:44 is way too real. I'm not anti-social or on any spectrum, but when you're hard of hearing it's near impossible sometimes to follow even basic conversations. With a lot of ambient noises, especially white noises, in the background? I grew up not having a lot of friends and not interacting with people much because of that, and even now I tend to avoid it because for the most part it's just too hard to communicate with people. You guys really understand that, I appreciate that even just being acknowledged, much less the premise of this video. I have to check this app out.

We're really proud to shine a light on these kinds of situations, especially because Ava was started to address the need for Deaf and Hard-of-hearing folks to be included in hearing conversations. It's really touching for us that this resonates with you, Alexander 💙
Hope you're able to try out Ava and see for yourself what inclusion can look like! (If you haven't already, you can download the app here: ava.me/dl)

The idea is great, but it would be smarter if you only use one device with voice recognition. The problem is with the main idea is, people have to download/buy your app and have a smart phone, and 2 people out of ten is a douche and won't download anything for the new guy in the group. I know it's much harder with voice recognition, but it's still possible.

      Hi Tamas,
We understand the problem. Technology has its limitation, and the one you are mentioning is not yet possible to deliver the best user experience in our opinion. But we're working on even better solutions to help you accommodate this situation anyways.
      Stay tuned ;)

Does the app have to be 'trained' to a specific persons voice before it's used? If so, isn't it possible to just save that person's voice profile and load different voice profiles onto just one phone, so only one phone will be needed at any time during conversations.

This will be good for those who aren't deaf/hoh too. I have high functioning autism and auditory processing disorder, and remembering conversations too. Only thing is my reading isn't that great. So I would hope that we can save conversations and also be able to scroll back to read it, etc. Also for those that mumble (like me) and accents, etc. would that mis-translate what they would say too? :)

Since I am hard of hearing and American Sign Language like France in my life, I hadn't been spoken with Phonetics/phonology . I studied about Spoken Language as likeness as any Spanish, France and other to use Phonetic by lip speech and voice to hear. The most of popular is Sign Language to help children or Babies who have been problem with Dyslexia , Loss Hearing age and Aphasia of Speech to help development for reason that They reduced with problem in future. I just honest in the world about which most of Dr. Doctors or Medicals didn't let Children and babies to take Sign Language. If not, online Deaf Culture!

Can someone please make a smartphone-type device dedicated SOLELY to speech recognition software like AVA (and maybe texting), but very simple otherwise? There is a whole group of senior citizens out there who are hard of hearing, but they can't handle the complexities of a smartphone. I'm thinking of something like a Pocket Talker, but just for speech recognition converted to text. Something with an on/off switch, display screen, microphone button, send button, and NOT MUCH MORE!!!

I'm a linguistic student who also has snhl. Phonetics/phonology class was difficult because I couldn't hear certain combinations of sounds. Also in my classes as well as my old job (bookstore at a training center) we interacted with a lot of ESL speakers. Would your app be able to pick up (and understand/interpret) those differences? What about other languages? What about those without smartphones? Would it be affordable to lower-income people? Obviously this is just a starting ground but I am VERY interested to see how this technology develops.

I lost my hearing several weeks ago now am totally deaf. I have tried to get someone from AVA to explain to me ( 86 years) how to get the annual community program on my iphone. If there is anyone that can explain it to me in plain English, I'm really dumb about social messaging but can with a little help figure it out.

Hi, what about other languages? Will be other nonenglish languages supported in time? I'm deaf, and app like this would help me a lot in group convos, where it's hard for me to keep up. And what about talking with someone who doesn't have a mobile phone, can it still listen both speakers? Thanks in forward and greetings, Luka

I am certifying businesses to be hearing friendly in San Diego so far. I have the app downloaded. Am HOH, but can hear fairly well. I looked on CZcams and Emailed. I need step by step instructions on how someones use this app. I will try AVAtonite before I present it to one of my clients. And is it okay to get the word out through a post for HearC.com? It looks great. If your still looking for funds let me know as well as perhaps we can work collaboratively together in changing the world and access for those of us with hearing loss.
