  • A tactical look at one of the front runners for the Primeira Liga this season, Benfica. Brought to you by OneFootball THE football app to have: tinyurl.com/Tifo-March
    In six seasons at the helm of the club, tactician Jorge Jesus took Benfica to three league titles, six domestic cups and two Europa League finals. When the time came to replace him, Rui Vitória was the chosen man. The 47-year-old didn’t make many tactical adjustments, taking advantage of the basis left by the previous manager and focusing on player relationships and nurturing youngsters into the first team.
    This lead to two more league titles, as well as the rise and consequent valuable sale of players like Nelson Semedo, Ederson, Gonçalo Guedes, Renato Sanches and Victor Lindelof.

      Glad you support that team, get informed on all the corruption cases that surrounds them in these last few years... Referee bribe (e-mails between so many people from FPF and referee association, illegal vouchers to referees worth hundreds and hundreds of euros that go against the rules), drug trafficking, paid games for opponents to lose, and not only regarding benfica but also its president and so namy people related to politics and even judges. so many things and each month new cases come up. Most recently the case o e-toupeira (toupeira=mole) where its proven fact that Benfica's legal advisor illegally gets inside information in cases of corruption against Benfica that arent supposed to be accessible to them (information coming through those politics and judges that i mentioned before)
      But who cares as long as they win (carried by the system)
      And since so many people in portugal are from Benfica they dont care and justice doesn't work, even when Luis Felipe Vieira is one of the most corrupt people in the country, even bigger corrupt than Pinto da Costa whose cases you've certainly heard of

    Thank you Tifo football for making a video about Benfica!! During the first half of the season the club was not himself because of the turmoil between the big 3 of Portugal (Benfica, Porto and Sporting), also they horrendous transfer and tactical approach, like buying another striker instead of giving more playing time for established and reliable striker( Raul Gimenez) but with this new system they look very confident and remind me of the amazing Benfica side during the second half of 2015-2016 season.

    • @eduardopais1672
      @eduardopais1672 Před 6 lety +7

      Pequenez é viver à custa de glórias passadas e alimentar mitos a cair de podre. Pequenez é o Eusébio aterrar no aeroporto e ser desviado pelo Salazar para jogar no glorioso clube do regime, e assim manter o povinho inebriado pelas conquistas artificiais do clube do regime. Pequenez é cinquenta anos depois ainda andarem para ganhar outra coisa sem ser campeonatos da treta cá na terrinha. Mas,obrigado por tentares.

    • @jfmachado7
      @jfmachado7 Před 6 lety +15

      quando o Eusébio veio para Portugal, salazar tinha mais com que se preocupar... estava uma guerra a rebentar nas colonias, por exemplo... E triste que a propaganda tripeira falseie a historia de Portugal para lavar o cérebro ao pobres de espirito. Continuam a dizer que o Benfica e o clube do estado novo, quando na verdade foi dos mais prejudicados e perseguidos pela ditadura. se o benfica conquistou o que conquistou nos anos 60, em nada se deve ao regime vigente na altura, ao contrario de outros, que passariam pelo menos uma epoca na 2. liga nao fosse a intervencao do estado.

Conhecimento geral, que só mesmo benfiquista com palas pode ignorar. Mas concordo num ponto: havia muito mais coisas com que o estado novo se devia ter preocupado...só que claramente não o fez

Now Benfica are playing really well! Rafa is finally getting better, still 70% of what he was in Braga (he was a monster there), I love to see Zivkovic with the ball, Jonas is just being Jonas, it would be nice to see this team starting the CL group stage again!

    Before anything, wonderful video and knowledge!
    You could talked about Zivkovic situation that was a last case solution that Rui Vitoria had to call on, due to the dramatic and unexpected injury of Krovinovic (amazing player, an outstanding talent in the midfield, sadly he wont finish this season... definitely a player to follow his development) that would be the main option for that position.
    Anyway, as a portuguese and Benfica supporter, i have to say that you let me completely AMAZED with the amount of knowledge that you have shown about Benfica team, mainly about the problems that Rui Vitoria had with the 4-4-2 left by Jorge Jesus, and how he solve them by changing to his own 4-3-3 (this process of changing the 4-4-2 to 4-3-3 has cost a couple league points and also a Champions League group stage elimination, but fortunately is now having success!)

    Wasn't really sure what to expect but for footy dumb guys like me, you done good. Very good work and keep it up. For those who have requested you do Porto or SCP, if you can, I would suggest you do Porto from a few years ago when Andre Villas Boas was their coach. They had an insanely successful year that year and (hate to say it) play some very attractive football. For SCP, I would suggest you try from 2 years ago when Sporting was playing some very good footy until they were ahead by 7/8 points and they decided to show their narcissistic and egotistical ways, even having JJ saying that he didn't consider Rui Vitoria as a coach. That caused Benfica to turn it around, and win the league. Either way, will have to subscribe and keep an eye out for more. Congrats and keep up the good work.

      Your dislike for Benfica (could have used a much stronger word) is your issue, depending on what team you like in Portugal and it appears that you are familiar with the league you might want to seek professional help. Last time I checked I didn't state anything that wasn't true in my OP, if so, then explain where. Luck is part of success, if you want to be a champion, you need to win those games at the critical moments and not fall to pressure. If my memory is correct, that year Benfica won the last 12+ games that they had to, with alot of pressure and sure some very luckily but with merit. Sporting on the other hand, when they were at the top and since their main purpose for being is one-upping Benfica, were having a laugh when at the top, always good to be confident, even maybe over-confident but in sports, don't feed your competitor as it could come back to haunt you. Regarding RV, you say he's not a good manager, that's your opinion, I am not a fan of his either to be honest but there is no way that you show the amount of disrespect that was shown to him at that moment during that season by an organization and simply because they had a very comfortable lead. Differences in mentality I guess.

    • @dbdbhsbbzbz427
      @dbdbhsbbzbz427 Před 6 lety

      Peter Parker RV is doing a great job right now but on his two title wins he wasnt very good.
      That year i dont think it was the pressure that cost Sporting it was a mist of overconfidence and bad luck , Sporting destroyed Braga away in the last match of the season with a lot of pressure.
      The thing that really irritates is the fact that Benfica won being the team that played the worst football and that Sporting side deserved the title.
      And yeah i hate Benfica mostly because of the controversy with referees

    To Add a bit more lf background, the change to a 4-3-3 also came from Seferovic goal drought and the rise o Krovinovic, forcing a change in the system. Krovi got badly injured and Rui Vitória used Benfica's youth João Carvalho but had better sucess with Zivkovic. With Krovi we were playing better, a player i find very Modric like

      I would love to have Paulo Fonseca as a coach in my team(Benfica). He has a very concrete idea of game play based on possession and he has improved a lot in recent years. I like some players from Shakhtar: Dentinho, Ferreyra, Tayson and Kovalenko.

  • @JimSteinbrecher

    mostly accurate, except for a couple of things:
    benfica never really used a flat 4-4-2 as shown in the graphics, it was a diamond 4-4-2 (4-1-3-1-1) with fejsa behind pizzi, and jonas behind the target man (mitroglou). benfica still uses a similar system, with jimenez as an advanced forward, if / when jonas needs more freedom. very rarely, they also use a 3-4-3 system, swapping out one of the defenders for a third striker (seferovic).
    of all benficas wingers, salvio is probably the "purest" one. all the others (cervi, rafa, zivkovic, even pizzi at a stretch) are part winger, part inside forward, and they use this ability to switch position during the match and confuse the opponents. rafa and zivkovic in particular can play equally well on either side of the pitch (while salvio is noticeably better on the right, and cervi is noticeably better on the left - these two rarely move to the opposing flank, although they will temporarily swap positions with the attacking midfielders).
    zivkovic typically played as a winger (either side) until filip krovinovic got injured. since then he has moved to a more central / inside forward position, with cervi and salvio (or rafa) taking up the wings.

    Pizzi is much more relevant/important then many people (especially benfica fans) say. Only is a 4-3-3 he is less visible. He's just not good taking free kicks and corner kicks. Zivkovic, and Cervi take the best corners. Still, Pizzi deserves much respect. Fejsa is a defensive Boss, Jonas a killer. Ruben Dias the tough youngster at the defense. Cervi never gives up, attacking and defending. I miss Nelson Semedo so much...but Andre Almeida is doing just fine. Not so technical though... Hope Krovinovic recovers completely and be ready for next season.

    Benfica hasn't been in a good shape as of late, but since Bruno Lage took over, it seems things have improved, It's just a big disappointment how bad we performed in the champions this year. Anyway, we're close to reclaim the title, I hope we don't lose now, it's a small diference between us and FC Porto.

  • @andreborges73
    @andreborges73 Před 6 lety

    I think they are still relying a lot on individual talent, but that happens in most teams in the world. If you take out Jardel, Salvio that happens a lot in Benfica, Salvio can't play a single 90min game, and Jardel is old and gets injured a lot of times. Benfica has a hard time replacing them, last year they had Lindelof, now they have Ruben Dias but Luisão and Jardel are two old defenders who might be very important but misses a lot of games. Often a team loses the ability to fight for titles when you have a defensive line that changes a lot. And Jonas out of team is the worst nightmare of benfica's fans, i don't think they that having the Seferovic or the Mexican guy (forgot his name) will save their team in games were teams defend a lot, that is every game.
