Comicsgate Banned Again: Another Controversial Book Disappears From Indiegogo and Google

- Unfortunately, Indiegogo continues to effectively shadowban more campaigns by the day. The latest victim is the new Comicsgate Magazine Rok!t. It's getting very hard to ignore that this only seems to be happening to CG-related books, such as Shane Davis' Inglorious Rex 2, Jon Malin's Graveyard Shift, Mike Baron's Private American and Patrick Thomas Parnell's Johnny Phantasm.

Shadow banning your costumers who run campaigns is insane. Now’s the time to find another crowdfunding site.
It feels like people in Comicgate don't want to admit that IndieGoGo is screwing with them. I know IndieGoGo used to be the favourite child but it's time to admit when that child has taken the wrong path. The lack of communication and the shadowbanning of many CG campaigns is just ridiculous. I know some people have no other choice but to use IndieGoGo but what people need to admit is IndieGoGo can't be trusted 100%. Actions speak louder than words and so far all their actions are against CG.
I understand the hesitation, with so much money on the line, but yeah, definitely time to divorce ourselves from the notion that IGG is ‘our’ site. Just another corporation like all the rest at this point.
@@Michael_Bancroft What about top unfulfilled campaigns?
@@Michael_Bancroft Is there a chance that Young Rippa might shed some light on building the kind of framework that his site and distribution have? Once everyone has their own websites there can be an aggregate news site that has updates on each campaign and provides links to the sites.
I hope Shane has moved on from the “maintenance issue” belief he was hoping for and is now in full F U IGG beast mode
For me this is feeling less and less like a glitch....and more and more like an attack....It's been over two weeks still no response from Indiegogo after several emails.
Giving 9% of your funds to Indiegogo while not receiving any of Indiegogo's traffic is messed up. It's best to fund your comic book on your own website if you aren't going to get any traffic from Indiegogo.
It’s 5%, but yes, if they’re not bringing anything to the table, you have to wonder what you’re getting for your fees.
We're trying to find any comic books that aren't related to Comicsgate that have also been shadowbanned like this. If you're aware of one, PLEASE share it.
Thanks for helping out Steve Dye (never thought one of my tweets would show up in a video). DM me on twitter to share your email address and I will forward you an email I received from Indiegogo that contains info every creator should know.
looking up Indiegogo on Glassdoor makes it sound like they are running around like chickens with their heads cut off this year. Lots of management upheaval.
Every mod on streams (even Jabba’s lazy ass) better be posting links and everyone better be tweeting them out. This is war
Yeah Inglorious Rex 2 doesn't even show up in Google anymore, even if I type Indiegogo. Just the first campaign shows up. It was showing up before.
In regard to Google, it uses web crawlers that follow links to build search results. (among other things) If Indiegogo gets rid of links to certain Campaign pages, they won't be indexed and are not searchable. Sites can also put a nofollow command to tell search engines not to index a page. Has anyone found this on shadow banned IGG campaigns?
Yes, some of them have "noindex", JDA did an article and Danger Vanessa did a stream about it.
We shouldn't be so naive to think that this isn't intentional. In my opinion, Indiegogo is without a doubt doing this on purpose to hit CG where it hurts. We were made aware of the site's changes last year and we speculated then what it could mean for the crowdfunding market. This is just another step in their blatant disregard for CG's books. We should start encouraging more and more creators to do what Airith and Mandy are doing. It's the only way to keep it going. Indiegogo is done.
They've joined the likes of Patreon a long time ago.
Did anyone ever calculate how much Comicsgate related comics has brought in earnings to Indiegogo, even roughly speaking?
I hope - if this treatment stands - that Comicsgate will find another platform to publish on, preferably one they all share.
It is a substantial amount for us....25% that's a lot
CG campaigns have collectively raised over $15M on IGG. I think? They take %5 (I have heard that it can be more for In Demand products?), so that is ~$750K. Maybe closer to $1M if it is more In Demand.
Graham Nolan tweeted that we made over 15 million
Bet Eric July saw this coming. Great foresight.
Eric have enormous audience. It’s easy to him to dwarf any other comics creator. Also he has support of the fandom menace - of cause he can allow himself to create his own publishing site.
@@snarkboojum9949
I doubt it's very expensive since a lot of other smaller indie developers are starting to do it, as shown by Mike in this video.
Eric doesn't trust third parties getting involved with his product, which is wise.
@@John_Q i dont saying its expensive,
I saying that he can do it because he himself is bigger then igg.
Others(even evs) does not have that capacity. They want to have walk-ins and new people from igg.
@@snarkboojum9949 Stop giving these IndieGoGo lovers excuses. Mandy Summers did it, so forget about Eric audience. When Eric said he is starting his own comic book many people suggested he use IndieGoGo and Kickstarter, then a few days later he changed his mind and said that he might actually do it on his own website and some people gave him a pushback on that. That means even if they could make their own website they wouldn't do it because they have this blind love for IndieGoGo.
They should be using any website to sell their books, along with their own imo. That way they get maximum exposure without pigeonholing themselves to just one storefront.
They could offer exclusive items on their own websites to drive more sales there leaving them with more profit.
I like how "lack of activity" in their minds is a good reason to remove a campaign from searchability, cause that helps people find it and actually be active to the campaign! In a true business sense this is ludicrous, and the only function it serves is to limit sales and thus Indiegogo's profit. These creators might have a joint case against Indiegogo, as they can prove financial impact.
SInce when do you have to EARN your way into Search?!
If all else fails the Search function should be THE way to find any campaign.
Unbelievable.
I can't find a reason for this ongoing. I think there is ESG shenanigans.
Wokefundme has been openly hostile to Comicsgate for a long time now, only reason to put campaigns there is for outrage marketing just like hollywood does, which is dirty as fuck.
Aaaaand indiegogo joins the fray. God I hate when I'm right sometimes.
This has been happening for years. Welcome to the party.
Makes me wonder if this is passive aggressive retaliation because CGers actively warned people about IGG's auto tipping scam?
If that were the case, that would be extraordinarily disappointing.
EVS won’t say what it really is
Time to move on, if possible.
Shenanigans!
gotta fight back and need better collab between promo sites to build a better ecosystem.
100%. It's been a LONG time coming.
It's way past time creators seek out independent methods to promote their work and not rely solely on the likes of Indiegogo, Patreon or even CZcams. People need to wake up and see with their own eyes what's really happening.
did they hire folk from kickstarter?
I don't know if you saw but Ya Boi Zack did a video on this the other day which is a bit patronizing.
yeah, I caught it.
What's the alternative? How did the Rippaverse do it?
He built his own site, but I don’t this it’s feasible that every single creator does that to. Very few creators have the audience to make it work.
@@Michael_Bancroft so then a coalition of creators for the common good of their books getting to market? Following the Rippa model? Maybe with advice from him on how to do it and keep it from being compromised? Definitely keep it from being a corporate entity!
@@Michael_Bancroft I agree to an extent.
Not everyone can pull of what Eric did due to the lack of funds, the built in audience and the means. Even still, I would encourage creators to find some means that works best for them. In this day and age, total independency would be the best way to go, if you ask me. At least, you alone have complete control over your own work.
Searching works much better if you choose comics in the type. The "!" symbol is a SQL problem and might set off a security flag. If I wrote the code I would break it because it looks like a hack attempt. Hope that helps, Michael
Women.
tell me about it!
@@Michael_Bancroft For months!
Is there a support twitter address we could use? Otherwise maybe someone reads @Indiegogo ?
Just the regular one I think, and no one ever responds with it.
