    I have a 1983 G20 van, with rust & pitted holes on the inside fire wall, and around the window. I cannot weld or remove the metal. I've sanded the best I can, what products would you recommend to assist me?? Alex.

    For the rust encapsulator to work do you have to fully encapsulate it by spraying both sides of a panel? I have some stubborn spots where no matter what I do rust keeping coming back and bubbling the paint.

    I've got rust and inside the craters if you will there are remnant decayed metal. If I grind long enough on the spot I can remove said remnant within that pit. The issue I am having is I have a ton of that mess going on. If I were to use this product- fast etch then the encapsulator will those remnants within that pit stop rusting? Can I depend on that doing the trick OR do I have to be sure to remove the rust out of each pit to ensure that it does not return??

      To be 100% sure it will never return, you can cut it out. The next best option is to use a pressure blaster because it should remove all of the rust from the pits. If you can't do either of those options, then clean everything and spray Rust Encapsulator on the area. You can then sand the area, which should leave the Encapsulator in the pits, but not the flat surface. You can then spray Epoxy Primer and apply body filler. Or apply body filler and then Epoxy Primer on top of it.

      Epoxy then body filler.

      Think only way to get to that is the cheap 20 dollar hand held sandblaster and a bag of 80 grit blasting material.But usually At my shop I use asho leave for 24 hrs,spray dtm primer surfacer,and do the body filler over that .Stop the oxygen and the rust won't reactivate.

    It may be a lot of glaze for just filling pin holes but maybe he has other irregularities he's trying cover.

    would this glazing putty be ok to use on a firewall?

    why epoxy primer was not applied to the metal b4 filler

    • @eastwoodco
      @eastwoodco  Před 7 lety +2

      That's how he chose to do the job. But yes, we usually suggest to apply Epoxy Primer, then the body filler.

    I know he said you can use either but why did he use glazing putty over body filler? I thought glazing putty was just for small pin hole not a skim coat.

    You put glazing putty right over the rust pits, huh... Interesting choice.

      i saw that too and then noticed @ 3:19 it says it has stuff in it to stop rust and he etched it at the start to kill it off, but still looks like it has rust in there that needs blasted out or something

    I'm not a body guy but I was wondering why you apply the thin film instead of just scraping off the excess just filling the pits ,thanks, like I say I know diddly about body work

    • @eastwoodco
      @eastwoodco  Před 8 lety

      +Ty High When applying the thin film, it will fill in any pinholes or uneven spots. You then sand the filler, and it should fill in the low spots. if there are any more imperfections, they will be reveled. Then repeat the process until it's satisfactory. Eastwood also offers Contour Glazing Putty if all you need to do is fill in tiny imperfections and pinholes.
