This was Batman! None of the movies (except the movie they made from the TV series of course) came close! Yes it was kitsch, campy and ridiculous, BUT THAT'S WHY WE LOVED IT!!!!

Remember too that John Astin stepped in for a while as The Riddler as well as Frank Gorshin playing another character: "Mushi Nebuchadnezzar" the boxer who's name Joker and crew seemed to love saying over and over! Haha!

I think you may have confused Byron Keith with Brian Keith. Byron Keith died of pancreatic cancer. Brian Keith died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
