    "The Inquisition did what the Inquisition does best, Escalate!" Their fundamental problem as an organization in a nut shell. Inquisitors always have the tools and authority for escalation, so it is plan A even when they really should try for subtilty or persuasion first. Luckily the galaxy is so awful they normally have a point.

    • @lordfrostwind3151
      @lordfrostwind3151 Před 2 lety +20

      See that's the hard part, a situation like Vraks could easily be a problem of over escalation, but in the lead up it probably would have been better for the Hereticus to escalate sooner and take out the Cardinal before he got dug in, or once he was deploy an Eversor. It's a careful balance especially when you don't fully know how dire the situation is. The Mechanicus may scream at the loss of a productive mining world supporting a forge world, but a delay could mean loss or corruption of the entire forge world.

      The Grey Knights should have just told the Inquisitor to Fuck off and left. They may be a chamber militant of the Ordo Malleus but they are not the Inquisition's Lap Dogs and are still Space Marines and would be well within their rights to do so, especially to an Inquisitor that isn't even apart of the Ordo Malleus.

    The knights errant are, in my opinion, one of the greatest parts of the Horus heresy novels. Especially considering the fact that nearly half the bastards were loyalist marines from traitor legions. Garviel Loken, Nathaniel Garro, fairly certain the Lotalist world eater turned black shield Endryd Haar (also known as the “Riven Hound”) was a member as well. The stories of the loyalist sons of traitor fathers is both heartbreaking and moving in the extreme and reading of how these marines worked and fought to redeem their legions was a true privilege. If nothing else, the Horus heresy series and the siege of terra books do them honor.

    That’s always been something I never got about the plan to banish chaos... Big E wanted to do it by destroying all religion and worship, all “veneration” of deities that certain elements of human nature are attributed to, but we have seen multiple times that the Chaos gods don’t actually need worship or veneration. They can and do feed off acts and emotions that don’t have any kind spiritual or religious elements to them.
    Also I just find it funny that this entire plan seems to imply Big E(or the people writing Warhammer) think only in religions are things worshiped and venerated. Because let’s be honest, there are a lot of things that we don’t categorize as religions that people pour a lot of “emotions” into.

      Yeah I've actually talked about this with my friends alot.

      @@BlueSatoshi Well put, because of the Universal laws of the Warhammer 40k Universe their will always be Chaos gods and not to mention the fact that there are potentially multiple galaxies outside of Terra’s that contain life, the Tyrannids are undeniable proof of that. Meaning their are potentially an infinite number of chaos gods as such it is not possible to destroy chaos only stave it off. The only thing you could theoretically do would be to force the eye of terror back into the imaterium yes with certain weapons you could permanently kill a chaos god, BUT given the strongest chaos gods are simply the representation of base level emotions another god, with enough time, would be created. Even in theory there will never be nor could be a victory over a basic law of the Universe.

      There is a story of the little hooded figures in Blood Angel Rock fortress who scare even greater demons away. They gave a warning that chaos can be fought but never defeated. The necrons can indeed close off the warp with enough time, but can expect a lot of things to go crazy since most are connected to the warp as NateMcBrady mentioned.

    • @lyravain6304
      @lyravain6304 Před 2 lety +25

      Not exactly Akuinator. The Nekrons had almost no presence (if any) in the Warp in the first place, probably less than the average Tau. And the price they paid was... significant; they lost their souls, their individuality, their sanity, their culture, everything. They are no longer "Necrontyr", just robots with an AI that is so buggy it often begs to just be put out of its misery. Now, you are quite possibly referring to the Necron Pylons in Cadia (NEVER FALLS). But even that... wasn't really what you might think it was. For starters; it only stopped the further opening of the Eye of Terror, they didn't reduce it and, most importantly, they were powerless against daemons. If anything, I think they were not technological so much as they housed a small part of C'tan power. Maybe not in the form of a shard (as they were apparently constructed before the C'tan were shattered), but possibly some form of energy source that they channeled and recycled. So, not wholly technological, but more an arcano-tech that was too unique to be replicated (after all; the Imperium has no one that can stop the Warp outside The Emprah and he... can't do much right now).
      And that's, of course, without counting on the possibility of a technology-based Chaos God appearing. Which again assumes that such an aspect doesn't already fall under Tzeentch's portfolio, in which case, such tech will NEVER be discovered.

    You have it almost backwards on the speed to gather the hundreds of thousands of potential future Grey Knights. He wasn’t able to gather them so quickly because he’d been planning something, but because the Emperor had been planning something.
    Think of the Astronomicon and the Webway Project. When (not if) the Webway Project is successful circa 31k - 32k (if not for the Heresy), all of humanity moves into a corner of the Webway and instantly become immune to Chaos, much like Commoragh (but hopefully without idiots and demi-gods opening certain gates…..). What then is the purpose of the Astronomicon? It’s just thrown away then? But why does it have room in the original design for thousands of psykers to power it, as revealed by a Sister of Silence right after the entombment? In those early days they only needed a thousand psykers, but she says there’s room for tens of thousands - why would the Emperor have built it that way? Because the Astronomicon isn’t a lighthouse in the warp, even if it’ll do the job. Instead, it’s a weapon, and one aimed directly at the chaos goes themselves. We see major additional support for this during the creation of the Cicatrix Maledictum when the Emperor held his power back from illuminating the Astronomicon to protect himself should a direct attack come - he withheld that power so he could use the Astronomicon for its primary purpose, much like he uses the Golden Throne itself for its secondary purpose (life support) rather than its primary purpose (command and control of the greatest psychic weapon ever built). Additional minor support for this comes from the Pharos Lighthouse, which was presumably known to the Emperor, acted like a localized Astronomicon, didn’t require either the Emperor, Magnus, or a thousand psykers a day, and could presumably have been copied - by the Emperor, even if not by the Mechanicus (recall that the Emperor personally developed more advanced technology, and needed an ally in Mars for both their production capacity and because they had sufficient defenses that involuntary compliance would be too expensive).
    Knowing that the Astronomicon would be used as a psyker-powered weapon almost as soon as the Webway was ready, and given how close it appears to have been, we should expect that the Emperor put the infrastructure in place to have those psyker-batteries ready as soon as humanity were free. Given how he operated, he probably also assigned that to Malcador - who probably knew the rest of the plan in advance, and definitely did by the time of his death as there’s no way he could have sat on the Golden Throne and not figured out it’s other purpose, especially knowing he had hundreds of thousands of alpha level psykers originally intended for it that he’d just moved over to Titan.
    Also: the Astronomicon being an anti-chaos weapon gives additional weight to keeping the Emperor down, as if he gets just enough relief to regenerate he may be able to instantly turn it onto them. It’s also a potential plot line for breaking the Hive Mind, giving the galaxy its best hope for survival (2nd best being the re-emergence of the Krork, 3rd being the Silent King unflipping the “free will” switch and using all of their super weapons, but both of these resulting in most races still dying or becoming slaves to krork/necron).
