Lots of people don't have the luxury of a well kitted out workshop but still want to make stuff, they just don't always know where to start.
So this project is for those people (which was me not so long ago)
PART 2 OUT NEXT THURSDAY/FURZEDAY SUBSCRIBE
All the parts were bought from www.pitbikeparts.co.uk
This is not a sponsored video just thought its easier if everything comes from one place, they know what i've had so if you undertake this project and need any of the parts just call them and they will sort you out.
A picture Gallery will be uploaded to my website next week when project is complete.

Here we have a nice project that most people can get involved with as its not all fancie lathes and Tig Welders.
This is a really great idea Colin! Everyone wants to make what these youtube creators make, but dont have the same tools. Perfect answer!
colinfurze my brother is like 16 and he got a tig welder for his b day xD
colinfurze song at 5:53? Whats it called?
good job proving how minimal a toolset needs be to get a job done.
LUSH! front axle looking sweet
These types of videos are awesome, I mean all your videos are awesome, but these videos where anyone can make it at home is what CZcams is all about! Awesome project Colin!
ChrisFix oh hello 😂
Love your videos ChrisFix :)
Hello
Thanks Joey!
Chris it feels pretty weird that this comment didn't start with "Hey guys, ChrisFix here", I guess I've just watched to many of your vids. Good luck with the drift sting.
Fun fact: back when I was super interested in building homemade go karts, I watched this very video first. That all happened around the time this video came out - 6 years ago. 6 years ago, I didn’t know anything about anything involving go karts and their parts (Jeez, I’m going to be a rapper someday- Karts? Parts? Get it?), so I was pretty impressed with what you had in your shop. Looking at it from my current age’s perspective, it’s not as extravagant but it’s still pretty cool. I mean, who just has a welder casually chilling in the corner of a generic garage?
You basically described my story. This is actually how I met Colin. Best channel ever!
Я как только увидел видео Колина не CZcams, я сразу же подписался.
I know this is an old comment but you can get an ok welder online for under 100$ depending on where you are
I was watching this to complete my project. My mom shouted at me "stop listening to songs"
Tell her how serious you are about your career as a orchestra conductor. And that she should listen to pink Floyd.
Why you are working on your gocart
No she didn’t, you’re just trying to be funny.
Move out!
That’s not music , it’s horseshit
I am tempted by this.
Mumbo Jumbo a mumbo comment in the wild!
Hi mumbo
ooh hello!
do it on your channel please, i would watch XD
Mumbo Jumbo mumbooo!!!
I really like the music on this one 👍
There australian i think
colinfurze oh great colinfurze can you do one with a pulse jet
colinfurze are you from the uk or Australia
He's British.
i think he already has
I’m from Canada, we also tend to mix metric and imperial measurements even on the same project. I would love to see more projects like this requiring few specialized tools!
i find myself talking back at the screen in joy as if i was 10 again and thought colin could actually hear me, not for real but got so into it that i started saying what i was thinking out loud.
Colin, mate
Where's your fucking Safety Tie?
I was wondering aswell!
I mean the angle grinder is pretty dangerous..... :D
Safety tie is a piece of premium gear.
Well you said it, guess what happens when the angle grinder catches on his tie.
2dog14 Indeed. And he forgot to say that a safety tie is the most important tool for the task.
Like darklander said, safety tie couldn't be used because not everyone has access to one
Hello all Dutch fans, i will be at the Bright Day tech fest near amsterdam this weekend and speaking on stage, come down and check it all out. See you there
colinfurze i am going
Im not dutch, unless im paying
colinfurze hey I'm such a big fan and could u give any ideas on what to do with two old pit bikes and a load of steal box section?
Ah, shame I only heard about this now, tickets are already sold out.
hey bro, im your big fan, can you teach me how to make the jet bike?
Dude. The first 50 seconds made me feel good inside.
I revisited this video a whole year later and still gained knowledge while being entertained. Nice work Colin!
Build a go cart from bits in my garden shed? Hmmm.... I don't think spiders and old porn magazines would be structurally sound enough.
roll the magazines up, and get the spiders to make millions of web
mattyfox666 omfg 😆
mattyfox666 lol
Those mags were probably stiffer than plywood before they were put away, if you catch my drift. Saw those up, farm some (read: a buttload of) silk from the spiders (this will take a while) and you have an organic frame!
+Andrix145 And thus a great idea was born!
Thanks Again for featuring our music Colin, you're a straight up legend in many ways!
Great music
horrible music legit i had to mute the video
kakku mies piss off with you negativity :)
Love this make Colin. I always wanted one a s kid. Might just be time to make one. Thanks for taking the time to think through how to make without lots of gear!
He builds the most insane and awesome stuff I’ve ever seen
Hey Colin, I think your way of thinking is infecting my mind. As I was watching this, I started thinking of ways to modify this design to turn it into a tank-treaded snow-kart. If I ever manage to build such a thing, I'll totally send you pictures. Heck, I'll even try making a design sketch to send to you so you could try it if you wanted.
Go for it
@gadgetpony please post your work on a video :-)
Gah, I'm no good at videos, and I'm camera shy. I don't even have the materials to make it yet. I've only got a very rough sketch of the design down so far. I'll have to refine that first before I do anything else.
YES ID WATCH THAT ......hay if ya camera shy just do wat i do ...feel free to check it out...
Nice attempt at a plug.
I've had a word with Mum and she says 'steer clear of that Furze fella he'll get you in trouble'
lol
lol
Ha ha……. Lol
Aye, me mum took the belt to my backside for running over the cat!
I really appreciate your tips, advices, instructions, words and especially also your video editing😊
This is extremely awesome. You are brilliant! Thank-you for sharing your knowledge and inspiring others.
THIS is the kind of project I subscribed for.
yeah, he builds some pretty cool stuff.
Look, I've got double sided sticky tape and a hammer. How far can I go with this project?
Clay Mann you could make four and a half of these
If you also have scissors and pliers, you might get pretty far making a cardboard and wire scale model of this project^^
Use the double sided sticky tape to glue the hammer down and keep watching CZcams videos, might be safer for you.
jospi2 I didn't watch this so I could be flipping safe. I wanna taste the apple, jospi2. I want to bite the electric tiger's tail and ride it until the end of the mother flipping line!
+Clay Mann well clarkson gets around with just a hammer. you should be alright.
what could posibly go wrong?
awesome way to build a go kart without a welder. I can now make my dream come true because of you!! God Bless you Colin
We’d love to make this kart, but where are the measurements? Can anyone help with the basic dimensions, as I guess it’s critical for the steering rod etc.
This is something where you can very easily choose your own measurements. After all, you might need more of less legroom than Colin. And because there's no welding, if something ends up being too long/short, you can simply shorten it/make a new part and bolt it in.
i woudl just rent or buy a super cheap welder the bolts arnt worth it
@@zackskinner2666 yeah you can buy a cheap welder for under £100. I'm sure it's shit but it's get the job done. He said the parts would cost £600 brand new. Which I'm dubious about, but that only be another £100 on top of price if true. And you would probably use it more than once. He didn't factor in the cost of all the metal work. I'd bet atleast another £200 on top, then bolts doohickies bits and bobs. Call it a grand realistically. That bit of ply wood for the bottom alone would be over £100 I know recently cos I bought a piece recently half that size to make a lid for an aquarium. Cost £50
@@1invag i bought a 100euro arc welder and It works really well and I'm used to being around good welders
While I agree that welders would do a better job, not everyone's workspace would be suitable for welding. The point of this project is that it can be done with minimal tools and skills.
Hi Colin! Great first part, I can't wait to se next video's! :)
Hahaha me too! By the way, I love your videos and I'm impressed by it all.
You should do a video series where you build a project without doing any test builds before the videos. It would be a series because it would have a bunch of videos that are of you just failing and having to try again. I think it'd be really cool. What does everyone else think?
Or you should try setting up a live stream...
thats a good idea
thanks Colin, I finally know what engine to use in a shifter kart.
I BEEN WATCHING YOU FOR 8 MONTHS ALL THE WAY FROM PHILLIPHINES .THIS IS THE BUILD I WANTED TO DO BUT I DONT HAVE MONEY TO BUY MATERIAL .THANK YOU FOR READING THIS.I LOVE THIS BUILD.
Same here
This might be the first time colinfurze actually posted a tutorial.
He's done a few - the shed or the jet engine with no welds come to mind.
He did one on how to build the mobility scooter
you mean you haven't built you own hydroformed pulse jet yet?
He did one about how to make a jet engine using only an angle grinder, a drill, and some duct tape.
Where was this video when I was in high school?!?! :P Awesome, dude!
Can't wait for part 2!
It is never to late to build awesome stuff and do stupid things.
yolo bro
I like how you explain, its so much fun and so much easy to learn things, keep going men !
4:29 That wheel is angled for a reason, its called camber, it helps handling in corners..
@@Jyrsky oh what the fuck i didnt even know
Jyrsky so?
😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 18°. camber I think not my friend lmfao it does. allow for slight camber but u are absolutely incorrect the gokart was built correctly
@@n8gixx6smith50 the front tires were actually on backwards so he endid up doing twice the work he shouldve
Just something that I was about to ask. Thamks for the anwer!!!
I'm so low tech you lost me at angle grinder…
you can cheeply rent one of those at a hardware store
I thought for a second we were gonna see a wooden go kart.
Same
MAN, I don't even have a hammer
@@aliks_777 yea, I dont think you'll be dping much with that level of tools
I am only one, who thinks that music is too loud compared to his voice?
Are you 80?
No.Matthew Smith
yeah, audio levelling has always been his videos weakest points, having to constantly adjust the volume :/ videos are great just literally this is the only problem!
I agree. I am too constantly adjusting volume.
audio is fine, you old farts need to sit the fuck down.
This dude is awesome hes so positive and wants me to keep making cool stuff like these even in hardtimes when budget is too small big thanks to this guy
THANK YOU AND SO MANY OTHERS LIKE YOU FOR TRYING TO HELP PEOPLE,
In America, I have to sort through two different unit systems in my parts and tools. It's a pain in the ass to find metric calipers, too! Fecking Imperial measurements. Metrics all the way!
BrokenLifeCycle 24.5
The only thing I've ever found confusing with mixing Imperial and metric units is when someone says mil. I'm never sure if they actually mean a mil (.001 inches) or are abbreviating millimeter.
BrokenLifeCycle I hate it when diy channels only give the measurements in inches. There's so much converting and adjusting to do
Metric is good for science, as many of the equations are based around it, but Imperial is better for estimates, and for projects it doesn't matter. For instance, you wouldn't say "that guy is about 170 centimeters tall" nor would you say "they're about 2 meters." One is too specific, the other too precise. However, saying "that guy is about 5.5 feet" is easier. And the suchlike.
hwat tha fuck you jus fuckin sey boi
Love the video Colin, it's just when I saw the little metal shavings all over your carpet, it reminded me of a lifehack - put a magnet inside an inverted Ziploc bag, and set it near where you'd think metal shavings would fall. After you're all done, revert the Ziploc bag to its normal state, and you'll have all your pesky metal shavings in a bag that you can seal and throw out.
That is a tip lad
colinfurze yo Colin, you ever considered entering the RedBull boxcar races? You'd be awesome!
wayne morris true LOL
wayne morris He did on the other channel. Made a laptop.
Or just buy or build a simple electromagnet, so you can turn it off
These vidios have cheered me up so much since ive lost my job and home from covid i sit in my car and have a right giggle whatching all this cool stuff! 😄👍
I have seen this series 100 times over and I enjoy it every time
Doing this project without a welder definitely takes more skill and attention to detail than i think most people have!
Zwenk Wiel not really. if you think about it if your kart was veering to the left you could just attach the steering wheel in such a way that when it is straight the veer is compensated
The bigger issue is at least here in the US you can buy an adequate welder for less than $300 (GBP 200) new, less if ya grab one used. At the rate he is going through hardware, you could have saved half the cost of the welder by not having to buy so many nuts and bolts.
It takes less skill to weld than to drill a hole and insert a nut and bolt?
Mig welding is much easier than drilling multiple straight, evenly centered holes through multiple layers of steel. I think that anyone whos done both would agree!
v5u7sulh2
Well if accuracy is important, then yeah.
Even though I can't afford any of this I still love the vids
Should we abolish currency?
Yes
I love the video on making things at home most people don't have C and C's and welders laying around those are project to use once in a lifetime this is what we need more of my UK mad genius
The music used makes me remember each and every video.. The first song was stuck in my head for days!
Didnt filthy frank just build this?
glad I wasn't the only one who thought this
ikr
Ruben Salazar pimped wheelchairs ftw
Looking for too long gor this comment
What video?
By the way, great videos. Keep up the great work.
This has given me more inspiration for my own go kart which uses a crappy 49cc mini Moto engine so I'm gonna get either the 125cc or a 110cc 4 speed, thanks for your help Colin
I love this dudes energy
no safety tie, that's bloody dangerous
I agree sir, this is nonsense
The safety tie is a power tool, this video is basic tools only.
alejandrinos safety tie allows you to use level 5 tools, todays level 1
You obviously haven't watched enough colinfurze XD
When was he using any tools with the tie on?
WOW! Spectacular idea. I think you should make the basic tools builds a reoccurring feature.
Naah, more like how to use basic tools to make more exotic tools like metal lathe.. Then people can just build their own tools!
I'd really like to see that
I love your working area dude. So vintage.
My favorite youtuber!
Love you man!
Hey Colin! Love the vids, keep 'em coming! Just wondering if there's anywhere I can get exact measurements for all the parts of this build?
Cheers
Hey Colin. I wanted to get one of those cheap Chinese electric bicycle conversation kits - then make it into a PCV pipe go cart for my kids. I’d love to see your take on a PVC pipe / electric project. Cheers. Love your channel !
Love all your videos, your truly an inspiration. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Awesome video. You have really been a role model since I was a little kid, and saw these videoes for the first times.👏😁
the only thing I dislike about Colin's videos is the inability to find the continuation videos. I'm always so anxious to see the other vids but I can never find them unless I'm in front of a computer and click the box. We need mobile friendly click options
its not out yet, its next thursday video. the thing i don't like about the mobile annotations is you can not chosse the video and there quite a few restorations in where there are and how many.
colinfurze thanks man. I agree with you on that.

That front axle part is sketchy
Arnt all the gocarts people make as kids sketchy?
@@minnesotamadman1149 my uncle had one as a kid which was really really scary, so i've heard. apparently the chain was really close to whipping off every time it was ridden.
the entire thing is a bolt on, its all sketchy, the only way to have a go kart that isnt sketchy is to spend 12k on it, and even then, its still fuckin gnarly as shit, go karts flip if theyre gas powered and you hit a rock theres no fun if its safe
where did buy that steering axle?
We need to get people building stuff in their sheds. Lockdown opened up alot of eyes, what they can do. Let's make it easier
Took two years to make one with my son, during Covid, but the result is fantastic. Thanks Colin
I'm lucky enough to have 3 welders ( 2 X mig and 1x Tig ) . It's only when you watch something like this you realise how lucky you are to have kit like that . Great video 👍
tbh stick welder is pretty cheap and good, it takes some time to get hang of it but it is an amazing tool on low budget
I agree 100% with what people are saying here. Need to get myself a grinder (or borrow one from family member) and find where to buy the metal from locally. (Sourcing material for projects is the number 1 reason most never get started for me)
Really? Did you spend +100 hours outside looking for supplies?
Nope, I spent considerably less than 100+ hours trying to source material, I had given up way before then. Why is 100+ a special number?
Colin Richardson google Metal Supermarket. They have all the metal you need and they'll even cut it to the right lengths for you.
Colin Richardson I agree it can be a pain finding materials locally and it can get expensive buying online when you take postage into account. Search for your nearest steel stockholders and give them a call, ask if they have an offcuts section or scrap pile you can look through. My local place has racks of "offcuts" up to about 3m long and the 50x50 box section is about 3 or 4 quid a metre. There's a scrap pile with small offcuts of plate and flat bar that they sell by the kilo for pocket change. I've never tried any but apparently a lot of fabrication places usually have a decent scrap pile you can buy from.
I'm a big fan of your work 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I love the video and it shows that where there is a will there is a way. On the other hand I love welding with my everlast so I will definitely be welding my go cart.
3:35 Built-in bumpers. Clever.
alright colin, great vid, but just wondering what lathe it is you have in your shed..? cheers
Definitely on my bucket list. Still think that if you'd mounted the front wheel assembly upside down you'd have had some neat looking camber. 4 years on and i still love this project
You make it look so easy
You should flip the rear axle, so the rear sproket will be on the right side of the kart, matching with the left side of the engine ( where is the sproket) so the engine will mount outside of the kart, unless you are trying to seat in front of the engine
seats going in front, i don't like side mounted engines
+colinfurze What about cooling and breathing?
I mean, that engine is air cooled, right? and unless you extend the air intake, it should at full tilt be less powerfull as it could be.
(yeah... my gramnar sucks... english is not my first language. :/ )
patricio valenzuela Side to side weight distribution must be taken into consideration. An ideal one would be symmetrical centre mounted engine.
Air cooled engine should be fine even when there is driver+seat front of it, thought if your going to make some covers for the car, then i suggest building some air intakes just in case.
Side mounted engine brings so many troubles with weight distribution that little air cooling is last things in your mind, specially in your first drive with it.
A lot of air will be sucked underneath the cart and pass under the seat, this will get to the engine just fine, the air behind the seat is not going to be sitting still, there will be a fair bit of air movement. It wouldn't overheat even at low speeds or standing still, as long as it's not revving flat out for long periods it shouldn't get too hot anyway.
Next vid idea: Go Cart w/ no power tools. Awesome vid tho now I feel inspired.
I think It might be impossible unless you use like hand operated drill
@@SM-vq2vs it's possible, it's just an insane amount of effort to do that lol, you can drill and cut everything by hand but it's gonna take a bloody long time to get through the metal lol
This video made me want to build my own go kart so that's what I did so thanks Colin

What will i do i have a engine with clutch please tell where do i fix the clutch
Since you didn't use a welder, you could cut a wider hole so you could tension the chain by moving the engine back and fourth.
lifting it with washers is easier and can not slip.
colinfurze A bit harder but true.
There is always two ways to do it.. Lazy way or the right way.
