Wow! I suggested this comparison just yesterday night. Thank you. Have fun making new videos. 👍🙏
To me the 12.1 is more controlled re. sibilance, where the 320's seems more prone to 'sssss'.
Overall, I like the tonal presentation of the 12.1 a bit better. It's an impression, a real audition, listening space or amp can change 'ears' easily. :)
Thanks for this comparison; I'm trying to decide between these 2 speakers, so this is perfect. From listening to this video (with Sennheiser Urbanite headphones), the 12.1 sounds clearer and more detailed. I felt I heard some notes/instruments better. While I could tell a difference it wasnt huge.
I've auditioned the D330 Towers in the past, and loved its warm sound. It was a final contender against the Polk Signature Series S50 towers; I ended up getting the Polk's for being more detailed. Now i'm looking to get bookshelf speakers for another room, and am considering the D320. As I recall I loved the warm sound from this series.
Any thoughts on the warm tone of the D320 and how it compares to the 12.1?
I have the D320s , I can definitely say that the diamonds 12.1 sound more open and detailed. They sound more detailed than the D320s . Having said that I believe that nothing in the price range matches the balance of D320s .
Based on this vid alone, it makes me want to sell off my 12.2 and get the way cheaper d320. Lol! This vid shows the 12.1 being inferior in everyway to the 320, from soundstage to tonality. In reality, the treble is boosted on the D310/D320 from all the charts Ive seen, rising from 10khz and peaking as much as 5db at 15khz. Next to a neutral speaker like the 12.1, its goin to sound more lively and attractive to most ears. I choose neutrality. And the D310/320 has many wide peaks and dips throughout the whole frequency range, wherelese the 12.1 has a frequency response as smooth as a baby's bottom.
Lets see those charts then, 'cause that's not what I hear here anyway. I hear a huge suckout in the mids on the 12.1, and maybe slightly more high end on the 320. And, FYI, the Diamond 9.1, 10,1, 225, 11.1 have all had that rising treble in the top octave, according to measurements from Stereophile and Soundstage. And, it isnt really that audible, because there's very little harmonic content in that range, especially on pop and rock recordings, and anyone over 45 has lessened acuity that high too
@@DougMen1 i tried taking away all the dots and spaced everything out, youtube still removed it. You can google D320 Hifi Voice and Diamond 12.2 Hifi Voice. Both are done by the same testers so it makes it much more comparable. Those wide peaks and dips on the d320 are just not for me. And there are a few more measurements showing the same thing so results are consistent. The previous diamonds all have that rising treble for a reason, the 12s dont. The 12s want to stick to neutrality, the other diamonds not so.
Listening to demos are fun, they can be quite accurate if they are done properly but never judge anything solely by a demo alone.
Good. Wharfedale 12.1 has a fuller sound compared to the D320 which has a brighter and more airy presentation...
i was thinking about the diamond 12.1 but this video really change my mind…… rly surprised by the performance of the D320 despite a much lower price………it would be great if u can compare it to the dali spektor 2 which is in the similar price range …… anyway.. thanks for ur video
It is not wise to base a purchase on a vid from yt. Have a look around at graphs, charts, owner impressions, etc. The 12.1/12.2 is one of the best speakers you can buy for the money and more.
@@corkydukeII5898 funny thing is the 12.1 doesnt have a v curve, it is pretty linear besides the intended bbc dip.
No disappointments here but if you want a more exciting forward bumping sound the D320 is likely it, if you want a more even accurate musical sound for long varied listening enjoyment the 12.1 is it. The 12.1`s are closer to my coveted modded D220`s and the D320 is a more mid bumped speaker.
I’d like to hear a comparison between the 12.2 and Polk R200
thanks, hang tight, noted, give me little more time ~
Hi, what about in person, how would you compare these speakers?
Would you prefer d320 over 12.1?
thanks, IMO, D320 is still hold the best value in this case. However, final decision is always depending on you....
@@eprojectEllie thanks. Keep on rockin!
This is a really interesting comparison between two current and different small Wharfedales. The D320's really fill out and warm the midrange. The Diamonds by comparison are a bit lean in the mids and emphasize upper treble and lower bass, and seem have a little more definition in those regions. Wich sound best to me varies with the track and would likely vary with the amplication. The more acoustic tracks are more revealed and satisfying on the D320's to me. True tonal accuracy probably falls in the middle of these two designs.
The 12 is a really very neutral speaker regardless its price... the d310 on the other hand is boosted from 10khz - 15khz and has obnoxious peaks and dips (very audible because those peaks and dips are wide throughout the whole frequency range.
Thom, I just saw a frequency graph of the Diamond 12.1's on Joe-n-Tell's demo & review. Maybe not the most trustworthy source, but bro they're very very smooth, almost crazy flat..EXCEPT for a very BIG 3db dip between 1Khz and 3Khz. That's such a long dip in the heart of the vocal region that it almost doesn't matter how flat they are everywhere else, they couldn't be ultra balanced sounding in the mids. Maybe something in your system is compensating for it, but that graph explains why so many seem to hear it.
Meant Mark. So sorry!
@@williammiebach1798 that dip is intentional, it known as the BBC Dip which many english speakers adopt. It gives it the smoothness english speakers are known for.
Well Mark, it's my opinion whether intentional or not, it doesn't make them a smoother or better speaker. A smooth speaker has a smooth response and let's the recording speak for itself. It's interesting to me, if you look at the response graphs of fine English reference speakers such as the current LS5 BBC licensed monitors by Graham or Rogers, the Harbeth LS3 or the very good Wharfedale Linton Heritage, you dont see anything much like that in their response curves.
It depends on the track, D320 the best value in this case / "best value for the buck". The diamonds sounds as diamonds...
9:09 I spot the difference. D320 midrange sounds fuller
맞습니다~그리고 12.1은 고음에서 명확하지 않는 소리가 납니다
the older d320 had foam surround for the drivers, newer models have black rubber type surrounds did anybody notice this ?
also newer models do not have the text on the tweeter where it says vented system :/
@@BrandonAttarDbran i have no idea
Same...
12.1 easily. More refined and controlled
12.1 Diamond wins for me.
lmao D320 sounds like someone is constantly going "shhhh" in the background. Diamond 12.1s are much better.
That room is awful, unless you've changed the mic, or something else in the recording chain. You need to go back to the room you've used in all your earlier videos. That amp is a poor match for both of these speakers too. I'd like to hear them with the NAD 316, or the AXA25 or 35. That being said, the 320 has much better balance here, with the Diamond being too boomy in the bass, and has really sucked out mids, like a Klipsch or B&W. Very disappointing, but it hasn't sounded like that to me in other demo videos of it
thanks for your comments, I will do some acoustic treatment soon... also, I will make other videos for your request..
D 320
not that good imaging the diamond
more details the 320
little dull the diamond
the 320 controlls better the bass
listening this with monitor speakers and senn hd660s
This music at 700hz, hadn't seen it in the past low passive filters and it was also good to have it on my birthday's. Could you please be careful with the amplifier, do not damage the speakers of the volume. Amém and Namasté. @Quantum700 JVCKENWOOD Corporation PORTUGAL USA ❤
