    I have a zoology class im taking for my senior year and we have to bring a small pet to school. I didn’t even think of using a plastic bin as a portable enclosure but it sounds perfect for my pixie frog! Thanks!

    Just an idea but it would've been better if you'd buried the bowl of water into the dirt for one it'll leave a bit more room for the lid and two it looks more natural especially if you were to use a dark coloured container other than that nice little set-up and quite useful information thank you 😉

    I have the same setup for a pacman frog and my Pacman frog developed a skin infection due to the lack of ventilation I didn't poke enough holes and the cage got too humid and bacteria thrives in humidity I noticed the top of your cage has no holes heads up poke lot of holes on the top if you spray that much water because in the wild yes they live in humid areas but they're not in a box there's wind coming from all over

    Great video, thanks for making it. I get the sense that these guys are very hardy when it comes to temperature. I generally keep my room around 73 degrees but it occasionally gets as low as 65 in the winter and as high as 82 in the summer. Would they be able to tolerate that range? I've never owned an amphibian, do these guys need a temperature gradient like snakes? If I need supplementary heat, do you recommend a heat mat or a CHE bulb? Thanks!

  • @Bmedeiros-youtube
    @Bmedeiros-youtube Před 3 lety +2

    Thing with Pac-Man and pixie frogs. They don’t need crazy space like I’m seeing in some of the comments. Because once they get bigger. They don’t move. Lol. Can’t be cramped though...

    Do you not use any heating for the frog? What would you recommend for heat source? In the winter where I'm at it's a struggle to keep place over 70 degrees lol

    • @GarrettRose
      @GarrettRose  Před 6 lety +4

      Tim where I live it’s pretty temperate, and I am able to keep my rooms ambient temp at around 78 degrees. If you live somewhere colder I would recommend a small heat mat, but do not apply it directly to the bottom of a plastic bin like this. Huge fire hazard. I would set it up to where there is a grate or barrier below the tub protecting it from the heat pad directly. Also a thermostat that you can regulate a constant temp is going to be a must where you live.

    • @Dypah
      @Dypah Před 6 lety +2

      Oh for sure, yeah I wouldn't be using a tub, I have a 10 gallon pretty much just waiting till I can get a a pixie or pacman at a expo sooner or later.

    how do you keep the container at the correct temperature without a lamp?

    • @kiki-drawer2669
      @kiki-drawer2669 Před 3 lety +1

      If you live somewhere warmer im sure its not a problem but if you need a heat lamp I'd say cut the top and glue a screen on there. They arnt escape artists so it dosnt need to be super strong unless you have cats that would sit on top. (If you have cats or dogs that want to open the box I would use small chicken wire that you can screw to the top) trile and error but experiment with what works.

      its a pretty good starter pet since they are fairly easy to take care of frog wise. just dont put them together since bullfrogs are known to eat basically anything they could fit in there mouths including other frogs. they also get up to 10 inches long do id recommend a bigger enclosure too

    Hi from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 I love your little fella and I not long got one myself. Totally adorable. Question: do you ever find the substrate starts to smell after a couple of weeks? I’m not sure what to do about it... I change his water almost every day where he goes to the toilet (not in the substrate, but maybe he pee’s in it...?) Have you got any suggestions how I can change this? Many thanks in advance. 😊
