Classical music had the exact same type of criticisms and skeptics for several hundred years.
Haydn was an innovator for his time. Mozart continued that after Haydn.
Beethoven really went forwards and lots of people didn’t like his music.
(I’m just listing the composers you would know since they are most popular now).
Classical composers especially in the early 19th century would be develop two streams of classical romantic music, based on an “old way” and a “new way” of composing. The argued so much against each other and were just as or way more toxic than charlamange or Joe budden.
Little did they know, both ways sound great to us today and both ways were innovative and new foe their times.
