- Stevie wrote a masterpiece, and they took it away from her - more on that in due course! This is a consideration of the song that took its place.
In this episode: we break the band into its constituent parts and put 'em all back together again, to figure out why it works so damn well! We continue in our journalistic inquiry into Who Won The Breakup! And then, my friends, we dance.
You all know I love a good bop, and this ditty bops with the best of 'em. Perhaps not my most meaningful commentary, but boy, is it fun to say out loud. I recommend it.
Happy Fleetwood Friday, folks.

What's your perfect pop song? Discuss!
One perfect pop song is "Listen to What the Man Said," by Wings. It's slick, super-catchy, and has one of the best saxophone solos of all time! Also the backing vocals are fantastic.
‘Maggie May’ by Rod Stewart is I think a perfect pop song.
It's not my favourite by any means, but I think maybe the perfect pop song is Uptown Girl, in so much as absolutely every moment in it is hook.
I would like to shout out my perfect pop song in 5/4: the absolutely delightful Windfall by obscure 1970s band Offspring, who look like a very pleasant bunch of lads.

Happy Together, by the Turtles. Starts in minor key, switches to major for the chorus. Irresistible joy.
God Only Knows - Beach Boys - transcendent and oh so beautiful
'Rumours' is one of those albums that will sound good for decades I think. Like The Beatles best albums, the intersection of songwriting, performance, energy, and production seems just flawless in so many areas.
Whenever I have the chance I always want to insert a rave review of 'Go Your Own Way'. For years (especially In the days before everyone had portable music players), that song would play in my head while running. The rhythm is so varied and catchy that it adapts to any running rhythm and even lets you vary your pace with a new burst of energy when you start to flag. A (magically) endlessly energizing piece of music, that makes you feel so alive, strong, and joyful. 🙂
Huge fan of some of ABBA’s stuff, like Mamma Mia might be my favorite pop song
Very refreshing and delightful channel. just discovered it and subscribed. Best wishes.
"stevie wants the best for the person she is breaking up with!" is an applicable line to 1977 or to 1987 or even to 1997 but taken into the 21st century, it is just something that produces howling laughter. lindsey earned his spot in that band. getting away from her whatever the cost means lindsey won the breakup!!!
I never thought of this era of Fleetwood Mac as Pop Rock at all. I thought of it as a return to straight Rock and Roll, as in the 50's.
Awesome
I really enjoyed the Mac back in the day, and saw them in an on-the-green concert while at UCStaBarbara in '77, but always felt that they were pop-rock fluff in the midst of the prog-rock explosion...
But Nancy, stylin' in mom's whirling disc top, even makes pop-rock fascinating! Thanx
I love Fleetwood Mac SO MUCH. Thank you for talking about Fleetwood Mac!! :D
omg you have 3 other videos on them, i didn't realize! now i know what i'll be listening to when i am shelving books tomorrow :D
Thanks for explaining and demonstrating the Pentatonic Scale, that was really helpful! This is a really fun Buckingham/Nicks song, they really made great music together. Excellent video as always.
Now, THERE'S a supergroup we have to bring together once we figure out time-travel (or necromancy):
Holdsworth, Peart and Squire
Hard to pick a single perfect pop song, but I always had a soft spot for Care of Cell 44 by The Zombies !
Tremendous song indeed- the entire album is amazing!
The perfect pop song? That is a tough question. The one that comes to mind is Sir Paul McCartney's "Silly Love Songs." PS: The Muddy Waters insert was inspired!
i do know A perfect pop song and it might be A favourite, fontella bass RESCUE ME and on the b side of this fantasy 45 it'll be the ronnettes BE MY BABY. poptastic.
I LOVE Rescue Me. I was going to mention it in the Grass Roots ep for the similarity in the bass line, but I'd said rather a lot by that point. 😬
geat vid! youve got a new subscriber:)
Welcome aboard!
Perfect pop song….Surrender by Cheap Trick. Well, power pop!
I feel a need to make a less critical comment. I'm finding this channel to be very informative, and very well researched. Okay, then. For a perfect pop song I choose "My Only One" by the Indonesian band Mocca. Arina Ephipania is sunshine on steroids.
I love a good recommendation. I'll check these out, thanks
Check out Josh Turner and Katie Martucci's brilliant cover of this song!
Perfect pop song is just a tangy question. So tough! hm! I do believe ABBA is as close to the perfect pop song/s as we'll get. But my others that come to mind:
Prince, Avicii, The Chainsmokers, The Bangles, Taylor Swift, Beach Boys, Blink 182. But it's such an impossible tangy question haha hmm oh gosh
Excellent and varied answers!
you should have gone for the swear there was a nice alliteration available there! some good mining for the details in the track: the rhythm guitar is clean.
strangely it comes across as a jolly ditty but is forgettable and...
🙎 go on you were saying
saying what
🤷 about the song for cryin' out loud
... what song
Red Rubber Ball by the Cyrkle. Why? Because it’s not a rock song, not a folk song nor a country song or anything else. It’s pure pop. If you were trying to demonstrate to an alien what was meant by “pop” music, I don’t think you could do much better than that.
