One tip from a famous volleyball player in my country is that you hit the part of the ball where you insert the pin. Hit it flat and it floats. When I tried it, it really does float. I've been using that technique ever since, and the opposing team would always have the difficulty in receiving my serves.
Well, of course, it took me sometime mastering it but it was worth it. 😁
Pitrus Pitrus so just a question when u toss it up how are u supposed to hit the pin if it’s spinning
@@Ghostface756 as much as possible you don't let the ball spin
thats a myth and maybe only was true for old balls
@@1nf3ct3dTT really? I still do that though and it's still effective
@@pitrusparker3573 It literally cannot have any effect. The valves on modern balls are so small and unnoticable in the bigger scheeme that it will not make any difference. It floats because you hit it without any spin thats all there is to it.

Hey guys - I have been struggling with consistency in my serve for ages; tried tossing higher, lower, two handed, tried wall traps, various steps or stances to find a way that would work.. it remained the weakness in my game. I watched this on the bus before an afternoon 2v2 session and I probably missed, 3/100 serves - I am SO happy! This is super simple, straight forward, well explained and easy. Thank you for this channel, also I love that you guys add personality to your videos, you made it really fun and entertaining to watch while delivering great value. You have a new subscriber and a big thumbs up :)

Bruh, beginners score like 95% of points while serving
fr, I once got like 9-10 points off my serve in a row
More like lose 95% of points on serving. Be it because they couldn't receive it, or because the server hit the net/hit a home run.
Whenever you get to play against a team with a beginner on it you can feel it in ther eyes they won't receive a single serve.
(I don't recommend targeting that person unless it's a competition, failure gets in people's head and they might never want to play again)
It’s true
As a beginner before, 90% of my scores are from my serves. I once ended a game from serving. I got 5-7 points 😂😂😂

What do you guys think about the importance of height on a float serve. In my experience the best float servers contact the ball very high and it adds different movements on the ball then most float serves that as a receiver I haven't seen before.
Not sure about beach volley, but in indoor you always serve float with a jump, so the ball starts its fly high as high above the floor as possible.
Two different ways to use that hight:
- you serve jumping into the playing area, and you hit the ball so that it flyes downwards from the very beginning.
- or you serve standing a few steps from the line, and that gives the ball time to swerve left and right, and if the serve is done perfectly, the ball would fall down just as it crosses the net. This type of serve is common in women's volleyball, and it really is hard.
Working on the rainbow serve!

I wasn't planning to watch a float serve tutorial because I've been watching Risa Sato a Japanese member of Creamline team in the Philippines she has a hard and float serve but here I am to make sure that I'm getting it right ;

The Squat and drop is to help with accuracy of the toss. its easier to make it consistant with a more mechanical movement
You guys always make me smile. Ps- with someone as tall as Brandon, don’t try the high deep serve, he’ll have more issues with an unreadable short serve.
a good float server usually have grins as deep as the grooves on the volleyball he's holding
Thanks for you
thanks for watching!
Been doing float serves since I started playing. I throw it up a bit high to freeze the team in anticipation, and am coordinated enough to judge where on my hand I want to hit the ball. This has lead to a serve that looks almost the same each time, but moves differently depending on where I hit the ball on the hand. I've gotten good enough to put side spins and front spins on the serve, and by the reaction of other teams, its really tough to navigate. It's a very unorthodox method, but I haven't had anyone on my team complain, nor an opposing team feel comfortable with my serves.

best advice i was always hitting the ball will my finger and it loss accuracy and hit the net thank u soo much

Hi there!! Thank you for your tutorial videos. I am speeding up my way on volley beach to become a heroe :D this video is very illustratative because up to now I had been told I have to actually hit the ball with the palm of my hand instead of the heel. Funny enough any time I would do with the heel of my hand, the serving was going just great. So I will keep it that way from now :)
One clarification you are saying that our hand needs to be wide open but flexible instead of hard, correct?
Same here, I can't get it to float or to go over the net with the palm but with the heel I'm managing to almost get no spin
“Give me a thud”
Him: PWUMM
I was always taught to float serve with a slight indention in the palm of my hand, so I can create a pocket of air behind the ball... As opposed to hitting it with the heel of my hand. Thoughts?
Interesting! Gotta try that out! :)
Just experiment and find out what works best. I have seen people teach the palm of the hand, but I personally find that when I strike it with the heel I get the best float serves with the most aces.
I do the same but the valve of the ball facing me. I can contact the palm of my hand with the valve it gives a heavy flow and the ball goes side to side seeing from the opposing team.
@aeneas4dido We love this answer!!!
@cory Our first question would be, if your goal is to make an air pocket, then what does an air pocket do to make your serve better?
i literally cant get my float serve for the life of me
omg right i have tryouts today and tomorrow so im watching these to help me
keep practicing!

Same here😭
Toss with no spin, it's ultra important!
the best floats always go out istg
hahaha take a little power off of it!
I literally just came back from my first training (I'm a beginner) and the guys told me that I should touch the ball with the center of the palm when serving, but it's not beach volleyball, so now I am confused could you guys help me.
I was also thinking they say that so it doesn't become a bad habit when attacking etc but I don't know 😩😩
Am I just overworking my wrist or is it my technique because I practiced my serving for like 2-3 hours for the first time and now I’m having trouble moving my wrist in certain ways and it feels weaker
Good advice but why not just camera work from the side and serious passing/reception?
So I’ve gotten incredibly good at a standing topspin serve. It is a very fast serve that I can aim perfectly and has a lot of topspin so often receivers hit the ball backwards when receiving. I play for a middle school indoor club. Should I keep doing this or should I work on bettering my normal float serve? Or should I just go to topspin jump serving already?
Usually float is better from what I've seen, unless you can keep improving your topspin making it faster. As you improve other teams do too so it gets easier If you keep it at the same speed. Really you can do both, it just depends what your better at and notice is harder for others to receive!
if you are also jumping i think you're golden. if you're standing, i think a floating service is better because on my experience standing topspin is not enought to score on decent defence, but floating can fool a strong defence. A good server know most or all type of services and coose evry time wich one to use
Any chance for a topspin serve video?
Hey great question! Here's a short video we've done on topspin serving: czcams.com/video/I5ZBa42tiIk/video.html. We take you through the basic mechanics of serving and then work all the way up to advanced tactics and how to beat certain types of hitters and teams. When you serve, which part of palm do you use to contact with the ball?
Heel

Did I miss the part where you show a nice float? The nice weird movement a ball without rotation performs? I would maybe call it "basic serves" instead of "float serve secrets" just for people to know what to expect.
Ya there was too much spin
I took lessons from Mark - he’s amazing. Do exactly what he recommends in this video, and you will produce a great float serve.
@@MichaelLiberman-tf2ni never said he can't do it, but he doesn't show one in this video and instead gives pretty basic tips. Don't worry, I don't need help and can hit pretty good floats ;)
@@gabeng7642 some spin is okay
@@carloszorro1140 great hint, thx
I always do a float serve
They are my favorite!
Does this apply to infoor volleyball as well?
There’s no wind inside so it won’t be affected by wind (may be good or bad) but it still should wobble in the air.
I always found it more comfortable to roll the throw off my fingers, giving it a slight forward spin before contact. Is that typically not taught?
Not for a float serve. For a topspin serve definitely, but for a float all that would do is add spin to the ball when you really want it to have no spin so it's less readable. (Disclaimer: I'm not a volleyball coach or anything I just play for my highschool)
Well i Played for 10 years now started in elementary school and that is Not Said to be flexing or anything now but If there is one Thing i learned in all this years then that there is No 100 % right serve. I would say if this works Out for you and you get a nice Float with it even though you add Spin then thats fine but you could try Out to Not add the Spin and See If there is a difference between it and decide in which you use
if you spin you're not floating. if you spin and don't jump the ball hasn't that much energy and indeed a decent defence can take it easier than the float. if the defence is ultra weack ofc you just need to get the ball on their side to score
I am here because of tadshi🤣🤣
when ur serving tho you should always swing through and finish the motion and never stop
depends on what teaching points the player and coach are working on and what the player is struggle with. follow through is not always necessary
Why does it cut out the actual hit of the serve? At 5:20 can’t see how he actually hits the ball
You can toss the ball with two hands too?
Bruh I cant even securely make a spike serve how about doing this ahhhhhhhhh
Having a slow motion video of you hitting with the heel of your palm will be most helpful. You seem to be hitting with your palm instead of the heel of your palm in the video, nope? I am still waiting for my first float serve to happen.😂😭
Great feedback, thanks!! You want to aim to hit the ball with the heel of your palm, but the rest of your palm will still end up touching the ball too. The heel of your palm will be the first contact though, and this will ensure that you keep your fingers out of there.
Oh I see. Thanks a lot for replying. Appreciate all that you guys are doing! 👏👍
