This video is a walk around, review, and description of the mods i have done to my Ascend 12t Kayak. This is a great entry level Kayak, and i'm enjoying how to learn more about fishing the upper Texas coastal marsh system.

For anyone wanting to add a trolling motor to one of these or any kayak that is thin on the side behind the seat ..just clamp it to the side and go. Ive been doing it for over two years on my vibe and ascend and have never cracked or hurt the boat or felt the motor slip even on high .just clamps to the side and then folds up behind the seat .ends up in a perfect spot as when im slid down relaxing in the seat cruising the handle is right above your shoulder and can reach up and tap it for adjustments and its right there for minor adjustments mid cast . No hate at all for making a bracket , definitely the reliable and smart thing to do ..but for those that cant or dont want to make one ...just clip it to the boat lol

I wish I would’ve seen this video when it came out I rigged the water snake trolling motor for kayaks on mine and it’s alright but seeing your frame build I think I would have done that instead! Great vid!

Appreciate the video. Just recently acquired this kayak with a fish locator and trolling motor. I do like how you mounted your frame for the trolling motor and am going to use this same idea.

I promise you ...just clamp it to the boat itself and roll out .setup in ten seconds and holds fine .

@@ventureroam4817 Gotcha.. It looked familiar.. I just bought 2 coolers, the Sub-Z 22 from Hoodoo(to match my kayak) and the Deep Freeze 20 from Titan/Artic Zone.... and finding out Artic zone makes the Ozark Trail exclusively for WM which is why it looks like the Titan, but I'm afraid I might do what you do and sell out for a Yeti...

I don’t have any problems sitting in the seat for hours. I do like the sear mod though.
Looks like it allows for better storage of things with the seat modded. Does it?

I have one, the only thing I don't like is how unstable it is. Making custom outriggers for it. Really tippy.

How did you mount the motor mount to the kayak

    • @ventureroam4817
      @ventureroam4817  Před 2 lety

Industrial strength zip ties. This model of kayak has D rings in the back cargo area. I made the frame to sit on top of the hull, above those D rings, and sinched in place with the zip ties.
      Thanks for watching.

I made a square bracket out of 2”x2”, secured to d rings that were factory installed on the kayak. I’ll make a video in the next week or so and explain. Thanks for watching.

Great video , but for me I do not see the sense in buying something like this and then turning it into a regular little fishing boat.
I have a nice 16 foot lund I can pretty much go where I want.
Now other places like back waters of dams , small ponds , etc is what I bought the 12T for.
No rudders , no motors , no batteries to worry about going dead. Something simple and basic to get back where my bigger boat could get in trouble.
The only to be thing I can see is the seat modification and those cheesy paddle clip to be fixed , other than that at least for me , adding all kinds of extra crap to the boat means more work and more that can go wrong or get broken .
I'll never use the thing on a windy day either .
That's when I take the big boat out
Just because there is a open space don't mean ya gotta fill it up!

Thanks for watching. It definitely adds another level of stuff to manage by having all of the add ons.
I started fishing the marsh system around Galveston and use the crap out of this to get way back where boats can’t. I’ve been back in places where it took 30 minutes to ride back there using the trolling motor. This was my first time using a kayak, so I chose to go this way instead of buying one that was over $3k. Now that I know I really enjoy it, I’ll be looking to get another one that’s a little better.
I have a bass boat that I use when I fish freshwater, lakes, and river. It’s definitely a lot easier.
      Good luck and tight lines!

Not everyone has money for a big boat. I got a crescent lite tackle and a 12t. Got them at a steal. It's fun paddling out to guys in 80k boats with 5gs worth of fish finder gear and smoking them on crappie
