- This video will show you the jamaican technique of making curry chicken. Traditionally, other islands with heavy Indian influence tend to toast or burn their curry first before adding their chicken, but other islands, including Jamaica season the chicken with curry and cook thoroughly! It still tastes great!
I used a 3 curry spice blend for this recipe and these are estimations so watch the video carefully:
During seasoning for approx 5 lbs dark meat chicken:
1.5 tsp of adobo
1.5 tsp maggi chicken seasoning
1.5 tsp onion and garlic powder
2 tbsp of Chief’s curry powder
2 tbsp of Jamaican Choice curry powder
2 tbsp of Betapac curry powder
2 medium sized potatoes cut into 1 inch cubes
1 carrot sliced into coins
1/2 onion chopped
4 garlic cloves chopped
1 tbsp corn oil
1/2 cup water
1 scotch bonnet pepper (optional)
Few sprigs of thyme
Cooking time: 1 hr 15 minutes
This is the only curry chicken recipe I use!! I’ve been following you since 2018 and you’ve taught me so many recipes and have made me a better cook.I always go back to your recipes for reference!
🤣the baby said, "we are finished?". Looks soo good ❤
I like the way you added more curry powder at the end to make the gravy rich! I will do that next time
I made this for dinner just the way you did it but doubled the recipe so I had two pans going and it turned out amazing! My entire family loved it :) Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Wow, brilliant recipe... I’ll be sure to give this a go. Thank you! 😋🙏🏻
I love me some curry chicken🤤
Looks great, can't wait to try this recipe
One my favorite dish!
Looking forward to make this tonight!! Thanks for the recipe
Made this tonight. It came out good and was easy to make.
I make this once a week, well twice because I’m in love with it 😅❤️ my family only allows me to cook this meal
I made this today and it was delicious 😋
Nice, have to make this for tomorrow. 👍👍👍
Interesting as a Guyanese we burn the curry a little 1st n never use carrots … you mentioned using it to thicken but that’s what the potatoes are for … a tip if you open to trying is mashing 2 cut potato pieces into the gravy is how it will thicken
Thank you for real... this was perfect
Absolutely delicious!!!!!!
Think you do the update...where you burn the curry and add epis. Loveeee your channel went to the grocery stand on sutter by the 3 train yesterday and got my spices back to jersey. I appreciate your wisdom n love
It was so yummy 😋 - it’s my second time using your recipe 😍
Glad you enjoyed!
Looks amazing! Trying tomorrow with wingettes
I made this recipe yesterday and I must say it was absolutely AMAZING!! I added a few more of my own personal seasonings I like to use and added a little ketchup towards the end to make my sauce thicker but aside from that this recipe definitely was authentic and extremely delicious to say the least❤️
Ketchup 🤨
Made this and it was delicious. I added a little ginger and allspice.
My Jamaican friends do it for me all the time...
Just cooked this for dinner... A+! I only used Chief’s curry and tweaked the amount of seasoning to taste. Hubby approves!! Thank you!! I started following you on IG first, not I’m subscribed to your channel.
Glad you enjoyed!
Nice video iam makeing curry in few min that adobo is heaven🤪🇵🇷🙏🏼
Adono, what kind.
I dont see many jamaicans roasting their curry before, although there are a few that do that. It really makes a difference when the technique is done the proper way, but everyone has a different way of cooking curry so that's cool to see the other types of ways. Enjoy
I’ve noticed the same!
That's right! You have to burn some curry before you add the chicken. This seems to be an American Jamaican recipe. I don't know any Jamaicans that add tomatoes. Needs some peppa sauce, salt and black pepper too!
@@jamillahmills4531 you don't have to burn the curry that's really the Indian way to do it . It gives it ah toasty aroma n darkins the curry and btw jamaicans are Americans too .
Awwww with his cute voice
The child?
I thought it was a girl?
Lol I know right. He sounded so adorable in the background...
Chick, let me tell you something... eating on this RIGHT now. My man is getting a second plate! Thank you. I know how to cook but I like to make sure we try different dishes.
So glad you enjoyed hun!!!
Looks lovely!😋😋👏🏽
Following your orders! I'll let you know what's up when I'm done... 😉
I’m try this thank you
We Jamaican always burn the curry with pepper and garlic
Exactly
my thoughts... all i could think was un burnt curry is gonna destroy my stomach
I thought so. I was lost for a second! I heard if you don’t burn it , it can make your stomach hurt.
We also do it just like she did.
Looks yummy 💗I make a paste with curry powder and oil. Fry in pan and then add chicken let fry together and add water and last veggies 🥗 🥕
I made this and it tasted amazing thank you x
nilab faqiri did you follow the written recipe?
jaida ebanks I followed everything she did in her video x
What kind of curry did you use??
@@pinkgottix3190 she said it and showed it in the video
@@biancawilliams748 what?
I use them same brands however depending on my mood, i find Trinidadian curry is more spicy 🌶 than Jamaican however i won’t use that Indian curry it smells different ( you can smell it on people clothing ) and I’m sure taste different. I use a little ginger because some folks can’t stomach curry
This looks delicious!!!
I didn't have any chicken legs and thighs so I used chicken breasts and it was still very yummy. Thank you for your instructions.
Glad you enjoyed!
So when I made this recipe I had to substitute with badia and grace curries because that's all I could find where I live, along with a habanero pepper rather than scotch bonnet (don't ask). Let me just say this recipe was good asl. 10/10
Glad you enjoyed!
Nice
Looks delicious where can I purchase both curry powder?
lene2sweet you need to visit a Caribbean store
Great job girl# jamaicansbettacancook
How to cook it if you want add coconut milk just do the same exact thing? And what flavor will milk give it compared to water
Looks good!!! Have you tried the Indian version it's so scrumptious
Thank you for properly chopping up di chicken one thing I hate when ppl make curry chicken and don’t chop it up good also thank you for not using sweet pepper because I just watch a vid where someone put sweet pepper in the curry I was SHOOKETH lol
😂😂😂 "Shooketh"
SparklingCider Mami shooketh 😂
Bell pepper can enhance the curry. Yu won’t even know pepper bell pepper in deh trust mi😁 don’t shock 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾🌹😁
Hello nurse, this is what your patients been waiting for.
How high should I put the stove?
How can I marinate the meat with the seasons can I use lemon juice?
Can I add coconut milk to it?? It looks amazing 😉. I’m going to try this. Thank you for ur service 😊😊😉🙏🏽
You most definitely can
Yummy 😋 but, the seasoning looks about a tablespoon and a half
That’s what she said in the beginning 😊
@@d.morgan717 actually it isn’t what she said, she said, a teaspoon and a half...which a tablespoon is way more than a teaspoon . Go listen one more time...
Agreed! I was like that's nobody's teaspoon and a half lol.
Why do you use 3 kinds do they taste different??
Yum.. did you take the skin off the chicken before you seasoned?
the choice to leave the skin on or off is up to you but her chicken did t have any skin on it.
How u stop the curry from falling off the chicken?
When would you add the pepper?
Is there any rice recipe
Guys add your chicken when the oil heats up
Heavy handed with those seasonings lol -- definitely a tablespoon or more not a teaspoon but lovely outcome!
we like to taste our food
Is it okay to use coconut milk instead of water ? I heard it’s thicker & better
No, coconut milk doesn’t go well with this dish
Anna Miller yes you can use coconut milk but not instead of water. In addition to. I use about a quarter cup like i was taught.
At what point do you add the coconut milk?
Where can I find scotch bonnets peppers? I have had a hard time finding them at my local market.
LadyWillams a lot of markets have them listed as habanero peppers
Scotch bonnets are hard to find. Use the more available habaneros.
International grocery store
Did you clean your meats?
😀
Dah baby said we are finished.
The adobo was a teaspoon and a half? I just wanna be sure so I don’t mess up the recipe
Where do you find the bag curry powders
Ugh righttttt
It should be in your local grocery store if not find a Spanish or Caribbean store and they should have it may not be the same brand.
Hi if you need some good jamaica curry contact me at hanchardhopeton@gmail.com
Grate garlice.
Sorry we in Jamaica can't afford the carrots right now
Why not?
A chicken back that mi see?
Don't hide it.
w1nga_2 where? This was drums and thighs
@@ThatNurseCanCook lol I'm just playing I know.
Too much curry with make your chicken bitter
1 pack of curry is ok no need to use 3 different curry powder, Beta PaK curry is number 1 for Jamaican Curry Menu., that's what Jamaicans only use.
Jamaicans does burn the curry. Betapac is the best curry powder
Tell them sis!! I just wrote that lol
Gloves?😕
The curry will stain her nails smh
You didn't burn the curry
You forgot to burn the curry mam lol
You forgot to cook the curry in the oil.
Theres a few different styles whether Jam or Trini or wherever it may be from. Idk all of them but what I do know is some ppl lightly fry the spice in oil first to "seal" it but then some ppl cook it really hot and almost burn the spice I guess she has yet another way to do it....Looks gd af to me.
Not all jamaicans do it this way. Just like some jamaicans use allspice, coconut milk etc. and some don't.
I didn’t forget. That’s just not how I usually make curry chicken. Sometimes I burn the curry first and sometimes I don’t. Depends on my mood and to be honest it doesn’t make a difference.
Wow that ain't no tsp lol
You have to burn your curry and you adding curry power after the chicken is half way cook.HUGE MISTAKE YOU CAN GET BELLY RUN ..AGAIN BECAUSE CURRY HAS TO COOK
Jamaicans put carrots in everything😬
Jamaican choice curry powder isn’t the best try Betapac next time
The trini in me is cringing ..... yuh eh burn the curry ... yuh put carrots.... yuh put carrots.... oh gosh man yuh put carrots in curry chicken
Jamaicans put carrot and potato in curry chicken yes. I’m cringing at how much curry she use... too much! And she never burn some ah di curry ina di pot before she dash e chicken in deh. No sah dat will give you run belly!
Jamaicans use potatoes and carrots. When I don’t have time I skip both
Note: A narrator-does not-show wavy hands in the viedo. Keep suave voice: "Only".
That looks salty to me. Chicken seasoning and adobo have salt and curry tends to have a salty flavor.. idk
Sounds like the that one black aunt that thinks she's better than everyone.
Pls don't alter or change this if ur american..y'all love to out our name on shit n it's not authentic.
Terrible recipe!!! Where’s the ginger & scallions???
Disgusting that as a nurse you are using the chicken juice glove touching everything 🤢🤮 and plz don’t call this curry
