Thanks for taking the time to make this video and posting the part numbers. This guide was super helpful.
Someone should fact check me here - but what I have read online is that RTV silicone can mess up the spacing set by the shims that go between the input shaft bearing and front cover. It is recommended to install that gasket dry.
Note that not *all* paper gaskets should be installed dry - I did a GM water pump a few weeks ago and it puked out all the coolant we put in. Reinstalling the water pump with RTV on the gasket resolved the leak.
Any issues after using ultra black on the input seal and front housing seal? I skipped the RTV altogether and have been losing tranny fluid from the weep hole since. Anyone ever provide any feedback privately?
Superb video my guy ✌🏿
Very helpful!
Thanks man, I have an rx8 and the gearbox is pretty similar.
Do you happen to know what the part number is for the ring seal?
DO YOU HAPPEN TO KNOW THE P/N FOR THE SHIM (THIN METAL RING)? GOOD VDO BY THE WAY!
Is the 2002 mazda 6speed take the same seals or just the paper gasket one ?
damn this is old but no 6spd has rtv only 5 speeed paper gasket and no rtv
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's ft lbs / newton meters. Not a secondary ft-lbs torque. (did you break a bolt by chance?) www.miata.net/garage/torque.html
Hey I know that guy!
You're torquing this too high! It's 14 to 18 ft lbs OR 19 to 24 Newton meters not AND more torque
You forgot the metal circle shim piece that goes around on the inside. Oh nvm, you added it at the end.
Wow your videos are painful. You should have put a dab of gear oil on the interior of the input shaft seal. You installed it dry! No real need for rtv with paper seals. And use a flat punch or at least a socket extension to tap in the output shaft seal.
And equalize your audio.
“Don’t remember to add fluid” lol. That was great. Don’t add so much RTV even tho you think you have gouges. Make sure you don’t have gouges first. Also make sure you are oiling your transmission components before adding any gasket. Other than that helpful video. Thank you
