this really shows Hank has his soft side, shouting at Jay shows he sees him as family, almost as a second son for caring that much. Seems the show is definitely going in the love direction for Upton and Jay

Jay and Ruzek have always been like Hank's adopted sons just due to their age when they joined the team. I also see fear in Hank, not just that he lost a son a second time, but Jay is now the vet on the team, he's been there longer than anyone (even Ruzek). Hank doesn't want to lose someone that way again.
The emotion in Voights voice there was brilliant, he was angry at Halstead and sacred that he could of lost him. Voight is right that he always does his job x

I feel so bad for Jay, Everyone he knows either dies or leaves him. He proable feels a lot of guilt because the last think he said to his father was not the best thing. He just lost Olinsky not his dad that is way too much. Erin left too . I feel like he is going to suffer a breakdown at the end of the season.

This was such a great dress down of Jay. He's been slowly going down hill and Voight gave him space but ultimately he needed to get yelled at.

I love the mentor /fatherly role that Hank has taken on towards Jay. Jay is an amazing cop... and I wouldnt be surprised if Voight were to give the unit to Jay one day. He's his number two.
This is an amazing & emotional scene between Hank & Jay . Great acting.
The way voight warned Hailey and said "we need Jay the way he is" because he knew he is the best guy on the team and he grounds the entire team.
Chicago pd is such a great show. Well casted. Great actors. Great storylines. It has these powerful moments like this one where you can feel what the characters are feeling. I just saw this scene last night and it was sopowerful. .
Man when Upton breaks down at the end, that is the most relatable thing I’ve seen. You try and hold it in and then someone asks if you’re alright and it just comes spilling out
ruzek used that moment to begin the sex between friends, before that nothing was happening and only explanation is the vulnerability that she was in

That’s a good boss right there, reminding Jay that he’s right there and will alway protect him but that he can only do so much Jay needs to protect himself too. I think what Voight was talking about made Jay think about Will and the fact that If he died that day Will would have lost two people he loves

I love this man
I like the way Hank started chewing Jay out slowly and quitely and then it builds up to full scale yelling. Then he says we will talk about this some more. Hank reminds me of my dad in that way. Hank's reprimand is deeper than you disobeyed a direct order. Jay's statement to Upton about how he just couldn't stop himself was perfect. Deep down Hank knows how Jay feels. Excellent scene. Great writing and acting.
He definitely should have won an emmy for this scene alone.

Anyone else find it interesting that Halstead is the only one in the unit who is told to stand down when working a case that is personal to him? Whether his bartender lady friend was shot or this episode? Compare that to the rest of the team who got to take the lead on personal matters... Antonio's son was kidnapped by the guy who also killed his partner, Lindsey tracking down Nadia's kidnapper, Burgess going undercover to find guys who assaulted her sister, Atwater protecting his relatives, Olinsky avenging his daughter, Upton avenging her partner, and Voight who needs no definition...
I have to say you have a good point I was wondering the same thing why is it ok for the rest of the team to work on personal cases but not Jay because it's to dangerous & personal according to Hank . Very good point. You can see Hank's protective of his whole team but when it comes to Jay he is seriously protective.

We really don’t need a replacement for Linstead. The Kelly Kidd thing, I get. Its a part of Kelly’s changing character arc from playboy looking for ass to a man finding someone to settle down with. But I can’t see how an Upstead ship does anything to further either of their character arcs.
But still, I totally get where you’re coming from though.
I don't know, it looks like it is slowly heading in that direction (I am not saying it is or isn't going to happen for the record).
