- Belize City is the largest city in Belize and was once the capital of the former British Honduras. According to the 2010 census, Belize City has a population of 57,169 people in 16,162 households.
It is located at the mouth of the Haulover Creek, which is a tributary of the Belize River. The Belize River empties into the Caribbean Sea 5 miles from Belize City on the Philip Goldson Highway on the coast of the Caribbean.
The city is the country's principal port and its financial and industrial hub. Several cruise ships drop anchor outside the port and are tendered by local citizens.
The city was almost entirely destroyed in 1961 when Hurricane Hattie swept ashore on October 31. It was the capital of British Honduras (as Belize was then named) until the government was moved to the new capital of Belmopan in 1970.

That city would improve if the entire sea around it was dredged, and thus the deep sea the pier would be in front, and the large ships up to the cruise ships would anchor in front of the city.

Thanks Keezi. My birthplace. Suggested to my parents to take us there. Went in 94'. My uncle was first one to get killed in my family there in 03'. Closest I will get again. The city and people need renovation. CZcams traveling lol.

My experience in Belize was marvelous because of the People and the wonderfeul food the city of Hopkins and also Beleize city the bus ride to the Big City from Hopkins was excitung and Unforgettable. Mosquitoes Mosquitoes Mosquites be prepared.

I was married in Belize City in 95'. Walking on a Sunday morning don't tell the whole story. Walk around the swing bridge on a Saturday afternoon. If your a tourist, the walk might not be as fun.

Why everyboday says Belize city is very dangerous? Correct me if I'm wrong but this video portraits a very relaxed place although all shops seem to be closed. I wonder if it might had been filmed on Sunday or perhpas I'm wrong and it ain't that peacefull at all keeping everybody locked at home for their own sake...

Pero por amor a Dios es que en Belice no hay pintura, pinten las casas y los negocios eso se ve peor que haiti. El país lleno de jipetas y las edificaciones como si estuviéramos en el barrio mas podre del mundo deben manejarse mejor para que los turista le visiten esas casas coloniales y le dan mantenimiento y puntan las ciudad se vería bella pero así esta muy mal.
