This is why we used to tour, we didn't want to miss ones like this. Special special special. Thank you to all who had a hand in this being available to all.
Amen!!! 🎸🎵🎶🎵🎶🎶🎶🎶🍄
One of the finest out of 122 that I was lucky enough to witness...help,slip,frank,est eyes...Infuckincredible
Didn't miss a Spectrum show during the 80's
Then you win a award for the most quality GD music seen in one venue. The Dead always seemed to bring it for Philly.
I loved that place. And JFK!
I was right there with you !!😁😁😁
WOW...What a great Dear Mr. Fantasy...love love love Brent.
Thank You Thank You Thank You for posting all these invaluable moments.
Brent Dead was my Dead.....Jerry and the band were never the same after he passed on... He was the Magic that turned The Dead into a Phenomenon..was great to see developing and just heart breaking to see it all fall apart....So Grateful for all the Grate shows I saw❤❤❤❤❤
Hell of a set. Wish that i had the opportunity to witness it in person, but as i was born too late, so much thanks to the filmmaker. It's strange to think that a band you happen to record, that video could transcend generations and have an impact on people 30 years down the line. The music will never stop....Thank you for passing it along.
You missed a Grateful Show. But at least you can Hear and see "Some" of what we felt!!!!
#deadinphilly
These Philly shows were golden man...part of my intricate soul for ever
I miss Jerry. Thank you Charlie Miller - from your ears to mine -you've brought me so much grateful dead.
Amen!
Oh I remember this show...as we were making our way in..the Spectrum jumped on its side and rolled Into the sunset like a dime weaving back and forth so dramatically ..next thing ya know we were practically swinging from the rafters..at least crawling on the catwalks...and howlin up a storm.. God Bless The Grateful Dead Philly Shows...We Loved when the Circus came to town , And The Boys Loved playing for our Crazy Philly Love..haha..im remembering so much more as I listen to this❤😅
Nothing like a Grateful Dead show and there sure as hell was nothing like a Spectrum show as you all know.
The beginning of my sophomore yr at Drexel. this run and Brendan Byrne where on fire. each and every second still live in my head! GOD BLESS THE GRATEFUL DEAD!
I saw about 100 shows from 86 through 89, and my all time favorite was 10/16/89 from that Byrne run. Other than I Will Take You Home, that entire second set could have been straight out of the early 70s
How I miss those days Dead at the rectum the electric factory shows were amazing but the shows at the spectrum were events and that last show with Samson and we gonna tear this old place down was one of those moments where you just had to say WOW
This was my first show and even then I KNEW it was totally rocking! Thx so much for posting, I'm in heaven listening to it since I lost the bootleg many years ago. Great show - Thx!!!!!
Dig it man....87 to 90 was just golden....my first was Brents first Philly show in 79... this show was classy
what a fucking great Estimated! Bobby on fire with cool atmospheric pillow cream jams from Jer.
Man I miss these shows. Nothing compares today, not even Phish. No one did it like Jerry
Closest one is Cheese.
everyone keeps trying to get me to like the Dead with John Mayer....im like...you dont understand...nothing against Mayer, hes talented, but its a ridiculous substitution
ridiculous is an understatement. Cheese or Phish not even in same stadium...
i think i was there lol
90s phish was surreal. 03-04 jamming is among their best. Phish 3.0 not so much. First dead show was spectrum 92 at 20 yrsold. I knew I missed the boat but was happy to see 17 shows. 93 jgb at the spectrum was my highlight though.
A great show!! The Spectrum was on fire!!
AMEN!!!!!
Bobby birthday, 10/16 gets all the chatter from this tour. This show does not disappoint either. No bad shows during this time in their career. Really great stuff.
+Dennis Campbell lol on it
10/26 is also a beast. But 10/18-19 at the Spectrum are nearly as good as 10/16. Can't forget 10/8-9 either!!
Amen!!!
I was at this show and it was unreal experience !
it was raining that day, this was just a hell of a run, at the spec..this video is cool...my seat was in the first level in the back of the arena..the place was rocking, and I mean loud, at the end of bucket, Healy had bobby yelling riiiiiiiiiidddeee swirling around in quad, it was unbelievable....hard to believe that was 24 years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday...then the next night just elevated another level...they were that great back in this time....BRENT !
I did that show I don't think it matters where you sit as long as you can hear it they don't wear costumes and put on a invisible show the show is for your ears
@@robertdowney7349 This was only my 2nd or 3rd dead show, I wasn't aware of such crystal clear sound throughout the entire arena..again Healey...
89 was a banner year for GD in Philly. Starting with the epic 7-7-89 show at JFK, (last show at that historic venue and the show that changed my life). Then the JGB show at the Spectrum on 9-3-89, (billed as only Jerry Garcia on the ticket stub). And Weir and Wasserman opened up for the JGB show with a memorable rendition of Blackbird. Then this electrifying run at the Spectrum in October with the rare and only twice played California Earthquake on October 20th, with a segue into Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going On. They were on fire in Philly in 89 and I am blessed to have been able to have experienced it all! God bless the Grateful Dead! 😎
I ess there. Something I will never forget in my life. This is when you could camp (sleep in your car) for all 3 nights. By the 3rd night, the spectrum lot was like a third world country on Neptune. Way the fuck out there. The shows were so tight. Firing on all cylinders. Everyone was ready for this spectrum run and ready for a real good time. The energy and vibe from the crowd and band was special. I'll never forget it. Some of the best times in my life.
Most energetically jacked help slip Frank ever. It's cause of the hair. It's perfect.
I was at this Amazing show!!! Thanks for this Video post. My memory was eight. I Remeber EVERY SONG!!! And the trip i was on. "Gooney Birds" blotter with a Jumbo Jet on it.
This was a very fun show, I have always been a sucker for Blues for Allah tunes, and now the 3rd Help-Slip-Franklin's of the tour, heavenly! What a great tour, so lucky to have seen the entire run, Hampton through New Years! '89-'90 was really the pinnacle of the band (yes, I know they had other great years and I'm not going to argue with anyone about it, but I think the band would agree that after ~25 years they had found a real sweet spot). Who knew that a year later we would have an entirely new incarnation with the tragic loss of Brent just after the Summer '90 tour, they never really recovered, as much as they tried.
very well said!
@Andy Lopus ,of Harrisburg PA ? Bagel & Coffee at Bread Shed ?
Thomas Avery Garran ii
tried? you mean by overplaying a slew a shitty new songs?
Jeff Rogers wow, nice recap, that sure covers that later 90s period. Days Between was a masterpiece that put all those other tunes to shame, it was really the only one i enjoyed. So Many Roads was ok, in a Built to Last kinda way...but i had no use for any of the tunes from that last studio album either. After ~50 shows in the 80s i was pretty much done after Brent died...just felt like Vince was painting with crayons by comparison, he couldnt hang musically. 89-90 was the pinnacle for me, though 83-84 had some amazing stuff.
I had a great time for D and CO in boulder in 2023....but these 80's shows cannot be matched.I saw over 100 at this time....magic. Rip,Jerry and Brent. See ya
Today was my first time hearing this show n wow what a banger very very good show, I love mid to late 80’s Jerry just right on point
On freakin' fire! That tour was outta hand and this show was a standout IMHO. As usual, thanks for posting...and helping me relive my youth!
Amen💙⚡❤️🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🍄🎵🎶🎵🎵🍄🎶🎵🎶🎵
SAW 'EM ONLY 3 TIMES.....BUT I AM SO GLAD i DID.....THE BEST ....
Many great versions in this show, but when they come out of the jam in Cassidy those vocals just hit me so damn hard. Absolute fire!
That version of Cassidy is on Without a Net
Amen!!!
Spectrum was a special place. It was a dive, but the boys never played a bad show here. They always exceeded expectations. Spectrum Morning Dew’s were legendary. Miss that old place and the boys
One really bad show was Mar 17 1992 Jerry just wasnt there
Their most played venue ever
dont talk about the Spectrum that way.. .it was golden man..between the Flyers and the Dead...it was the place to play and we played well
Love Mydland chiming in on "If you get confused, listen to the music play." Garcia looks over like "Hey that was cool."
1:17:21
+Twotontessie Right on! The Blues For Allah tunes at this show are so good...
+Graham Clews They gotta release the multi-track of this one.
I wish Brent played that Hammond B3 in every song.
Yeah, he really was a great player - on that 1st set encore (ease me in 1:01:14), hot damn!!! he was cooking with plutonium the shit was so hot.... nuclear!!!
jpwjr1199 he’s on fire, steals the show.
I see your point - but he was great piano player too - and the electric piano sound from the early 80s has its place.
Everytime I hear Jerry with Wolf, I always ask myself, "Damn! Why didn't he stay with that guitar?!"
I very strongly feel the same way.
Thanks for posting, hot show for sure, especially after The Wheel, ( do need to listen / watch the rest). I was at the beginning of this tour, Hampton and the end, Miami and it was really a great couple weeks of shows
What a second set!!! October 89 is so tight
Spectrum shows always rocked, especially this one. Brent was special here.
Built to last followed by Blow Away! This was such a great show! We saw every east coast show that year!!
My favorite moment is when Brent joins Jerry on "listen to the music play" on Franklin's Tower at 1:17:15 and watching Jerry smile 😊
Amen!!!
Great show I think Bobs metamorphosise in Estimated is just so amazing Jerry just loving it I saw a version live where I sear Bob melted into a puddle during his Prophetering TY TY 🚍🚍❤❤
Coming up on 30th anniversary of this tour! Hard to believe. Great run.
I was behind the stage, my first Help on the Way........Death don't is just sick!!!!
Great show. Thanks for posting... 😎👍
i was there for both shows...had much fun and my fill of music until the nest show.
thank you
thank you for posting
Estimated Awesomeness.
looking back...i must say, i was very lucky to have sen this band as much as i did. Garcia is like a Mark Twain or a Louis Armstrong...an american TREASURE, musically,intellectually,culturally....
I LOVE this whole run. Thank You!!!!!
I love a good Help/Slip/Frank, and this is one of my favorites.
EPIC show... rock solid Setlist. :) thanks for uploading this amazing gem
Yo mark📢👌👍😃
Philly was my home base , the Spectrum never disappointed . Especially when Garcia was playing the Wolf guitar
Mar 17 1992 was a terrible show
I wasn't at concerts until 86 from 88 to 89 the dead ringer Prime I heard a lot of the early stuff on tape and videos 88-89 forgot about it I'll be staying in South Philly Forget Abadit
Love Philly! They always seemed to be on there. In my opinion it was the best of the large hockey arenas. Hartford seemed to have some of that magic too
thanks for this....They were straight fire for this Spec run..
Thoroughly enjoyed this.... Again, thanks man.
Another great addition to the Voodoonola collection. I saw the Hampton Warlocks shows but missed this gem until now.
my 2nd spectrum show. GOAT mr fantasy-hey jude. the entire thing is fucking fire.
I saw every show on this east coast run, landed in Miami, and hopped off the bus. I knew, instinctively, that it was never going to get better than that tour, and I knew I had gotten everything I was going to get out of my little stretch of the long, strange trip.
They coasted at this altitude through the following spring and summer, but it really was all downhill after fall 89.
That's not to say that they didn't play some great shows in the years following Brent's death, but they were never this consistently great from show to show and city to city.
No one else but you angel eyes going to need your support to make it happen hope fully together hope you haven't found someone else that would hurt but if you would half of me would hurt the other half would be happy for you my heart is yours❤❤
Fall 1989 One of the best tours ever from any Fing band
The ending of all this was so perfect ! It sure put a smile on Jerry’s face !🤣😂🥲😍🥰😘👻👽🪐🛸❤️🐰🐇🌹
Absolutely phenomenal
I was at this show with the best of friends. Philly Cops were everywhere in the parking lots.
My Buddy was shut out with no ticket and left in the rain.
AWESOME SHOW.
Yeah
Fall 89’ love this tour.
I was 19 and this was my eighth Dead concert , tenth if I count 9/1&2/89 JGB with those two spectacular shows at the Merriweather Post Pavilion. We drove up from Charlotte for 10/16 ,all 3 Spectrum shows and Two Charlotte Hometown shows.. 10/16 was great , but I felt a lot more comfortable at the Spectrum , 10/19 was one of the best shows I saw and I saw Albany and Nassau '90 and the last great set of shows I saw was Greensboro '91 , and I still think 10/19 they summoned up a primal Dead X-Factor Jerry's guitar is muscular and confident and with his laid back aura .makes his wailing on guitar that much more dramatic,Like on Dear Mr. Fantasy if he didn't play it like he does it would drag but when they are on and it's a little slower they get this huge sound like a lumbering beast trodding across the musical Landscape . Listen how Dramatic the ending is in this Baby Blue where Jerry plays some exquisite guitar! Cumberland could have been Fillmore East .... Death Don't is a fine modern version
Dather
This estimated...🙌🏼
Thank you for sharing. W
Wowie thx👍👍✌☺😄😃📢
what a run of hot shows. They hit the mountain top once again. It was all downhill from here on as far as im concerned. on the bus since'73 i saw alot of GD , JGB and related shows.(some on acid and some completely straight). There was nothing like it anywhere in the universe. And there never will be
1990 and even 1991 kept up the momentum. Spring 1990 was better than this tour imo
really wish i could've been at these shows. absolutely smokin'! the drunk blues into no hangover second set. fuckin' smokin'. thank you so much for posting this. history man. thank you!
Enjoying the ride!
Bobby and Healy are giving me some sort of nitrous flashbacks with these vocals bouncing around.
This is one of my favorite songs !
Jerry bringin' an inspired Estimated jam!
I was there! Last camping shows in Philly... :(
Miss these guys so so much.
Was there....89 was tight...the Spectrum was a great music venue....Philly is nuts...if you're tough enough, this happens....
was at that show and about 40 others at the Spectrum
Epic 2nd set. Jerry playin the jimmy rigged wolf. The estimated jam.Fantasy with Brent awesome
I miss this a lot no one does it better
My Fave Channel 4 Channeling The Dead :)
A monster of a show, I wore the second set Maxell tape out by 1999
how cool is this 20 years ago this could not happen too me anyway
Help>Slip>Frank ... (especially SLIPKNOT).... played on WOLF =
F U C K YES !!!
right on mr nola!!!!!!!
The performances and setlist were pretty great here. I was watching a Roosevelt 76 show and it felt real low energy and so I looked for something else. It was this and I was not disappointed. Well, the lighting was extremely darker for The Dead for this show. I feel they were stoned out and wanted to be invisible.
Hello ...er1970 something ,oh 1976, yes hash and lsd time .... wonder why , you say low energy , you koke ... joke freak....
SO MUCH EFFIN FUN!!!!!!!
Spectrum was mad fun ... too many stories .. .. we are blessed for sure
Yep- Spectrum my first Show in "78.. blew open my Skull..
I think they did a 30 minute Playin Band thats still echoing out in space...
@@timothyryan6018 That was 11/6/79.
@@jeffadelman1536 What was 11-6-79??
@@timothyryan6018 The very long Playing in the Band.

Woooooo weeeeeee!!!
Chuck is that you what's up
Wow. I've just watched three or four AWESOME FULL GD SHOWS and just noticed that they're all posted by the SAME person. I so appreciate all of these. I am very "grateful" to you for your fine work.
Thank you VoodooNOLA2. (Who 'dat?) ;-)
God, in one of it's many forms.
Jerry and Brent. The heart and soul of The Grateful Dead.
When Brent died so did my journey with The Grateful Dead. I believe it was the beginning of the end for Jerry (mentally and physically) too! It was a loss for which there was no recovery.
Well said
Jerry's wolf guitar looks like a modified Ibanez AX120. That's cool he pulled it back out after a decade.
Would love to sit in a sound room and listen to this DMF with Stevie Winwood. Or be front row with him at THIS show
I remember people being pissed about the Victim, Built to last, Blow away in the first set. Three new tunes inna row. I love Built to last. Should a never dropped that one.
They wouldnt be pissed now if Jerry and brent were still with us
Ride,ride,ride..........
Brent brought the youth back into Jerry ! ❤️🐇🐰🌹
When Brent died Jerry kinda did too Almost happened to Townshend after Moonie died
I know I was ,I have the Crispy Up Front Master Tape of all 3 nights !! Mail order stubs too......think hard 🤔🤔🤔🤔
~~fly free Dom ~~
There's a strong possibility I was at this show.
Take some more drugs.....maybe you'll figure it out
Jerry the boys goes to Midi heaven on Estimated
thanks again
There !
Gahhhhhh, thats a hot one
Jerry came out with his hair pulled back to start 2 set. He was ready to go tear it up.
🙌
