A fun reminder to young children that no matter how tempting, always ask your parents or guardian if it's safe to touch something you're not sure about.
@@jordandenis86 yeah in today's messed up situation with covid a message about being careful to touch things would have alot of fear induced into it. It's crazy how I remember this from when I was younger.
I remember when my sister and I were kids, we thought this was a commercial for a TV show and we asked our parents what time the show would be on so we could watch it. So, of course, we were bummed when we found out it was just a safety commercial. Many years later, I discovered that to a certain extent, it was a show as the mouse puppet that gives the speech was used as Rutherford Mouse in an episode of Big Comfy Couch. If we had been aware of that at the time, we may not have been disappointed 😆
Brings me so many fun memories. The shows on Television in the 90's to the the year 2006 were very memorable in my opinion ;-) This commercial is one of the most funny/bittersweet commercial that I enjoy watching in my childhood :-)
Yeah really nailed the time frame. Teletoon and these concerned children's advertisements are nostalgia gold. Go watch old bumpers from Teletoon in the early 2000s and it will be a very powerful experience to say the least
This was creepy to me as a kid but now as an adult i know mice and rats are usually smart enough to know when your trying to trap them with cheese. But usually they get fooled by peanut butter
What a sweet big brother, protecting his little brother, rarely but normally older brothers usually let their younger brothers discover for themselves. If that rat did not stop his little brother, he would have been killed. What a great lesson.
I could've used this commercial in my life around the time I put my hand on the stove when I was 4. Had no idea the burners got as hot as they do and why they glow red, in my 4 year old mind, cooking was a magical thing that didn't involve heat, so i just threw my hand on up there and CHRIST ALMIGHTY
Yeah, but this one's actually cute and genuine, unlike certain ads featuring puppets. I won't say what it is, but let's just say, don't put that ad in your mouth.
Want to hear the story behind that PSA? Subscribe to Todays Podcast and you will. We have a show coming up on the story behind this Classic Canadian PSA!
What the heck is the sound when the male rat runs to look at the cheese after he goes, "Wow!". Sounds like whistling. I always remembered that when watching this. Anyone remember watching some show like The Untalkative Bunny on Teletoon or some anime show on YTV, then having this popup?!
honestly though i saw this stuff most on ytv. i still remember with what ever provider we had, channel 26 was treehouse, 27 was ytv, 43 was family, and 44 was teletoon.
Hey! It's a CCA PSA featuring puppets of a brother and sister talking about getting an adult to identify before interacting with it that feels more genuine than awkward, with no unintentional innuendos and puppetry that actually feels almost like something from Jim Henson (almost)! Take notes Blue Singing Monsters!
Really? They seem kinda Rizzoish to me. He's not scary. Well, at least we can all agree they look better than the puppets in Hip Choice and Dontcha Put It In Your Mouth.
Messages from the Government of Canada and Children's Advertisers; Always important! Never fool around by touching traps, getting high and/or drink and drive. If it happens to you, your life will never be the same. Always have fun in your life but at the same time, always be safe.
wow... I haven't seen that ad in forever, I completely forgot about it. I did not understand about the mouse trap part, but now I do, now that I saw it again.
omg. i remember watching this when i was really little, and thinking mmm that cheese looks really good, and getting all excited when this commercial would come on :'D those were the days. :'3
this channel need to update, theresa alot more ads from the 90s! like that one robot lady from planet danger where her arm got cut off and she says "i can put my arm back on, you cant. play safe"
Ever since I watched "The Great Mouse Detective" (which gave me nightmares) I was super creeped out by rats (especially cartooned ones) so this really made me uneasey.
OMG... MAD MAGAZINE. in a comic it showed a BIG peice of cheese and some mice... and a father mouse said "Just eat AROUND your uncle fred. the cheese is still good. OMG REFERENCE TO MY CHILDHOOD! :')
Watching thing like this gives me the distinct impression that there where people trying really hard to try to show others how to try to NOT be stupid about things and how to try to survive in general...hmmm Now I wonder why that might be..? Oh wait I already know... :)
I'm going to be honest here. All these kids commercials back in the day kept trying to send a message like "don't use drugs, don't talk to strangers, don't eat anything from strangers" etc. I didn't notice these messages as a kid. So I geuss these commercial programming guys wasted a shit load of money for nothing x)
"We don't have to be afraid, but we do have to be careful." Genuinely great writing
Totally! If only they had this message in today's world... You know, not fear based!
@@jordandenis86 yeah in today's messed up situation with covid a message about being careful to touch things would have alot of fear induced into it. It's crazy how I remember this from when I was younger.
In practice how do you show caution but not fear
@@twenties3870 think gun safety, don't be afraid of it, but don't point it at you friends or look down the barrel. Caution, not fear.
Watching this now as an adult, I realize that there's not enough clearance for the trap to even work.
Watching This Now,I Realize That The Cheese Is Big Enough That They Could Just Grab It And It Won't Set The Trap Off.XD
The mice are also to small to even get hit by the thing possibly the 2 of them.
As a kid i never even realised it was a trap.. I was extremely naive though.
DUUUDE. I thought the exact same shit while watching this!
I'm a Canadian. I have the vaguest memories of things like this. I love how semi-cute/creepy/ dated it all is.
made us think though, didn't it? Generation X continues!!
I’m Generation Z and I saw this as a kid
I'm technically gen Z.
@@makennashuter6606 were you born before or after 2005?

I was terrified that we were going to see mouse puppet carnage for a hot minute. Old PSAs did not mess around.
You know these were done well when they're all still burned into your mind over 20 years later.

Ah yes. The puppets from Radical Sheep productions :)
That's sooo cuuute!! 😂❤
Two Muppet rats can’t take the cheese from the mouse trap. It could be dangerous having it around. 🐀🐀🧀
Dammit, the mice are getting smarter! No wonder my traps aren't working

2 people asked Uncle Fred.
What if Uncle Fred had some insightful advice to give?

Saw this one on Treehouse TV
+Swordterranean40 Huh?
TheCraZ- CanadianGamer
No, but Treehouse Tv is a commercial free channel.
XD no such thing.

Here's a missing piece of my childhood. I totally forgot about this.
This scared the shit out of me when I was a kid.
you haven't even seen the creepy drug dealer one have you?? takes off his shades and looks literally like the walking dead came to sesame street lol
those puppets look precisely like in one of the Big Comfy Couch episodes when Loonette read a story to Molly
They do give off Dust Bunny vibes, for sure 😆
That’s because they’re made by the same company.

Late 90's, but it seeped it's way into the 2000's as well...they stopped airing this around 2004-2005ish.
I loved this commercial growing up!
Omg rewatching these in 2020, what a trip

They don’t make commercials like this anymore
That one rat sure sounds like Karen Prell (Red Fraggle).

Why did this enter my head again and then I check and it's the upload date
Don't sugar coat it. Give it to em' straight. Let that mouse reach for the cheese and get it's neck broke. Don't touch shit you don't know about.
Yeah and then the rat just watches his brother die.
IF HE DIES, HE DIES.
Pfft That Cheese Is So Big That They Could Just Grab It And Not Set The Trap Off.
And right after this commerical ended, Uncle Fred comes down and gets killed.
