  • Today let's take a closer look at one truly majestic Cichlid that hails from Panama down through Colombia, South America. The Blue Freckled Monster, Kronoheros umbriferus. A true MONSTERFISH!
Dan Sharifi shares his insight on the three, no four forms of this incredible monster cichlid that they work with at Cichlids of the Americas.
Most of us are familiar with the incredible Rio Magdalena Blue Umbee, and some may know the Black UMBEE often called Gorillus Black. How many know of the Panamanian Green form?
    BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE....
Dan is also working with an absolutely gorgeous new form from the Rio Yanacue in Colombia and its INSANE!
The UMBEE KING Chris Craig was responsible for getting this incredible new fish into North America and with his and Dan's efforts we hope to see this incredible monster available for many years to come.
Special thanks to both Dan and Martha Sharifi for allowing me to bring you this footage of these incredible animals. As well special thanks to Justin Holland for several clips of his incredible Rio Magdalena breeding pair including his highly outstanding male 'GUNNER' (R.I.P.).
    Thanks for watching.

Miss, my Rio Mags. In the process of growing out several species of large Centrals, again right now. Gonna, take decades to get the fish back to pre 2019-2022. Feels like, I'm on a treadmill or swimming against a strong current. So, glad to see you are back Brother. Love Jason

I find this so fascinating because I've been to Panama. I fished on the canal on a tour. Would be fun to go back and do some real fishing. I enjoyed the country.

I think you just need to stay there and do a species profile of every cichlid that is on the premesis haha...I could watch these type of videos all day if they feature cichlids, cheers mate!

That would be a solid plan.
We hadn’t seen each other so honestly I was somewhat scattered. The species profile idea came up on the last day so we did about five I believe

Rio mag is my ultimate dream fish, but that Rio Yanacue may have taken the lead spot! I've got a tank ready to rock and I refuse to put anything in it but umbees. My wife is sure trying though lol.

I understand that every species of fish is different That being said are there Any similarities with this type of fish and any of the parachromis I realized I could have.
Laid out this question a lot better, but Hopefully someone who owns this fish understands what I am trying to ask

although perhaps visual similarities on the outside, however theres multiple differences between Parachromis and Kronoheros. We leave that up to the science peeps to argue

rio yanayaku? in Ecuadorand Peru? seems to be on the wrong side of the Andes for any kronoheros types. No Yanayaku in Colombia. looks like a line bred rio mag.

    • @themadaquarist

    • @peterrandall9769
      @peterrandall9769 Před rokem

@@themadaquarist ah I see. Yanacue is just an 'oxbow' tributary of rio mag where it breaks from the rio mag and then re enters the rio mag between puerto de san pablo and Yondo.
