- Peter Travers speaks with Oscar nominated actor Christoph Waltz, star of "Inglourious Basterds", about the awards season run-up, working with Quentin Tarantino and much more. Check out more at abcnews.com/popcorn.
I just love Waltz's charisma in his speech.
+Dan Evans that must be because Landa is not a nazi.
Vincent Fillieule what makes you say that?
He's a detective who just works for them. He said so himself. If anything, Landa is an opportunist who has neither fondness for Nazis nor animosity towards Jews.
SJMJ91 It's hard to believe that he isn't a Nazi. He's got all the characteristics of one.
Christoph strikes me as a really intelligent guy. I have no evidence to support that, I'm basing it purely on how he conducts himself
HockeyPwnsBaseball if you can speak four languages in a movie even if your memorizing it phonetically you can't be that dense can you !? ENJOY THE MORNING!!
+HockeyPwnsBaseball how he conducts himself IS evidence....silly....
+Manbear Cowpig well, basically you think twice what you say before actually saying it. That helps a lot to avoid talking nonsense and make a fool of yourself in public.
this fucker keeps talking in a insulting rude manner like Mr.Waltz was nothing before this role, he was a great actor before he came to US. some Americans are really dumb
Well, he's fluent in several languages, at least 4 that I know of (Italian, French, English, German).
AN ENGLISH , GERMAN AND FRENCH SPEAKING ACTOR WHO CAN PULL THIS HANS LANDA CHARACTER AS HE DID IS A LIVING LEGENDARY MASTER .
+XANDER CAGE you forgot italian ;)
+-Nele- P. I MEANT IN THE MOVIE , BUT THANKS FOR THE INFO.
But... He speaks italian in the movie doesn't he..? I'm confused ^^
...I DON'T KNOW .
yes he did! in the cinema scene, when he speaks to Brad Pitt and Eli Roth who tried to get in the cinema as italien movie producers, if i remember right...
Quentin was brilliant to make them rehearse separately. This character is such a terror, he holds such mystery, and intimidation that it would be a disservice for the other actors to get too familiar and comfortable with him.
First time the other actors met Waltz I bet they were like 0_0
Ya mean "deer in the headlights" look? hahahaha
He is OOZING with charisma - He is so handsome, I LOVE him
Semi Veg Yessss girl!
I love him too, and I'm a straight guy!
He must've been growing the beard for Django
i dont get this "of" thingy some people do.
Tale of the Misanthrop short for Of have in which case should be 've... fair point
It amazes me to hear someone speak my native language more fluently than I....when it is not theirs.
Waltz is austrian, so basically it is his native tongue.
Jordi Thomas not sure what you mean by that, but I looked it up and according to the internet his native language is German
+sigalig damn you ignorant person, you made me laugh.... german (calling it austian german) is Austria's official language.
+sigalig but i got your point, you are talking about the english language, he speaks it better than the natives.
yeah, it seems you have absolutely no idea how language works...
THAT'S A BINGO!
Just bingo
This man is a genius, the mannerisms and subtleties he brings on the screen are one of a kind.
People can say whatever they want about Tarantino, but for me he is the best movie-maker alive.
It's crazy how 2 roles from an actor you never heard of can make him one of your favorites. Both with the same director. Really hope they work together again
When he talks I feel like he's always in character form because the way he talks. His charisma and German accent all fused together draws the viewer in such a way that you can't help but listen.
With his oscar win,it wasnt an if or maybe. He deserved it big time !
Pram De Rooy the only thing about it is that he wasn’t a supporting actor. Hans Landa was the leading actor in Inglorious bastards
christoph waltz is so OMG!
That tab on his shoulder 😂
His mannerisms are so European
Waltz is one of my favorite actors next to Ray Liotta, and Robert De Niro
I love you, Tarantino.
What an honour it must be for an actor if director legend Mr. Quentin Tarantino brags about you to people like Brad Pitt because hes so proud that you are part of his movie!!
How are ya
The reason I watched this movie again is because of Waltz, so Quentin's spot on!
He can convey what he wants to say so much more efficiently by mere gestures and expressions than many people can with words.
somya gupta He even got a perfect style of speech. It's so intimidating.
He is a truly great actor.
MY FIRST FAVORITE ACTOR!!!
How in hell he can speak this eloquent. AMAZING
I am now a huge fan of Christophe. Had never heard of him before but he was extraordinary in this.
watch "Carnage"! (Gott des Gemetzels)
great performance by christoph. he's not only good in tarantino movies ;)
love love his acting
Like Monsieur Waltz here I'm also fond of linguages. Mostly Russian, French and English but also some Italian. They really open you so many doors and opportunities!
Unf, I love him in this interview
Wow. What an amazingly well spoken guy. Very classy.
I laughed so much at 6:15 because he translated "on my life" by "sur ma vie", which means absolutly nothing in french but the way he says it is funny X)
I am French Canadian and it is a phrase that I grew up hearing and it was in-use as done here. Also I remember there was a French song Sur Ma Vie as well. It was before my time, but I was told it was a Top 10 hit on French lists in the late 50’s or early 60’s (I’m going from memory on the date).
i love the way he talks he is so intelligent
I always have this feeling that at least not in any interview with Christopher Waltz I had seen.. Not one interviewer actually hears what Christopher says or try to show so after the first question when he realises this he just stop actually to really anwser. Got the feeling that only people like Tarantino, art makers, and not showbussines, can understand him
Watch old Charlie Rose interviews of Christoph Waltz. They were both good in holding a conversation and not “just an interview”.
I know he's Austrian. But his father is German, which makes him part German too.
So do I :) He's my favorite.
Even probably I don't understand the history of cinema like you do to affirm that, I can only agree since the feeling I've got from your statement rings so true to me.
What a fucking character this guy is haha. Such charisma.
Actually I had seen him in a lot of things (Tatort, etc.). I absolutely loved his Performance in "Du bist nicht allein" (a movie about a German singer). So, he was 'known', but German/Austrian cinema is not as blown out of proportion compared to the American entertainment industry. Also there's less money in it. :)
WALTZ HYPE
this guy is so real
This response is killing me. I fucking love Waltz.
BRAVO!
WHAT A MAN😍😭😭❤️
Congrats Christoph!
1 of my favorite actors and he was a boss in Django unchained
"ONE of the best"... and it is, there is no denying it!
At this rate all you need to wonder about is what Tarantinos next movie will be. No matter what, it'll be another great Tarantino flick and another Oscar for Waltz :)
I hate it when the Oscars nominate a lead actor as "Supporting" simply because they aren't a big star. That's one hell of a backhanded complement. 1996 was the worst for that, when they fucked over William Macy and didn't even nominate Buscemi. Down with Oscars!
I vote for a film with Bryan Cranston and Christoph Waltz, directed by Quentin. Depending on the story of course, but that might call for some fireworks. Ah well, maybe just add Javier Bardem, Philip S. Hoffman and Forest Whitaker and Don Cheadle... Okay, shit, this might look like a cock fest, but of course there should be female and transgender actors in that film as well. Wait a sec, maybe exploring transgenderism would be a cool territory for Quentin to explore. I already know a title: Political Correct. Alright, I got lost in my own sarcasm. Anyway, Bryan and Christoph. And Javier.
(And Philip.)
Bryan and cristoph in the same movie...that would be fucking epic...oscars would go crazy if quentin gives them really great characters to play...maybe a different version of jules n vincent...bounty hunters or hitmen...or just have them fight each other...and have a fucking stare off!!!
Hateful eight was a reunion of tarantino cast through the ages...but i want an even bigger reunion in his last movie...and by big i mean like a 3 and half hour long epic!!!!
Bruh your missing bencio del toro
I wish I could talk like that haha... beautiful lines.
most def!
Everytime I watch an interview with Christoph I feel like he is just uncomfortable. It's like nobody asks what he wants to answer. Nobody talks about what he wants to talk about. A shame.
Social awkwardness is quite a common side-effect of extremely high intelligence.
Look up old clips of Charlie Rose speaking with Christoph Waltz. They are less awkward and interview-ish - more like a conversation.
Christoph is too good for this interview. He should have walked out.
they will do many more
Hes a badass
i didnt even see the other nominees and knew he was gonna win
hey, whats that at the end of the clip. re herse? i don't understand the word.
the word is rehearsed, pronounced like "rehersed"
Bist du Deutscher? Es heißt einfach "proben" aber im Imperfekt.
Sorry if you aren't:(
Österreicher, danke für die Übersetzung!
Kein Problem:)
- lol. "oh, besides 'hello'?"
i'm glad it "was" or "wasn't"? Any one know what he said at the end?
i pity great actors that have to do so many interviews, to the point that they repeat portions of other interviews......shame! but one thing's for sure, Christoff is an amazing actor & an inspiring person!!!!!
congrats on the oscar win, christoph. was there any doubt?
This is not the "high tea" that I was looking for
im from germany and i actually saw some of his german movies :)
and as i said, i was not stunned.
to be fair, there were little to no movies made in hollywood with waltz in it, besides the two with tarrantino
People talks too much trash... This interview is great and Peter is a great person
he told in an interview what he grew the beard simply because he wanted to and eventually it became dr shultz's beard...
lol i'm sure he knew he was nominated
Waltz looks seriously exhausted in this interview. One could he needed some sleep.
I have a theory
I can see how Tarantino and Waltz rehearsing separately influenced on Waltz's way of acting in Inglorious Basterds
Other than being a truly inspiring actor already, the character Landa has mainly one on one dialogues (like the first scene and the restaurant scene with Laurent aka Shoshanna)
You hardly can expect different anwsers, when you are asked the same questions over and over again. Probably the interviewers should think of more interesting and intelligent questions.
I would Love to see Herr Waltz as the Joker guy. I would love to see part 4 release of the Batman. Please someone convince him He is the Ideal replacement of Heath Ledger.
i guess the ideal solution would be less interviews but it goes against the marketing strategy. lol
*fewer
The presenter is a combination of what Christoph Waltz and Hitler would look like if they had a child and it survived the holocaust.
MajorTomKK oh god. Why would you say that.
What a jem he is
I'm pretty sure he said "wasn't"
the interview talks to much
this is the first time seeing the guy doing the interview. is it just me or does he look like a skinny Ron jeremy
Deze acteur speelt niet, hij is gewoon geniaal. Wat overigens vaak het geval is bij goede acteurs.deze spelen niet maar zijn op dat moment de personages .
Supporting actor??
Ahah what a charachter
hahahahahah yeah me too...the MILK was missing!!! dude...ur hillarious
col
I guess so...
Why is he trying so hard to be modest.
ok
he looks like ben affleck
this looks like a sketch with one guy playing both
Weinstein the charmer
Christoph waltz was in Quentin tarantino movies before inglorious bastards -_- why does it sound like inglorbastards was his first Tarantino film in this interview
Because it was?..
Worst part of inglorious bastards was Pitt but Waltz saves the movie
why? pitt was awesome
+InamberI WTF? Pitt does a great over the top Tennessee accent and is funny as fuck. Jees.
I thought Pitt was brilliant!
One of my favourite quotes came from Pitt. "This man wants to die for his country. Oblige him!
That can, in a weird way, be seen as a compliment by you, but really it is just racist.
Well you can't stereotype all Germans as being little Hitlers, lol. I think that's America's problem, we see one person of a different race/culture/country/religion do something bad and then assume all the others are like that.
I hate Peter Travers so much.
Austrian not German.
Not better than the scene it was inspired from.
Which?
@@DarioHernandezFilms I don't even remember commenting on this or even watching this 7 years ago. Sorry...
@@Neuroneos no worries
he was good in this and he is good in django unchained, everything in between, meh.
also, both are very simular acted roles, i will not praise him unless he shows me he can be brilliant in non-tarantino movies too.
Who is this dweeb, Travers?
What an honour it must be for an actor if director-legend Mr. Quentin Tarantino brags about you to people like Brad Pitt because hes so proud that you are part of his movie!!
