggest issue I had was that I kept forgetting to push the button haha.
      Another good point! I have been fortunate enough to meet some amazing people at tournaments and had really fun games with them :)

    Hey Rokki,
    Happy Warhammer anniversary?
    In terms of the negatives, I agree with you. I've found I'm using less and less of the Warhammer app and just using 3rd party apps due to codex locking. I have also found that tournament play is too rushed for me and I prefer casual games, where I can actually enjoy the game and the social aspect of it. Because I will never join a tournament, I've entered the world of using 3D printed miniatures and using alternative sculpts. Have you ever considered this?
    Anyways, congrats on one year and here's hoping to many more!

    • @Rokkis_Gaming_Lounge
      @Rokkis_Gaming_Lounge  Před 2 měsíci

      It's happy haha. Thank you!
      To be honest, I haven't really looked into 3D printed minitures yet but have seen a few people at the club using them. I forgot to mention this in the video, but I absolutley love the GW miniatures and think they are so cool. I'll have to take a look into them :)

    Personally i really enjoy tournemants, but i agree that it is now for everyone, i will meet players who only care about winning which is unfortunate but still par of the experience, In 3 games i would expect to meet at least one, i think you need to be really invested in the rules in order to properly enjoy them on a regular basis

  • @BigMan-cp4pi
    @BigMan-cp4pi Před 2 měsíci +1

    i started at the exact same time as you. Exact same conclusion for tournaments. Have done a few and they are just exhausting, and its even worse when you meet " that guy". I'd rather go back to the office on the weekend and work than play vs that.
    But doing about 1 game every 1-2 weeks, some crusade and some 2k is the sweet spot for me

    The one thing I didn't like about 40K is I joined due to Death Guard but, GW supported them in 2017 and Death Guard players practically got nothing after that. I also don't like the fact that a lot of Death Guard models are double price on eBay because GW no longer sell them, despite being new. It feels like Death Guard are so unsupported by GW.

    • @Rokkis_Gaming_Lounge
      @Rokkis_Gaming_Lounge  Před 2 měsíci

      That's a really good point, I didn't realise it had been so long since Death Guard had recieved any love. You are absolutley right, I've had to pay quite a lot to get my hands on some of the older stuff. Hopefully we get some new stuff in the near future!

      A lot of good 3d prints for DG out there
      And they look amazing, check out Den of Imagination if you have a printer, or etsy if you don't
      I've been buying off a guy in IL and lemme tell ya, nothing beats getting a landraider for $40

    Agree with all this. I hate the app with a vengeance merely because of how intentionally terrible they have made the 'free' version. 1 army list! 1! At least get a new list for every codex you buy, or have a digital only cheap codex. I haven't opened my necron book since i bought it as i only need the data sheets on the app.
    Not being able to see all the codex's without spending like $2000 is a stupid gatekeeper block to new players.
    Wh+ is fine for like a month or 2 but after that you are out of content for at least 6 month chunks, not worth the year subscription and making an intentionally bad app slightly better isn't worth the price imho.

    • @Rokkis_Gaming_Lounge
      @Rokkis_Gaming_Lounge  Před 2 měsíci

      If they keep going the way they are, every faction will be locked off on the app in a couple of years haha. I wonder what they will do then.

    • @kenupton4084
      @kenupton4084 Před 2 měsíci

      If you were lucky enough to try the app on its release you could make as many lists as you wanted. If you had them when they updated it, you got to keep them. So I have the free version with 4 lists but only 3 factions lol.
      I don't bother with paying for GW rules. I just use Waha and Battlescribe. I have many, many, printers to choose from at work.

    I got sucked into the hobby with Ork junkyard goofiness. I have nearly the whole Ork line thanks to some stellar Ebay deals. I love playing with friends but this hobby is just too damned expensive overall and the tourney focused philosophy of 10th edition is really becoming a drag for watching one faction get fun and powerful rules followed by garbage that feels downright hateful towards the faction. Seeing previous editions have really fun and silly rules vs the room temp stuff now is painful. And I say this as a newbie from December 2023.
    Modeling minis has been a wonderful calm hobby and the game has been very fun for me but I just cannot justify another army beyond Death Guard. My wife loves the Sisters and even with shop discounts and very limited second hand deals, just getting her a fun list for 2k is rivaling the better part of me getting multiple detachment armies in Orks.
    God forbid you play Admech or Guard.
