Using Chat GPT 4 to extract text from obituaries

This is a short vidoe to highlight the potential of using Chat GPT 4 to extract text from images of obituaries. Obituaries have a lot of rich information for family history research. We hope to use tools like this to help make image collections held by historical societies easier for individuals to search.

GPT4 also does a good job transcribing and translating foreign language documents such as old baptismal and death records.
Regarding transcription inaccuracies, try using a voting machine approach with multiple agents e.g., one to transcribe, one to translate, another to verify, etc. It requires some orchestration but works pretty well.

If this behavior could be fixed, it could solve the issue with OCR struggling to properly read older newspapers where the text is a lot smaller; could potentially help with poor scans as well
