    “I don’t think anyone wants to watch a 45 minute video about stitching a book together.” You sir, are wrong. My autistic butt would LOVE to watch a 45 minute video on the topic if it meant I’m learning something from it!

      @@mindyhall4638 I'm actually going to be going over a entry level of how to attach a cover to a text block in one of the upcoming videos. Some of the more complex ways to do it wont work for a video like this, but the pocket journal I showed at the start of the video is perfect for it!

    Thank you for this vid . I hope that you do make vids showing the other two types of book binding stiches. I am with the other two replies. I also hope you will include videos on the other aspects of making leather books from scratch. I would also ask if possible include where you get some of the unusual supplies like the special book paper at. But even more important what tools that are specific to book making and possible sources to get them. Some of the tools used in our leather crafting will be cross over I know.

      You're very welcome! We have a video coming in the next few weeks that shows how to attach a soft cover to a simple text block like this one. As far as supplies, thats a unending rabbit hole. The two main things you need when first getting started are a bone folder for folding the pages...Weaver sells a great one, and the cradle is very helpful. There are lots of places you can get those. Just look up book binding cradle. 🙂

    Yes, pls make a series ;) Do You trim pages after binding?

    • @DanielReachCreations
      @DanielReachCreations Před 6 měsíci +1

      It depends on the style of book and the look you want. I really like a deckled edge, so a lot of times, I will tear the edges of mine. Trimming the edges can be really tough without the clamp to hold it still.

    I'm working on a set of leather vallet trays using material that is about 6-7 oz. in thickness. After punching holes, slicking the edges with trag, and dying with oil-based dye, I tried to bend the edges to form 1.5" walls, but the surface of my leather cracked on the exterior of the bend. What could have caused this, and how can I prevent this from happening again. I am very new to leatherworking, so any advice is appreciated!

    • @DanielReachCreations
      @DanielReachCreations Před 6 měsíci +2

      My assumption would be the leather was either too dry, bent too quickly, or both. It's hard to say for sure without seeing the project, but most of the time you want the leather damp to wet when bending it that much.

    What type of paper works best for this project?

    • @DanielReachCreations
      @DanielReachCreations Před 6 měsíci +1

      It depends on whether or not your making something that needs to last for 100 years, or if you're making a something more like a personal journal. If it needs to stand the test of time, it should be acid free paper and acid free glue, otherwise you're free to use whatever you like.

    I've taken up book binding. Your stitches seem way too loose. I realize you are trying to keep the simple, but too loose will cause issues. I would like more info on leather covers making, at I've got the text block down, and can easily do a paper cover.
