  • Talk’s Julia Hartley-Brewer is joined by chair of Migration Watch UK Alp Mehmet as estimated net migration to the UK stood at 685,000 in the year to December 2023.
Some 1.22 million people are estimated to have arrived in the UK in the year, while 532,000 are likely to have left. This is down 10 per cent from the year before.
Mr Mehmet slams the figures, saying the Government has not got a grip on legal migration.

Yep, that claims been dismissed so many times now - the reality is immigration costs us more when individuals stay than the benefits we get from it.
The only people who benefit are business owners who get cheap labour, and universities who overcharge foreign students for subpar courses.
Don't get me wrong there are some highly valued people who come here legally - the problem is the bench is set so low the majority aren't really that valuable to the country. It was laughable for example to see many kick off when the change took place to the amount a UK individual had to earn to bring non UK resident to permanently live in this country... Like why should you be able to bring people to this country whether they are your family or not when previously the wage boundary was so low - you couldn't even afford to support yourself on that wage, let alone other people.
