- Do you know what the most frequently asked questions are by enthusiasts to space exploration experts?
Well, the first one is: "How long does it take to get to that particular planet?" The second, more general, is: "But why is it so difficult to reach that particular planet?"
When I happen to be asked the first question during a conference, I usually respond with the famous metaphor of the old man and the traveler. Are you familiar with it?
In a faraway land, an old sage was sitting on the edge of a road.

I would say either a comet or Sedna.
I thought Pluto’s orbit was unique in that it’s not on the same plane as all the other planets. I remember an analogy that if all the planets were the size of marbles and peppercorns, and were on the ground resembling their orbital plane, Pluto would be 200 feet in the air. Wouldn’t that complicate things? Forgive my ignorance, as I’m not well-versed in astrophysics.
The Sun. Even if you get there, you'd fry.
You should go there at night, so says AOC! 😂
@@iamlsusam Bet she believes it’s safer at night 😂😂
@@iamlsusam She never said that. The clip of that was clearly altered.
@@rogerlawrence19 she’s said so much stupid stuff over the years, it’s easy to believe she said that!
@@iamlsusam Okay, but fact check it before you spread it.
Great video and information !
Glad they had a hard surface to land on when they got there.
The rotation made it much harder.
Oumuamua would be difficult, too!
The Oort Cloud.
...and here I thought you were going to discuss how intricately difficult it is to get from the Earth to the Sun
The toughest comet/asteroid to pronounce is ....
... and it won't let you land unless you pronounce it correctly!
Hah, You are right!
They never tried landing on a comet again because of Shirt-Gate
merc for sure
The summit of Olympus Mons is far harder to reach. We will never summit Olympus Mons by vehicle or foot.
The other side of the observable universe I reckon.
Hardest destination "in the solar system".
@@rogerlawrence19 The end of the solar system I reckon.
@@zykloniumgoyoxide3199 lmao, that sounds right to me.
Doubt that _everything depends on the nature of the mission, the mass of the spacecraft, and the propulsion_ .
Methinks, everything depends on the hull material of the spacecraft cos this determines the travel time w/o
getting irreversible adverse health effects like chromosomal damages or carcinogenesis due to space radiation.
We're writing the year 2023, not 1969, what are millimeters of aluminium b/t life and death still good for? Nothing!
So its not a short answer is it? 6:27
