The fact that I almost bought the mk1 a few weeks ago but decided to hold off for a bit and now the mark 2 shows up must be a sign 😂
I almost bought the mark 1 a day before it was announced. I ended up buying the mark2 within the first hour it went on preorder. I feel where you’re coming from.😂😂
But the question is whether the new version is worth 1/3 more for most people. Probably not. I had the first version, it's pretty solid lens, not much improved in v2.
@@USGrant21st I mean if you own one it’s not really worth it unless you really a zoom in freak. Although as in my case that u don’t have a 24-70mm this is prefect and just need to save up more. Currently I’m rocking a 16-35mm gm and a 85mm 1.8 and I want something in the middle
Something is wrong with your old lens. Mine isn't that soft and Dustin Abott also did a comparison, where the results were way closer.
I agree! Something is off. pictures from Sigma 2470 M1 clearly lack definition here and are soft, which I find absurd because he also used a tripod.
My Sony SEL2870 kit lens performs better at F8 than Sigma 2470 M1 shown here under low light :'D
I previously owned Sigma 2470 M1 and tested it in the night to photograph roads and cars. at 100% zoom and lower light levels than this one (4s shutter speed) I could read the parked cars number plates without softness.
P.S: I returned my initially bought Sigma 2470 M1 because it was simply expensive 2 years. Now I bought it again on discount because I simply loved it back then.
love your vids Mr north borders
Great lens review Sir Michael! Direct and to the point with concise and thorough testing to support your claims! With a chuckle or two throughout, I am amply satisfied. Good day to you.
I was having a bad day untill North Borders uploaded, now its a good day.
What a wonderful day!
What do you mean? Now I want to throw away my OG 24-70mm and get the version 2 with money I don’t have 😂
Hope you are having a shit one
Not much of a gear head, but Mikey G showing off the lens and getting straight to the point was that extra spice.
Best review yet of this lens! I’ve got one preordered, just waiting now😊
great review! good real life tests
This was the best review for this lens I've seen, and I watched many of them. 🔥
great stuff as always, also love your subaru
what do you mean 2mm isnt a huge difference 😳
2 Nano Meter would've been massive
What a lens! I am gonna look for this!!
The video that I was looking for! 🔥🎩👌🏼 10/10
hella nah sony is way better, way more accommodating, and frankly just a better product. used a sony lens on my STARLIGHT music video, hands down insane.
looks like you shot it on iphone bruh
In Europe and the US the mk II is even more of a no brainer since the difference is only about 100 Euros / Dollars and the gm II ist literally double the Price (here in Germany its 1190/1300 and 2400 Euros for mk1/mk2 and gm)
Not true, in US the original lens went on sale for $900, it's $300 less than the new one.
gotta say that wrx is looking awsome
other YT reviewers say same optical formula between versions.
Mk2 is slightly sharper if you zoom in at 1000% who the F does that? No one unless you are doing a lense review lol
Selling mine for the Mk2 before my trip this summer!
I have been waiting for this kind of amazing review, welldone 👏
I was about to buy the mark one when i heard the rumour that mark ii is come and i have waited . Now i am even more confused as to which one to go for as the mark one have reduced so much in price . I dont know whether the mark ii is worth paying more for 😂
I just got the new Sigma 70-200. This is definitely on my list to get next.
I would love to see how this and the sony mk II stack up with photo and video, especially with their $1k difference
Please do sigma 24-70 ii vs sony 24-70 ii vs tamron 28-75 ii for a future video!
What are the best settings for keeping focus on a moving subject? Do you use back button focus to lock on and one of the tracking settings?
I need a lens for video. Should I get this one or the panny 24-105 F4 (lumix s5iix)?
YOU definitely ruined my evening 🤣 Seeing this video right after having to buy the "new" Sigma 35mm f1.4 DG DN because my A7S3 simply didn't wanted to S-AF in photo mode with my first Sigma 35mm f1.4 DG HSM, is pretty depressing! One can not simply keep up with all the upgraded gear that's coming out if videography or photography is your hobby and you're not making any money out of it. The results the MkII gives you look absolutely GORGEOUS though!!!
Yeah dude i am getting the Sigma 24-70 for Canon. Great lenses and just as epic as OEM
Sad the mark 2 doesn't have an option for canon, I get that the RF mount isn't open yet but not even EF, wish I had the money to change systems sometimes lol
How much do you reckon could be a good price to get the mark 1 second hand?
Crazy interesting results compared to other youtubers. Probably the only video showing that much of a difference in sharpness to the MkI.
Picked up my MkII a few weeks ago. First full frame lens and camera
Please make a comparison with the Sony lens 24-70!!
I have first version and zoom ring is total crap, its very tight and its not possible to zoom smoothly. How about zoom ring at version 2 is it tight?
USD the mk1 is $899 vs the mk2 is $1199, is the $300 difference worth it? Since I have neither lens, I’m looking into a standard zoom and the “new” price (on sale) for the mk1 is the same as the used sale most everywhere.
ouuu nice sti brotha;)
Please do Sigma 24-70mm MK2 vs Sigma 28-45mm (Image Quality comparison)
hey in your video it seems like the mk2 is way better then the mk1 in points of image sharpness/quality, but in all the other videos I have seen about the new lens, they show example pictures, and there the difference isnt that big in point of image quality ? how that, I have no explanation for this
I wanna this new lens 🎉🎉🎉🎉
How much faster and sharper is the GM II? Its about AU$500 more than the Sigma
Got the mk1 about a month ago... I'm not crying, you're crying 😭
I bought the mk.1 back in February for $800, i got it from the original owner who I’m guessing didn’t use it much because it was super mint. I wish I knew about the mk.2 was around the corner I might have waited. But I’m definitely happy with the mk.1
They do make a 28-75 tamron for Sony but I guess it is different
Try the 17-70 2.8 by tamron, then again I think it's only for APSC
I wish I had of seen this video a week ago before I bought the mark 1
Brooo, noo waaayy !!! This tittle is reaally righttt ! Wow
Yo what happend with that Audi you got???
i got the art lens version my gosh its sharp
Everyone selling their mk1s 🤣
I’d bet for no discount also
I like softer so I think I will keep my MKI. The improvements on the MKII are cool though.
It's not any softer, don't believe the anecdotes, check the controlled measurements.
bought the old one and the dust issue is a bummer but got it cheaper than most of my primes so I cant complaint. 350$ price for a used piece with dust issues. did diy cleaning attempt but got one screw stucked with proprietary glue. Learnt about the glue applied by manufacturers later on after some research. got to buy extractor if isopropyl doesnt work. not really complicated to do even for first timer diy guy bit anxious though.
My photography teacher only told me real photographers use prime lens but never mentioned standard zooms and the money part which probably explains why I don't make any money from my photos. Jokes aside, thanks for the detailed reviews!
Tamron 28-75 g2?
Never had any issue with mk1. My images are sharp as f. Sony 7r3. 14-24mm sharp as f. as well.
This is a bad time to be shooting Canon....I haven't seen an EF version to be adapted and they ain't opening the full frame mount for a while. Which is a shame because this is my favorite focal length to use. I love my current Sigma 24-70 EF lens. I have my EF to RF Adapter permanently on it because I use it so much.
I just order my mark 2 yesterday and i sold my mark 1 today on eBay
The Mk. 1 for me was pretty sharp 🥲
For some reason, my old sigma is as sharp as the mark ii lens so i was not upgrade. Btw good comparasion keep up ❤❤
thanks for making me feel bad about having the mark 1 sigma 24-70 :(
Didn’t his Wrx get totaled?
Wait for upcoming 28-45mm 1.8 by sigma.
my mk1 went down in value from £1069 to £779 overnight lol.... weirdly the new lens is only £1290 here in the uk
fml and now im sat here editing my Fanatec GT world challenge pics with the 24-70 i used to shoot them 😭
Do you use a 24-70 much ?
4:27 Me: Oh shit!, My wallet oh yes :D
Just a heads up for fellow Aussies, the Mark II is only $150 cheaper than the Sony GM II. For $150 more, you can get more FPS and focus breathing compensation (for cameras that support it). Won't be worth it to majority of people but wanted to throw this out there
Yeahhhh members first 🫡
Sigma masterraceeee
where is the R8?
The fact that it's half the price of a G master while being the same quality, maybe a tiny bit worse in video autofocus is insane...
my god.. I just bought the Mark one three months ago...
As an owner of the original Sigma 24-70, it kinda hurts. But I'm still more than happy with it🐐
Tamron 28-75 2.8 g2 for E-Mount?
Very compelling for current $699 price. And it's a lot lighter too.
Thoughts on the tampon 35-150 2-2.8?
2nd this, tried out the lens myself briefly, but id love to see a proper comparison
These are very different lenses, no point comparing them.
Guys, repeat after me: "I don't need another lens."
"I don't need another lens."
"I don't need another lens."
"I don't need another lens."
I have the 14-24 and the 70-200. I just cant.
Wheres Faye??
How does it compare to the 28-70 sigma?
I had Sigma 28-70 at the same time I had 24-70. The former is much softer and lower in contrast, but both produce nice images with good bokeh, I wouldn't hesitate using any of them. The only reason I gave up 24-70 is because it was too heavy and no fun to use.
I brought a new 24-70mm just 1 month ago😭
Curious, what's the shutter count on your A7RIV? @northborders
With what camera? Sony a7iv?
He uses an a7riv
weather shield both??
Come on man , the 1st one was a dust magnet . After a walk at the park ,
the glass inside was full of dust dots.
If the new one is the same , it will be a big NO.
If only car batteries held as much juice as a camera battery!
I wish I had sony 😢
erm.. what the sigma
Its release is greatly undermined by Tamron dropping 28-75/2.8 G2 price to $699 and Sigma themselves dropping the price of the original version to $899. The new lens retails $1199, i.e. $500 more than Tamron and $300 more than the previous version. Both Tamron and old Sigma are equally good optically as the new one, so whether the minor differences of version 2 are worth the extra money is debatable.
Sony on my wishlist :(
I love canon but sony in low light no way it can beat it
I want it 😢
I just got the mk1 like a week ago fml.
Hi there
something is off with the M1 pictures. Even my Sony SEL 2870 has better performance (albeit slightly) under lowlight at f8 than Sigma 2470 M1 shown here. I recently bought Sigma 2470 M1 because I simply loved the lens when I tested it 2 years ago under low light and my pictures were sharper at 100% than the M1 samples shown here! Do not be taken aback by this review, folks!
I'm watching this and thinking "Oh shit"...
Edit: I like to shoot at 70mm damn
when you have a dead battery in a manual car you sit inside and let it roll in second gear which essentially push-starts it! this happened to me one time in a remote location and I was alone so I had to push my car as fast as I could then I hopped in and clutched kicked and it started!
1. Turn the ignition to ON and leave it there. At no point during this process should you turn it to START
2. Shift to 2nd gear but don't release the clutch
3. Release brakes
4. Commence rolling down an incline, OR have a friend start pushing the car
5. At about 6mph or 10km/h, drop the clutch. No accelerator is necessary
6. If it worked the engine will now be running and the car will continue along at an idle. You can safely clutch in and apply the brakes now. If the car shuddered and did not quite start, repeat the steps but reach a higher speed before dropping the clutch
Yeah thanks bro now I am having a shit one
My mk1 is nowhere as bad as your copy. Got mine for $650 last year so not bad value at all.
In the USA the MK1 was $1,099, now the MK2 is $1,199 for us, such a steal for an incredible lens (If I had more money to spend on lenses 🤣🤣)
The Mk1 went on sale for $899 and equally good Tamron 28-75/2.8G2 went on sale for $699.
bruh, i just got the mk1 like 2 months ago............
same...
@@thephobic1393 i got mine for 950€ on amazon at a sales price. So overall I don't think it's worth selling V1 and getting the V2 as i would be paying 300 to 400 more just to get the upgraded version. We good mate, we good! just unlucky
Is it me or do you look more and more Australian every upload?
what the sigma?
It’s a manual and you looked like you were in a parking garage. Just push it and pop the clutch lmao. You didn’t need to freak out about getting a jump.
me a mark 1 owner: fukfukfukfukfuk shitshitshit
It sucks if you own the MK I of this lens but it sucks even more knowing that f*ckin Canon won‘t allow Sigma to produce this amazing lens for their mount. I opted for Canon back then because I have huge hands and I had bloody fingers after every shoot with Sony. Now I have to overpay for every RF Lens (they‘re outstanding but too expensive)
I just find the 24-70 in general to be the most basic and boring focal range of them all. Its not quite wide enough, as well as long enough on the other end.
Sharp is nice but these clinically sharp lenses start to lack character at a certain point.
