Italy migrant crisis: Ursula von der Leyen is visiting Lampedusa

  • čas přidán 16. 09. 2023
  • The European Commission President has paid tribute to the people of Lampedusa, saying they are doing all they can to support the unprecedented number of refugees and migrants arriving from parts of Africa.
But Ursula von der Leyen says the EU needs to step up its efforts to stop traffickers.
The United Nations says 8,500 people have come to the Italian island just this week alone.
There are now more migrants in Lampedusa than residents.
Al Jazeera’s Harry Fawcett is in Lampedusa for the latest updates.

It’s strange this is happening in so many countries. It’s almost as if the migrations are concerted and organized efforts manufactured to divide people.

If this was just an issue about taxmoney it wouldnt be any problems. This is about a cultural death; and no, there is nothing racist about stating this (obvious fact), its not about skin colour. There are plenty of european black people, but there is a limit to how many can migrate in order for assimilation to work, and that has been reached long ago.

It is time to stop withholding what everyone knows is eventually neccessary and be open with what has to be done.
These waves cannot be stopped if the means are compromised by what people want to believe are the limits. For everybodys sake (including Africa, who needs these people - the most dynamic and entrepreneurial men - to build their future) we need to take whatever meassures we can top stop all forms of illegal migration to Europe.
If this means rubber bullets, helicopters, naval blockades and pushing ships back, then so be it. It is only when it becomes impossible people will stop risking their lives for this highly destructive spiral.

It's already at 4 years maximum in some countries (they are only given 2 year permits IF their asylum applications are accepted, after which their asylum will be reviewed for another two years, during this time they'll have to find jobs or leave) the real solution is not take ANY asylum seekers at all, reject all of them

We get immigrants here in Florida too but many latinos say life is better where they came from, even though they make less $ there and some Asians leave Florida and move to Canada. A woman who works for an immigration Attorney said more people are leaving our area of Florida than coming here. I think they get homesick, miss relatives plus food and housing is expensive. They learn the wages here are not enough or they lose their rental or they cannot get enough welfare. Many of these people will go back home.

Let us put it in very simple terms: this type of economic immigration does not work in the industrialised 21st century. Say one of these young people comes to Europe. Say he has all the good intentions of this world. Say he is as smart and as receptive of local culture as we would want him to be. Now I ask, what job can he do? Say he wants to become a doctor, a lawyer or an engineer. Does he have this education in his home country? Probably not. Does he know the local language? Probably not. Does he a sufficient level of education that would allow him to pursue these studies? Probably not at the moment of his arrival. So this young fellow is either fully supported by the host state for YEARS if not decades before he becomes an active part of society or he takes on jobs that he can work in. But the problem is that these jobs are often menial and our young guy will end up being exploited in his new paradise country, probably living a life more gruelling than the one he was used to. It is a race to the bottom. This immigration just perpetuates a circle of modern slavery into phantom jobs with 0 rights which only damages our modern society.

There are things like education that is missing, values and other things in life that will be a problem once people from 3rd world countries will settle here in Europe. I think the world but now more so the brics alliance has major obligations to help these people and help africa, given that africa is part of the brics alliance. What history has shown time and time again is that people and governments always chose money over people, it is the reason why there is war, famine and 3rd world countries! If the brics alliance has any values for life, they can no show the world that they want to help africa and be responsible for infra structure, jobs and housing! When you make it impossible for people to live in their own countries(by destabilizing them and funneling out all their resources) that’s what you get. People are following where their gold and money and diamonds have been going for centuries. Plus all your grandfathers arrived on ships so what’s the problem 😂

  • Art Station
    Art Station Před 7 dny

Numbers are not an issue. 7,000 people is an insignificant amount of refugees, easily housed in any rich nation. The issue is only about skin colour. The crisis is only a crisis for those refugees and for those who cannot tolerate taking them in. The solution? Give each refugee a substantial allowance, enough for them to live in any rich country in the world. If they choose to return to their own countries, they bring with them sustenance and will no longer desire to leave, since they can rebuild their communities. If they enter any rich country of their choice, that allowance will go back into the local economy. "Crisis" solved. Now of course it's one thing offering this solution and another thing entirely getting those with the money to hand it over, and so, until better stewardship of the world's resources is undertaken, this will continue to happen in increasing numbers and NOT to plan, but for real.

So u think there are 7000 free apartments in any country ? Of course they will live on social benefits. What they should work without knowing the language ?

    • Art Station
      Art Station Před 6 dny

@geranienbaum Much more than 7,000 empty apartments exist in any given rich country. I'm not talking about social benefits. Instead, we're talking about enough funds to enrich the individual and thus the community into which they settle, so that biases and partiality, which cause strife, are offset.
They could take that money and return and rebuild their own countries.
Look at Poland! She sent millions of economic migrants to Britain in the early 2000s. They set up shop, siphoned remittances back home and now Poland enjoys an economic miracle!

    • Annamia
      Annamia Před 6 dny

@Art Station then why many countries have a housing problem ? It means the migrants should get a big sum so they have money in hand and can settle wherever they want .For instance 50000 Euro ,so they can live a good lfe and also send money home .

    • Art Station
      Art Station Před 6 dny

@Annamia Countries have a housing problem because of greed. There should be no housing costs beyond the means of any person. What we're talking about is both redistribution of wealth and a change in attitude. Until this happens, iniquity will continue to persist. You'll have nations complaining about housing shortages, when millions of properties sit empty.

    • Art Station
      Art Station Před 6 dny

@Annamia You can't just give them the money in one go. Even the most innocent person can get carried away, not to mention the vultures who will appear suddenly to finesse that money. It has to be done in a structured way. At first, the allowance should be weekly to cover emergency concerns. Then later it should become monthly, so that people can develop structure in their lives. At some point, once they're on their feet, offer them a continuation of this charity, or a substantial lump sum if they will agree to return to their country or choose another port of call.
