    For businesses that lack loading docks and residences, use high-capacity trikes instead of trucks or vans for deliveries in such a dense city with little to no parking spaces. Yes, trikes have a smaller capacity and may need to make multiple trips, but they’re allowed to pull over on the sidewalk without any trouble.

    • @JamesWilliams-fx6xg
      @JamesWilliams-fx6xg Před 4 lety +5

      You clearly don't run a business in the area. I bet you would change your notion of restriction if you had to pay your workers to work or sacrifice your time after business hours to wait for deliveries that move throughout the course of normal business hours. But this really explains why personal vehicles shouldn't be driven or parked in commercial areas additionally served by mass transit. This would allow commercial vehicles the availability of space to park and not impede bus lanes. It's crazy to me that people often lack simple common sense to any of this.

      Does NY follow the “solid white line is a curb you can park on” standard? If so park in the center lane, open your doors into the bus lane, throw out some safety cones and a safety spike strip into the bus lane...
      Double the impact on traffic, increased delivery driver safety, bus lane is not obstructed by your vehicle and as such can’t be cited by the ABLE system, bus now has to merge over 2 lanes, seems like a win/win/win.
      Even if they don’t follow that standard, at least at that point it takes a patrol officer(or possibly parking enforcement?) to issue the citation instead of the bus.

    You want to talk enforcement. HAH! I saw the MTA board have a silly discussion about fare evasion. The conversation literally went nowhere. They talked in circles about fare evasion and in the end offered no solution. Anyone busted for fare evasion is not going to pay the fine, thats the bottom line. Norman Brown brought up the most interesting point. If a fare hopper gets busted they can simply make up the fine by continuing to hop for days until the fine is made up for thru fare hopping. For example someone gets busted for fare evasion. They pay the 100 dollar fine. The next month they fare evade without getting caught. Thats over 100 dollars they saved simply by fare hopping. MTA I do not know what the solution is but I only see fare evasion rising in the coming weeks, months, and years. As long as people know they can get away with it. By the way I just saw a two fare hoppers this morning. One at the 40th/Broadway entrance and one at Grand Central and what a shock not one single policeman or MTA employee around.

Eliminate personal vehicles from parking along commercial corridors where the bus lanes run... It's looking good on 14th Street now. The obvious? Don't be a moron and block a bus lane. If you have to turn onto a side street, do your job and figure it out. You're on the clock. Most people doing deliveries only double park because it's convenient... you still run the risk of getting ticketed. Some people just don't work smart.
