  • Brad Mehldau Trio performing live in Parc Floral de Paris, this was part of the A Fleur de Jazz Festival 1997. It's one of the most amazing live performances of the trio ever recorded. I was lucky to found it on an old hard disk and noticed wasn't uploaded to CZcams yet. Enjoy!

    This performance at Parc Floral is, together with Brad Mehldau Quartet, at the Jazz Baltica, 2006, with guitarist Peter Bernstein as special guest, Brad Mehldau's two best performances in his entire career. Here was performed the very best version of The Way You Look Tonight in the history of Jazz.

    Larry's solo on "The Way You Look Tonight" was intense. That's the great thing about this trio, nobody is really a leader because they are all matched by their intensity and subtlety.

      MAN!!!! i was about to write the exact same thing! That song is the highlight of the concert and i think quite a lot has been written in the comments about Brad's solo on that piece through the multiple reuploads of this gig on youtube. but Larry's solo is quite deep there too! so that definitely shouldn't pass unnoticed! :)

      @@Account-ru8wt the obvious answer is Keith Jarrett, or rather, the way their classical training comes through in the phrasing especially on ballads and the rubato intros. the intro to Moon River. It's quite clear. Many of the phrases, the shapes, the dynamics
      could be mistaken for Jarrett's playing. They both have incredible facility to play what's in their heads, and much of what's in their heads is Romantic and Impressionist piano. Difficult not be heavily influenced by Jarrett if you're a pianist. I've listened to much more Les McCann, cuz i want that funky sound, but probably Jarrett's works its way into my playing more. Mehdlau loves Jarrett, and listened to a lot of his work in his formative years. He says so in interviews.

    • @UkuleleAversion
      @UkuleleAversion Před 3 měsíci

      @@MarkTarmannPianoCheck_it_out This is true but he also clarifies in one of those interviews that Jarrett was more of an 'inspiration' that a direct influence that shaped his style. He talks about the Bremen-Lausanne recording and how it opened up his mind to what is possible on the piano.

    Goede jazz musici nemen de tijd,spelen nooit tot zelden te gehaast.
    Dat gegeven is uit ervaring, hoor dit fenomeen al zo'n 60 jaar.
    Vergelijk dit met Erik Sati ( klassieke muzikant).
    Deze ,toen nog jonge muzikanten hebben het geduld.🎉
    Geeft de luisteraar de ruimte ,om het op te nemen.😊

      Chris Horton people “rush” to praise Larry Grenadier’s bass solos because he is one of the few truly original voices of contemporary jazz bass. A titan of the instrument. There’s a lot to praise. And have you ever seen A Midsummer Night’s Dream? Who wouldn’t laugh?

      Come on guys let’s all hold hands and say it out loud. We applaud bass solos because we’re glad they’re over. Twangy laboured nonsense that, let’s be honest, means little unless you’re a bass player, a whale or some other animal with a love of frantic discordant muffled subsonic awkwardness. Thanks for reaching out to me guys. Anger is the first stage of your recovery xx
